My first thought exactly. Many of the videos are just labeled ’opening statements’ which only feature the prosecution’s statements. It may be an artifact of the algorithm, and the total views. Or it’s intentional, either by RU-vid, or by Mass Media companies working together. The only way to get informed now is to do a lot of work. Common sense is to not make a rush judgment call on a small clip of a video but to see the whole video, see and hear all evidence, from the autopsy, witnesses and everything else. To look at all of it with no bias or prejudice and try to take emotion out of it and if the evidence shows he's innocent he's innocent and if it shows he's guilty he's guilty.

@@ellamitchell1270 The defense is arguing that George Floyd swallowed a bunch of illegal drugs (a crime) just before he was arrested, and that it was this methamphetamine/fentanyl combination that killed him. Also that the medical examiner found zero evidence of bruising, fracture, or suffocation of Floyd's neck, and zero evidence of asphyxiation. What he did find, in Floyd's blood, was lots of methamphetamine and fentanyl. If they can prove this in court, Chauvin may be acquitted. You and I are not jurors, so it doesn't matter what we forget. The medical examiner also follows that finding by saying due to police restraint and neck compression. Not everyone one who endures neck compression has damage or bruising. His fellow officer told him he had no pulse(truth), wait until you hear his response. Firstly, there’s a difference in what George floyd meant by “I can’t breathe”. For example if you see someone get choked out in mma, it’s because their breathing is restricted. However, another example is an anxiety attack, where someone’s heart rate and breathing rate increases. The second example can be applied to George’s case as he said he wasn’t able to breathe before he was on the floor and passed out within 5 minutes of the knee on neck. If you get choked out, it takes 10-15 seconds. Also his trachea was not damaged in the autopsy.

As someone who majored in Criminal Justice, this was a really good opening defense speech. It is troubling that he could get off with manslaughter, but I still don't think he'll be aquitted. However, in my personal opinion, the defense can only go so far. It doesn't matter if the victim did drugs or was committing a minor offense, I believe the length of deadly force was inexcusable. When he was on the ground saying he couldn't breathe, the officers could have changed tactics and positions of hold. They didn't. He caused a scene by not listening to the man pleading for air. He disregarded the citizens in front of him, to just move his knee on his neck. He had other choices. And that is where he will be found guilty.

He could have changed his position, moving his left knee off of his neck, but he didn't. He was clinically dead before the ambulance arrived, and he had stopped resisting long before. That is where the officer will be convicted. It doesn't matter the amount of drugs in his system. I agree. I'm a current LE and "knee on neck, knee on deck" was taught in my academy as a control tactic to get someone handcuffed. I still use it today with combative people, and will continue to use it. I hate to backbench but I do question the decision to perform knee on neck/knee on deck on a handcuffed guy for over 9 minutes. Looks like Floyd is still fighting with 4 cops on him so control tactics are still needed. I once sat a guy bigger than Floyd against a wall and stood on his crossed feet to keep him from fighting or trying to rise. Virtually inescapable if the person is handcuffed. What surprised me about the defense's opening statement was that the lawyer did not mention that in the bodycam video you can hear G. Floyd say he couldn't breathe when he was first placed in the police car. He was laying across the back seat and no one was applying any force on him at that time. It looked like he may have been having a heart attack before they even brought him to the police car. Important piece of evidence left out? Sloppy lawyering...

And so he needed medical care right away?
@TubeRJF
@TubeRJF 3 года назад
@@missemlyn5774 - Most likely, Yes. Cops aren't medical experts though. It takes them a little longer than a trained medical provider to recognize acute symptoms. Unless I'm mistaken, I think they called for an ambulance 1 minute after he passed out? Suspects being taken into custody say all kinds of things. Suspects visibly under the influence of drugs say even more wild things. Over the years I think police begin to tune out a suspects' complaints. They get numb to it because in most cases it's nothing. Suspect just trying to delay being taken in. Unless it's glaringly obvious there's a serious medical problem, yes, tragically police might be slower to respond. If I was a cop on the scene that day and heard him saying he couldn't breathe while no one was on him, I would have found it odd and maybe looked him over to see what he was going on about. Would I have stood by like Tao when his motionless body was being kneeled on? Absolutely not! I like to think I would say, "Hey, quit kneeling on him, he's not moving".

It is blatantly obvious that the excuses for the officers to say they felt under threat from the crowd, exactly what threat did the crowd do? They were only concerned of George Floyd's health as he was cuffed and down with knee pressure to his neck and Floyd was struggling for his life and instead of the officer easing the knee pressure he increases the pressure purposely and doesn't let up even when the ambulance arrive. I think the trial is just a legal formality from here as the world is watching and everyone knows that Chauvin is guilty. When a man who is down and defenceless and says he can't breathe he didn't let up. So wearing a badge is an excuse for murder? It was intentional to not listen to Floyd's cries that he can't breathe. They had a choice and they chose to make him not breathe which kills someone. It's plain and simple. It's not even about if George Floyd took drugs or his crime, it's a trial on the officer. What do they want? To lock up Floyd after his death? In this trial we will see the lame attempts and rhetoric of the defendants. A drug offence and counterfeit money should not be so drastic to kill someone over it. How do we know that he purposely used a counterfeit note? Maybe he didn't know and that's why he refused to pay again. Maybe it was on purpose but it shouldn't mean that he should be killed. If someone has a drug habit and if he purposely used counterfeit bills then he requires rehabilitation and therapy and appropriate medication, not death. Where is the common sense in this world 🙏🏼

After first watching the news about the death of Mr. George Floyd, last year. A natural-born U.S citizen, who was deliberately prejudged by the then arresting "Officers of the City of Minneapolis, from the State of Minnesota. Those then "Officers," who immediately felt, that he wasn't due any process, under the law, and instantly applying their own form of capital judgment. A native-born US citizen, whose constitutional rights of due-process, (under the law) were blatantly violated by those arresting "Officers" (on the soil of "The Republic of the United States of America.") I immediately reflected back on the training which I had received regarding, 'torture," and the prevention of "torture," while serving at the U.S military. If the amount of physical pain, the psychological effects, the public humiliation etc, that those then arresting "Officers" of the City of Minneapolis, Minnesota, had wilfully inflicted on the physical body, and on the mind of another human-being, another US citizen (the departed, Mr. George Floyd,) don't amount to the meaning of the word "torture," what is the meaning of the word "torture?" Throughout that ordeal, the then "Officer," Chauvin displayed his feeling of self-gratificatio, while applying intense pressure on the cateroid-artery of an already handcuffed, and motionless human being, while suffocating him to death. By international law, and the law of the United States of America; hasn't the then "Officer," Derek Chauvin actually committed a "crime against nature," by torturing another human-being to death, in the name of the citizens of the City of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The people who he had sworn, or affirmed to "protect and serve!"

Also, I agree with this take. The prosecution has made a complete fucking mess of things so far. Several of their witnesses have testified that GF was high, that the officers must have been professional to do their job while being shouted at by a crowd, gotten their own personal details wrong, admitted that it's not possible to talk while being choked out despite previously claiming GF was being choked out, etc. Nelson must be laughing himself to sleep at the minute, although there's still a lot more to come for both sides.
@RenegadeShepTheSpacer
@RenegadeShepTheSpacer 3 года назад
@Phil Thomas I think you'll agree with me on this - in my opinion, the big problem with saying that Chauvin should walk is that the mob has already deemed him guilty, so it's a risk to say that in earshot of these maniacs. That is why there are barricades surrounding the courthouse, why the National Guard is already on alert and why so many people are stating that there shouldn't be a trial - they're looking for a witch to burn. It's frightening to watch the mob mentality on social media regarding this case. On top of that, there seems to be extreme bias on the part of the media itself. It's even scarier to see people remark that the prosecution is winning because a few people have cried in court. It isn't. Nelson is winning. And that people don't understand this concerns me because it will give them even more of a shock if Chauvin walks and amplify the probable riots.

@@Jebe_Noyon It is very, very unfortunate that a lot of Asian hate crimes have occurred. May I remind you that this is the Derek Chauvin case, not the George Floyd case. What Floyd did I'm not justifying, he did crimes and paid the time, I'm not here to glorify him, HOWEVER, this event illustrates excessive use of force. I presume you have been listening to both sides, and although I do understand the case the defense is trying to sell, many professionals have come foward. Such professionals have sided with prosecution's claims for the most part. Given that, I'd argue that Chauvin's use of excessive violence caused Floyd's death. Might I add that your mocking of George Floyd is rather distasteful. Basic respect is not hard. Also fighting hate with hate does not work.
