Defender of the Crown 1987 DOS Game Hidden Gem Lets Play 01 

I remember the Amiga days, there I played Defender of the Crown. I most often played as Wolfric because he was "Strong" in jousting. I figured out how to win the jousting duels: As you ride toward the opponent, your lance wobbles up and down, and you must make mouse movements to counter the wobble. The "Black X" is the tip of your opponent's lance, yes you have to aim where it is. Thus a brilliant start is if one of the others holds a tournament in the first turn, as it allows for a gain of up to 3 extra territories through jousting for land. (Often from the Normans, as the Normans "move" before the Saxons.) And you usually get to keep those won territories (As they prefer to conquer the uncontrolled land first.) An important thing to know is that the uncontrolled land gives you vassals (Extra soldiers), thus going for uncontrolled land is a way to get many soldiers early. A little detail is to have only one soldier in the campaign army when conquering uncontrolled land (You always win the territory, but the more soldiers you send in, the more soldiers you lose in the conquest!) Something only a few know, as only a few have ever done it, is winning a tournament through all 3 rounds jousting for fame, and winning causes your "Leadership" stat goes up by one.

I put in a lot of hours on that game :) I liked using Geoffrey Longsword, because well... 😅

Played this on the C64. My fav game at the time. Always played Ivanhoe. On the C64 he was Good-Good-Good

I always played the CGA DOS version as Geoffrey Longsword not for raiding for gold but saving Saxon maidens. If you're successful you gain your allies lands which can come in clutch at times.

Not only DOC was not a hidden gem, it was one of the most famous and widely published game of its time.
