In case anyone is wondering why this song has such an intriguing title, the entirety of The Sanguinary Impetus is about specific examples of the brutality of nature on a song-by-song basis. "Arboreously Transfixed" has a meaning essentially akin to "pierced to a tree." The liner notes of the album not only contain lyrics but also the species/family of organism whose method of brutality is being discussed in the lyrics. This track is about shrikes, which are part of family Laniidae. They are a widespread group of carnivorous predatory birds that actually impale their prey (typically insects) on any available sharp object or natural growth within their habitat. BRUTAL.
