@Nic777 thats a good point, i would say presumtion of innocence, i know we are talking about a game lol but i give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Besides i, myself and with good f mental state, already had defeated a ~4 larger army (one invaded together with other He possible cheated, possible not
Another neat trick is to have heavy elephants at the gate. The AI loves to clump their army and charge right through the gate. Normally without stakes you'll have a huge problem, but the elephants did huge aoe damage since all those units were overlapping each other. If the elephants ran amuck, no big deal since they were slaughtering that blob of units stuck at the gate.
Same trick works on in siege defence put stakes at entrance to gate and let the enemy brake the gate all of their horses die and then just pick off the leftovers that’s how I break the mongols entire armies with a few good archers
@@s55558 thank you very much for that tip, what would you suggest for open field combat. The mongol heavy horse is kind of annoying in the open. I’ve been using the Genoese and have been relying on their pavise crossbow men and familia ducale. The AI is extremely OP with the mongols.
@@danielnaranjo7038 Bastante dificil usar otros facciones. Yo uso la faccion de Genoa y aun usando arqueros de pavise y caballeros Ducale los Mongolios me destruyen.
i love bridge battles, on barbarian invasion for Rome total war i usually have a few units holding a bit behind the bridge so the enemy can get across then flank them with cav, usually the enemy army quickly shatters
I defeated an army of 1100 with 173 troops. I was at the top of a hill and had mostly cav and they had mostly infantry. I just kept charging and routed them.
Honestly a great method. When I had no choice but to fight I would rather lose honorably than to let the AI handle it. In those moments, I improvised and honestly, charging and rerouting works great. When I was a rookie I managed to defeat 3000 something orcs with only 300 something Calvary. Although they were a huge army they slow as hell going through the city. I would literally just keep charging and re routing. I also like to bait the armies before they even reach my walls during siege events. Just pick one side or even two, and have like 2 or 3 units and have one bait the enemy . The enemy will chase after them and afterwards you can ambush them from the side and behind. Love Calvary. They literally have saved me from countless invasions. Shout out to the art of war.
@@derkylos I once commanded my cavalry to charge the routed enemy to capture them. They attacked from behind of my own stakes and more than half died on them.
I once had a small force of archers and spikemen forced to figth a much larger force so I was about to give them a last stand but found a bridge on the map and managed to win the battle by keeping them trapped on the bridge and slowly drained their force with arrows
On small units scale the ribault is far stronger than on ultra, since it's still 2 cannons but infantry is about four time smaller. There's not much strategy in just pointing an oversized weapon in the general direction of a bridge and just maul everything. Also I don't think you really manoeuvred your general as well as you could have had.
All depends on strategy. I've protected a lot of cities by using only crossbow, Lances and one heavy Calvary. It is easy but you have to put them or right places
I am a little concerned when I see mods and half enemy Army not rushing the bridge, But really just want to say that if you position your archers to the left side or the enemy's right, you're not shooting at their Shield arms but hitting them in the right side.
Great use of the organ guns. This is why every TW game should take place in an age where gun powder exists. Any one that doesn't just doesn't feel like a real TW game (sorry Rome)
I might have like 8,000 hours in the Early era campaign, probably less than 10 hours in the late era, mainly because I dislike gunpowder units. That's still a fairly rapid expansion, for turn 64. Can't even remember if Lithuania turns catholic and gets crusades in the late era. I'm one of the more aggressive rapid expansionists you'll ever find, even had a world record back in the day. If you pull off an expansion that rapid in the early era with lithuania I think you'd need to do some serious cheese with the AI, taking advantage of some unrealistic behavior. Still possible to do without the console, but it's all quite tedious. In any case, usually when I see people post about the game I am in awe of how little of the campaign map they own on a given turn or date, wondering how they don't die from boredom from all the sitting around involved. Congrats on impressing me, I think I've seen maybe two people ever actually move across the map faster than me, and one's a famous youtuber. I know gunpowder units make walls a joke, but so does a lot of stuff, spies for example, or luring out the garrison. Even factoring that in, that's swift.
I remember my great victory in rome 1 I've have 300 heavy cavalry and 300 mercenary hoplites and i defeated rome with 6000 forces 3000 cavalry and footmen soldiers hahaha in an open area battle after that my remaining cavalry became a great general
spent years playing this, can't count the number of times I lost my general on my own steaks when I wasn't concentrating 🤣 and yeah that ribault's morale debuff needs nerfing soooo bad 😂
In the times of Rome I used to be able to easily beat 1000 men with just 300 cavalry. But in medieval, where everyone is basically a walking metal, I have been having a hard time doing that
Dude, riabults are a OP WEAPON very OP like dude when mongols arive, you know you can recriut ribaults beacause gunpowder hs ben discoverd but ribaults vs they cav is a win, plud i didn't had to watch the vid i know the strategy. On my main army with i used to kill Sicily cause i have ben at war with them for over 80 turns (i just left them to atttack as i had wars with evribody. I am the Heratic Roman Empire, i am excomunicated, i am at war with not only pagans but all the kingdoms that think they can defeat me (Poland i mean i killed them nearelly. They are just TRAITORS! I have ben a noble ally to them for over 100 turns!)) Now i have to face the mongols and i can crush they armies with my German Knights (mercenary) and my merc knights (not german) and the ribaults.
With this defence the AI would go for it anyway. The ribault has a morale shock bonus higher than hand gunners or arquebuziers and can cause a massive rout on enemy units if they are too close and after taking many casualties
