I was inactive and hostile to the church for a decade. Now I am back and it has been the best experience on multiple levels. God really has blessed me with wonderful opportunities and testimonies, and having been anti mormon/anti Christian, I understand their point of view and while understandable to a degree, I will never go back to such a sad point in my life. I understand peoples criticisms of people in the church and aspects of the culture, but its not about that. Its about your relationship with the Father, and how you progress in becoming closer to Christ, and being like Christ in every way you can, and uplifting those around you to the best of your ability. God is great, and Jesus loves you just as much as he loves me, regardless of your background, regardless if you dont believe, and regardless if you left the church.

I am reminded of a quote by Teddy Roosevelt that applies to this criticizing our leaders who've lived a long time ago, and we think we would have done differently. "It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat. " To think we would do it better with their society's tolerances and experiences and pressures is hubris. Great discussion, guys.

Far too many members base their testimony on the church organization and the people, not the Gospel. I believe in the doctrine. It is perfect...the people are not. Everyone member I know could be awful and our leaders could make mistakes and it won't affect my testimony.

@@Themanyfacesofego bro, even if he does leave, it doesnt mean the church is false. The church isn't true by how many members it has. The church is true because of the correct priesthood authority that was given. Christ knows it is true, and no matter who leave or who says what, Christ knows it.

Love this…. Love Ward radio…. And yep… I’m a boomer 😉 Found Cardon’s channel as Midnight Mormons and actually think the name totally fit their group. The only downside is I hesitated to jump on as I wasn’t sure if it was anti…. With Mormon in the name. Five years ago…. I wouldn’t have questioned that … and now I’m just so grateful I found both of your channels. Thank you SO much for what you guys do… day in and day out … despite the vehement opposition you face as you do it.

That doesn't make any sense. I'm sorry. Lots of ppl in the church, myself included, still say Mormon. In fact ALL members still say Mormon at least occasionally.

@@danascully7358 I never do. I will say the entire name out. The only time I use "mormon" is with quotation marks or Anti-Mormons. They want to go by Anti-Mormons so I will call them than. I also use it when talking about the prophet Mormon. But I never refer to the church or its members as "mormons"

@@lukev483 Honestly in a sense yes. It is Christs church and is offensive to call us after a prophet and not Christ. You realize how many people truly believe that we do not worship Christ? By using Christ in our name (as the full name has been, we have never officially been named "mormons") Then maybe more people will take us more seriously.

Wherever you found thus boastful quote… I trust that Joseph Smith had a profoundly strong relationship with our Savior… as He entrusted the restoration of His gospel to Joseph.

Love the camera quality of this show - very sharp! Interview was great too. Especially loved the part about how too many refuse to take Moroni’s promise (or God’s promise) to study it out and pray about it, because they are too afraid to commit to action. We all have pre-conceptions and “when we are learned we think we are wise”. But what if there is more we can learn? What if there is truth out there - wouldn’t we want to know that truth? Of course! BUT - if learning that truth means change…then unless you’re willing to change, you’ll ignore truth even when it’s staring you in the face.

The not rushing the decision is so eerily accurate to what I’ve experienced. One of my childhood friends left the church. The first time I was able to talk to him about it he asked me if I was going to leave the church too. I was deployed in Africa at the time. I knew he was kinda asking as a joke but I knew he was serious too. How is anyone supposed to reasonably expect that after one conversation that I would abandon something I have been participating my whole life? Wrong or right most people don’t just change their beliefs in a heartbeat. It’s the same problem when it comes to “social justice” and all the other political/social movements. Even if I did support things like LGBT, which I don’t, why should I expect our acceptance of it as a cultural change overnight? Change takes time. There will be growing pains. Anytime I see anyone who rushes change all I see is red flags. Great discussion. Wish I could chat with you guys.

Also, Cardon - you've alluded to your own illness and your child's over the last couple of years, perhaps could you do a video talking about your illness and how you've overcome it.. @@ChrisNevaMiss17 Protestants removed the Apocrypha because Martin Luther lost a debate with a Catholic who used Macabees as a prooftext for Purgatory, as Judas Macabeus did ordinances for the dead proving there must be a space between death and the final judgement. Martin Luther didn't remove these but called the Epistle of James an "epistle of straw" and the Sermon on the Mount a "masterpiece of the devil" because they preach of works, contrary to Faith Alone.

It’s been my experience as well that when I read more I end up back where I started. So many, close to 100% of the anti claims feel so insurmountable at the start…and by the end of searching earnestly I find they are so easily dismantled I am disappointed in myself for ever doubting in the first place

This was so good. I found the midnight mormons a few months ago, and I cant even begin to say how much I respect them. There's that verse about "...he shall have no power over the hearts of the children of men..." in reference to Zion. And along with others that have mentioned it in these comments, I am also praying for all of the midnight mormons and anyone associated with them. And I believe that comedy has a secret magic, like Aslan's Deeper Magic, that helps people heal. Thank you for this video. It was excellent!

So I am one of those that went inactive over social reasons. It was more serious than just a bad bishop. Anyway I have a friend that has recently left the Church to a nondomination Christian church. Really feels like she just got sucked up into it. Now she is like only the Bible is scripture and only the interpretation of the pastor is acceptable. Good thing about it though was she started trying to rope me into it. I have no doubts about the Church and so I have been countering the arguments her pastor has been giving her. It has gotten me back into really diving into the scriptures again which has been great. Still sad about my friend because you are right this pastor really wants her to go fast through things and doesn't want her to really think about things. Edit: for those wondering I go to church when I'm not in my ward. There were accusations that led to criminal investigation of me and the ward has never believed the conclusion of that investigation. Yes plan on moving once my wife is done taking care of her mother who won't move

​@@davidjanbaz7728That is a very literal taking. Truth is given to each as they are ready to receive it. As God is a God of Truth so is His Church. Anyone who honestly seeks the Truth of God will find it and be instructed in that Truth to the limit they are prepared for it. If you seek the Truth of God then I would say you are part of the Church of the Lamb. If you desire power, wealth, prestige, and to put yourself above your fellow man instead of humbling yourself before God then I would say you have fallen into that pit that was prepared by the devil and it doesn't matter if you are LDS or any other faith. Followers of Christ will hear Truth and rejoice for all Truth comes from God. Seek out the Truth and promise to follow it wherever it leads you and you will find yourself in the Church of the Lamb of God. LDS members are always being further instructed in the Truth and there is always more to learn and that learning can come from Atheist, Muslims, Buddhist, Catholics, Protestants, or anyone or anything if you are open to the Holy Ghost and are listening.

Wow! I just felt the Spirit when you asked that question about relationship with our Savior. I love that you asked that. I know that this is a question our Bishopric has encouraged us to ponder on, and bear witness of in our fast and testimony meetings. It is the one thing that brings it all back to what is most important; our relationship with HIM.

None of us will ever, ever be perfect in this life. It doesn’t matter how hard we try. And it’s absolutely ridiculous to me that some members of the Church believe it’s possible to get to that level in this life. They also believe we must all be at that level for Christ to come back. If that is the case, well then, we are all doomed. We just need to keep repenting when we do mess up. That’s why our Savior, Jesus Christ suffered, bled, and died for all men (and women 🥰).

I’m an exmo who is still very conservative. Not everyone who leaves is woke. I’m interested in hearing all of his evidence. He kept saying he had all this evidence but never actually shared it. To me it seems like he has heard of what the ex mos say, but hasn’t actually in depth studied it.

@@KrystalessRThe church and Christ don’t hold you to an unrealistic standard. Some members do and our inability to stand alone and follow Christ as our conscience dictates and Joseph Smith taught. Many members are to busy trying to look perfect. I would add that those members are still in the infancy of their testimony and journey. Your relationship was supposed to be with Christ it was NEVER between you and them.

Y’all should create an app similar to Living Scriptures but have member podcasts like this on it! I’ve been a subscriber to DailyWire and Blazetv for years and I now listen to podcasts anytime I’m in the car, cooking dinner, cleaning house, etc. It would be fantastic to have these types of podcasts to listen too daily outside of RU-vid

I love and use his definition of morality. Morality never changes. Laws change, and social mores change, but the moral law exists and we, humans, seek to discover it through religious philosophy.

This was so good! I've seen many leave the church based on things others have said, and haven't taken the time to read and experience more for themselves. Certainly this isn't the case for all, but we need to do our part and put effort into our search for finding truth.

Loved this Episide and love these Brethren for being a Light on ttop of a Hill to all those that are seeking the truth of the Restored Church that has returned, as stated, in the Latter-days. I think the evidemce, even by Common Law Rules, clearly outweigh the facts in favour of the Christ being the true Church as deduced from the Bible. However, as is stated here, ultimately it is James 1:5, Ask God Yourself.; John 14:26 the Holy Ghost will teach you all truth, and Galatians 5:22-23 the Feelings of the Holy Ghost are distinctive. It typically takes around 8 years for someone to leave the church once they lose their faith. Most that leave wanted the church to be true.

I think we can go overkill on doctrine, but also remember good services. Other churches provides more or less the same services that the LDS church, they provide rooms for children, teenagers and young adults, they have tons of access events and activities and a pastor that is on stand by if you need to set up an appointment. They have happy and waiting greeters at the front door. Remember that NEXT time people are thinking of leaving.

They don't have the priesthood or temples that are required for us to enter into the presence of God and become like him. The gospel is more than church activities.

We don't live in a culture of authenticity. Most ppl are constantly lying to themselves because the truth is painful. We live in a culture of lying to ourselves and saying we are being honest. "My truth" isn't authenticity. That is being too insecure to face the truth so you say "There are lots of truths!" or "My truth is correct because I feel it."

Here's what I say about "overwheling evidence". Question: Before the discovery of bacteria, how were bodily injury/wounds addressed? No one knows this btw. But for centuries the wound was packed with dirt. Is that the overwhelming evidence we're talking about?

Regarding clarity in language, I lookup up debunk and found the following: BUNK: "nonsense," 1900, short for bunkum, phonetic spelling of Buncombe, a county in North Carolina. The usual story (attested by 1841) of its origin is this: At the close of the protracted Missouri statehood debates in the U.S. Congress, supposedly on Feb. 25, 1820, North Carolina Rep. Felix Walker (1753-1828) began what promised to be a "long, dull, irrelevant speech," and he resisted calls to cut it short by saying he was bound to say something that could appear in the newspapers in the home district and prove he was on the job. "I shall not be speaking to the House," he confessed, "but to Buncombe." Thus Bunkum has been American English slang for "nonsense" since 1841 (it is attested from 1838 as generic for "a U.S. Representative's home district"). It is tempting to get out there and say something when emotions are high, i.e. produce "buncombe", "bunkum", "bunk".

@@shadowbannedforspeakingtru1436 Early in the discussion Cardon make the point that the drift of language can be problematic. Originally bunk did not simply mean false. It was similar to what we now call a "dog whistle", language which purports to be on topic but is really a signal to a specific tribe. (Oh, there is also, the problem of unnecessarily hyperbolic language.)

Ask God with a sincere heart and He WILL tell you. All doubt flees and it matters not what anybody says! But these people want to go out and experience the world without consequence, if so fine go and do it. Don't waste time online arguing about whats right and trying to justify it, go and experience it for yourself and you will know whats right for you! The church is the right place for so many people although you may think its not right. Your right I got my answer when I said to God I will be baptised if I know Joseph was a prophet and what he brought to light was true and of you! The greatest manisfestion of love is to forgive people of their sins against you, Christ not only forgives our sins and those who killed Him, but wants to suffer for OUR sins thats a next level above that again, and we are not even capable of doing it! That's a bar I will never reach in this world, its the greatest manifestation of love that you will ever come across ever, you cannot rise above that.

Don’t fall for this bravado - he’s addressing issues with certainty - without someone to dig in for clarification. I promise, if you want to discuss faith, I won’t tell anyone or get you in trouble with the church.

Took me 10 years to leave the church with a copious amount of research. I wish I could have a conversation with this guy. He acts as if there isn't a valid reason to leave the LDS church. It's like me saying you haven't left yet...hmm, you just need to think more. He strawmans Joseph Smith's character instead of talking about Joseph Smith (who is 2nd unto Christ in his righteousness 😊) reprehensible behavior. He then says he doesn't want to get political and then gets political.

I’m Lds member but come on , the best country in the world 😅, the US citizens need to calm down even the first members of the church were trying to leave the country, you guys have to be humble in the way you think about yourself . Moses did not save the "Jews" they were the Hebrews.... the word Jew does not appear until 2nd Kings when they return from captivity with the Babylonian talmund and donates an area in Judea... they were invited to Alexandria to write the Bible as we know it which is why even the old testament was written in Greek and incorporated stories which were well known at the time including Noah and the Egyptian story of Mesies who as a baby was found in the reeds in a basket and raised as an Egyptian prince... I could go on but its mostly a book of legends and myths with a vengeful god who demands blood and sacrafice, I could go on but the whole thing blows up in the New Testament when Jesus points out their Talmunic teachings and they wind up killing him and framing the Romans...

The name Moses is mentioned in ancient Egyptian literature. Third-century BCE Egyptian historian Manetho wrote, according to Josephus, of a treasonous ancient Egyptian priest, Osarseph, who renamed himself Moses and led a successful coup against the presiding pharaoh, subsequently ruling Egypt for years until the pharaoh regained power and expelled Osarseph and his supporters.... recommend the book "did moses exist" for extensive historical scholarship in this area

I've tried so hard to like Ward Radio (including Midnight Mormons), but have always found their approach too irreverent & bombastic to invite any kind of spiritual insight or presence. I can hardly get through an episode. This interview was surprisingly pleasant and I gained more understanding and empathy for Cardon. If this Cardon were the Cardon of Ward Radio, I could almost become a regular viewer. I do hear and see a lot of contentious language and behavior on Ward Radio. My suggestion for a solution (so that I don't criticize Cardon without a solution) is to increase the non-harmful comedy and to reduce the ranting and ad hominem that characterizes and defines the podcast.
