Just checked the site, lot of interesting options. Lot of items to protect outside of my vehicle. Cool stuff. What sucks is I feel these might be needed in the coming years.

Could you give another video down the line on the percentage of protection comparison on the TRAP, TRAP-B, ferrites and the DEFCON SPD for someone who will not get ALL of the devices, but wants to get protection as well as the best bang for the buck? Thank you!

Sure, I'll try to discuss this. I'm a big fan of distributed protection because it helps to create numerous "energy wells" that current can be drained away through.

What makes this different/better than the EMP Shield? Has the Defcon SPD gone through any third party testing? Finally, the website mentions that two defcon units are recommended for diesel engines with 2 batteries. Is this recommendation based for batteries wired in series to 24v (like a military hummer) or in parallel (like a modern diesel truck)? Why would both electrical systems need protection if they are functionally the same system?

Thank you, I have a relative who had this question. The ground point in a car is the frame and I do not think stuffing 200,000 amps at that high voltage level would turn out well. Best case scenario, your tires blow up and your car, it grounds itself, and when you get out the residual charge kills you. Worst case scenario the car just blows up and melts. Can you comment? Thanks

The DEFCON Vehicle is currently designed for 12-volts, so you'd need one for each battery.

@oldgunny5243

Something that has been brought up when talking about the EMP shield is the ground wire. Seeing as cars have a negative chassis ground, what purpose would a seperate ground offer. I've seen this topic brought up a lot on the other products out there. Thanks
@disasterprepper
@disasterprepper Год назад
It's a good question. The DEFCON has three different sets of surge protection components in it, connecting from + to -, + to GND, and - to GND. The idea for the chassis connection is to prevent a voltage differential from developing between the battery - terminal and the chassis of the vehicle. I realize, of course, that most cars already have the - terminal tied to chassis, but the surge protection path offers a second connection to help reduce that voltage differential that might be induced. Home surge protection devices do the same thing with neutral and ground.
@JakesMusicPalace
@JakesMusicPalace Год назад
If your car or truck has steel belted radial tires, you already have a ground plane through induction. This is why u are not safe in your vehicle with close proximity lightning strike. I think more of the problem is in the induction of high frequency low energy EMP through the various coils that are in the electronic ignitions and main and sub computers that run the vehicle. The best solution is very expensive, research Faraday cages for more info👍

It's just a way to further buy down risk. If budget allows, I recommend it. If not, the TRAP + ferrites are a very effective transient suppression system.

Can you advise if this will work on an electric vehicle. If so, since there are two different battery sources, how would you connect it and would you need two of them? One is obviously the 12 V for accessories and small electronics and then you have the very large very powerful battery which I don’t know if you can do anything with that.

I bought the TRAP bundle for my gasoline vehicle and the TRAP-B connector eyelets are to small to connect to my battery terminal hardware. Will this be the same case with this new DEFCON product? How can I resolve this issue to use my current TRAP-B product? I am leary of just using standard auto wiring connectors as most are flimsy and may not handle the EMP power induction.

Aircraft are heavily shielded, although I don’t know if they would survive an EMP.
@disasterprepper
@disasterprepper Год назад
Aircraft have surge protection systems in them, thank goodness. Mostly, they are to protect from lightning strikes. Also, large aircraft are often quad-redundant, meaning that they can lose multiple strings and still fly. Vehicles are generally single failure on everything.
