Breaks my creative blocks. Makes me think in colors. Somehow it gives clarity to things in my head that get jumbled, as if it trivializes my confusion. It reminds me of how there is order in chaos. I love feeling in control of being out of control.
That is a great way to describe this band. I'm usually a heavy prog and metal guy, but this band always makes me smile. They are truly fun to listen to, yet there is something "progressive" in their sound. There are threads of King Crimson in their music, combined with raw punk energy.
I love Deerhoof! Seen them live so many times, always excellent! Some how I came up on an autographed Zach Hill & the Holy Smokes book signed and dedicated to Greg from ‘the hoof’. Best find ever.
+NoTolerance ForBullshit - I always thought her voice was kind of weak, but put up with it because the band is otherwise so awesome. But on La Isla Bonita her singing has improved exponentially; this portends well for future records and performances.
I like it. reminds me of Sonic Youth more than a little but better playing all around and this bass player/vocalist is something else. I'm really digging her thing. Drummer is killing it too! Always happy to find a new tea for the cup.
Cool to see Greg and Satomi switch instruments but also amazing how it immediately sounds like a completely different band without Greg's insane drumming.
this is my first time listening. I listen to all kinds of stuff, usually heavier stuff, instrumental like Pelican. This band is wildly creative and they have a great sense of time and how to make discordance really hook-laden and pleasant. Amazing. I get it man.
Zappa once said that jazz was not dead but just smells funny. From Frank that was a compliment; the funniest smelling jazz of the day was his favorite (Dolphy). Well, rock is not dead, but it smells funny. In a great way.
If you watch their rig rundown on Premier Guitar's channel he talks about it briefly. Its something he put together himself with parts from different guitars
that would be so cool. Not going to lie though, usually bands like this end up going to Haw River Ballroom or Asheville instead. But at home would be nice.
Oh man mainstream rock music is dead but the alternative underground indie scene is booming I wouldn't be surprised if we see another uprising if you like this check out these guys Jank Dads Slothrust PWR BTTM American football Modern baseball Chon Old gray Open up a whole new world my friend.
I didn't think they were miming; I'm convinced they were filmed actually playing. It just doesn't look like they're together. Like I said, interesting presentation.
They're pushing and pulling very naturally together. It would be impractical to try to get that kind of fluidity tracking separately. It looks like they're probably all in the same room with just enough space between them for 4 distinct camera framings.
what language is she singing in? I am hear to see what this band is about, they did a right rundown for Premier Guitar and that was the first video I had to turn off. sorry the music is kind of interesting and experimental but I can't understand one word of what she is singing. Do you need to be high listening to this? If that's the case then I get it. oh well, I am out of here. akk.
I think all the songs here are in English. She does do Japanese on a few songs (mostly on the Green Cosmic EP) and even Catalian on one song. Honestly, the lyrics are not great but it's just part of the mood.
Who cares if you can't understand the lyrics? I can't understand Damo Suzuki on certain Can songs, I can't understand Mark E Smith on certain Fall songs but I don't need to cause they are very expressive just like Satomi. God what a dumb fucking reason to not like a band 😒
