I saw this when it first aired, have watched it countless times since. Knew the basic talking points of this story but just now watched a Netflix doc on this case and saw one of the officers on the stand crying saying how he held Diallo’s hand and prayed he didn’t die, sure 🙄. Then had to come back and watch this yet again and that line “cops cried, say begged him to not to die” hit me for the first time. “Welcome to a land where they don’t need a reason. Welcome to a life of clipped wings. European dreams will cut your life short, put black boys become blood sport” ...I’ve always admired Ikpi’s way with words
very very good....so many of these poets just leave me inspired and fulfilled...its just beautiful how people can convey common ideas so eloquently.....Thank you for helping me....x
Fuck split second they are taught how to shoot to disarm or to cause enough injury that he would not be able to fire if he had a weapon, not only that but 41 times? 41 shots at one person is not a split second because we all know that as soon as 4 or 5 shots go off and he does not return fire A COP should realize and know to hold fire and protect themselves just in case. So don't try to defend them saying they made a split second decision.
@gatorvalle yes they have a right to protect themselves but he was no threat..only an insane man of ANY race would try anything with a cop holding a drawn gun much less four... this is one man that didnt have to die..noone is "bitching" but simply letting it be known that his tragic death was unnecessary...and that him being shot 41 times was wrong..no ones life shound end tht way wrong or right white or black
I understand what she means but New York and that bad I would know born and raised still living here I know I'm only 14 but I like to believe I'm not ignorant and that new york isn't that bad
dont pay attention to gatorvalle. hes from canada speaking on matters he doesnt know of. i remember i did a report on diallo back in 7th grade. tragedy man. 41/4 = just over 10 rounds per cop. everyone emptied the clip. acquitted of all charges. if yall only saw the door frame of that mans house afterwards...smh
i was just thinking that and im black its not fair for cops to get a bad rep for killing someone who they thought could have ended there life in the line of duty
