Defense mechanims are unconscious reflexes that we use in order to avoid anxiety or uncomfortable feelings. We do them all the time, not just in gaming but in life.
I belive that more often than not not, we have them manifest because we don't understand the situation in front of us.
In this video, I want talk about 2 in particuar, with the hopes that we all learn to recognize these types of situations earlier, saving us the need to use our defense mechanisms, or the need to be anxious in the first place.
Enjoy!

ty for this video. back then i wasnt aware for having such tendencies but in retrospect- when playing smash with friends- ive always seemed to lose despite dedicating a couple of hours into the game and make up excuses such as “youre not even good youre just spamming smash attacks.” the ego did not let me realize that it was my shortcomings that lead me to my loss, when i thought of this i needed to correct my mindset. now i think that every loss is a stepping stone of learning and improving and its best for me to utilize losses by learning of what went wrong instead of getting tunnel visioned to success alone.

Don't I love reading this!! Thank you man! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's really common in a lot of communities. I've seen it in the US, and my friend told me it happens a lot in Spain. People don't know how to cope with them losing. I just wanted to do something entretaining, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Not so sure about the retirement thing, but there is a strange sensation i get whenever i play with casuals and they finally take a game off of me. Ive kind of just learned to let them pop off because of course they do deserve their win, and theres no good excuse for me losing to them so making up shit to try to seem cool still does nothing. But then, if they decide to take their w and leave, and Im left alone still wanting to play, that is what bothers me. Im not sure why.

I've definetly been there. If you think about it, that is another defense mechanisms. They are straight up scared of you proving them it was a fluke, that they would lose 19 out 20 times. Thank you for watching the video, and your comment mate!

I absolutely agree with you and its interesting this mechanism people apply for one reason or another; at the end of the day what truly matters is not their behavior, but your goal as a fact of your efforts. Keep the good vids Giorgio!

I've for sure noticed this all over the place, even fans of certain players will proactively defend their fav smasher with excuses. I've noticed it in a scramble situation goes against me mostly due to luck, I'll hyper focus on that, meanwhile the opponent is taking full advantage of winning neutral. Gotta keep your mind on the current moment

What a proper way to geek ngl lol nah pero en serio me parece muy cool que cubras estos aspectos mentales en los videojuegos y en los fighting games specifically. No había visto que esas críticas a los juegos siendo una mierda pueden ser un mecanismo de defensa. Really insightful bro, keep it up. FGaming Properly con el Giorgio.

I have spent a long long time playing competitive melee and a few months ago the idea of retirement popped up in my head along with me getting older. Behind it all was frustration over stagnation, the wish to be seen and supported when I try so hard, especially by my community and friends. I was so frustrated and losing the fun in my game despite being so insanely motivated.. Well, likely even BECAUSE of it. That intense love and motivation, stressed to the breaking point by feeling stuck socially and competitively.. Despite probably having my best years by far. It's still tough though, which is my sensitive state of mind and wavering energy levels. I really hope to do well to match my ambition but also LET myself have a breakthrough. Mentality is weird.

@geekingproperly1288 3 месяца назад
Dude, thank you for the time to comment this. Mentality IS weird, but I think it gets weirder if we don't talk about it. That's actually the point of the video. It's about recognizing these feelings and do better. Talking about it absolutly helps, so I appreciate this one. I'm glad you are having your best years, hope you keep growing!
