Ah yes, the struggle of starting a new character on DJFNY. If you’re playing on hard difficulty the curve just shoots up, especially when your character is weak and your opponents can easily beat you if you make a few mistakes.

I had a character with Kickboxing/Martial arts/wrestling. He would grapple do the kickboxing strikes and finish with a powerbomb. Instant KO.
