Sir, As a full time police officer, a glock armorer, and a person who has a lot of range time, not only with handguns, but with combat and sport shotguns, you are using the Clipdraw exactly the way it was designed to be used... a "citizen carry", no round in the chamber or in battery... I have clipdraws on every handgun I own. Including some, but not all of my weapons. Walther PPK .380, Walther PPQ M2 9mm, Glock 21, Glock23, Taurus Public Defender, S&W hammerless .38, Glock 43, Glock 42, Ruger SR22. The comments that are made about you not charging your weapon before placing it in your waist band, are comments that are made by what are most likely persons who don't like the clipdraw recommendations or they don't have that much range time or know handguns as intimately as you. I am an avid supporter of the clipdraw system and realize like you, that it is not for everyone who legally carry a firearm off duty. I was impressed with not only your technique with your glock and clipdraw, on unholstering charging your weapon, but also observed your excellent low ready, scan and re holster drills were spot on...Keep up the great work. Nicely done and be safe. Peter

Peter Ranc why do people look around after they get done shooting, personally I think it looks stupid and has no reasoning behind it. Would rather ask you then anyone else

Do people really hate on people who don't carry with a round in the chamber? Like its a personal choice. Accidental discharges happen all the time, and it is much easier to rack a slide still than to disengage a safety.
@guitaoist

who would want no round in the chamber in a time when seconds and reflexes count?
@jpbernie72
@jpbernie72 6 лет назад
Director Meade It is most definitely not faster to chamber a round than to disengage a safety. That’s not even debatable. But empirical evidence/statistics show us you are correct, accidental discharges do happen and safety is paramount.

Just added clipdraw to my G30. I love it. It sits against my body snugly and has no printing. I even used it with basketball shorts. I only had to tie the draw strings right to keep the G30 from sagging down. Overall I love clipdraw. PS if you are safe with drawing your firearm you will not likely have accidental discharge.

I've been running the clipdraw for about 4 years now with one in the chamber and i've never had any problems or even felt like the gun could go off in a certain situation. I also have a very rigid belt which covers the trigger perfectly, its the best way to carry in my opinion. I even appendix carry it at times and feel totally comfortable with it!

Still carry my G23 with this CLIPDRAW. Carried this way for years. Still no problems. Yep, still haven't shot myself or anyone else. Still on, still strong and still safe. Carry hot at all times. Nothing has, will or can get between myself and my trigger even if I try. Trigger is fully covered and protected by my LEATHER belt. What is this I say? Yep, you heard me right. Leather makes a great barrier for a trigger on a pistol. Imagine that! What? Some people just don't do holsters. It's closest to the body, it's tight and it's right. Deepest concealment available today. My 23 stays canted and in place ALL day long. It NEVER moves. I can not go back to a holster, period! Now, a few of my friends can't carry any other way also. After carrying for a couple months, I noticed my brother was no longer carrying, said he just got tired of the holster system. I turned him on to CLIPDRAW, guess what? I think you know. I hear so many negatives about this system. It's obvious they have never used it. Mainly hear, "The trigger isn't covered, it's not safe", while seeing the way it's to be used is a belt system, covered by thick leather, you know, like a holster. Makes me think a lot of people were never introduced to Legos as children. Just sayin'

Is your belt 6” wide? If not, it is absolutely NOT covering the trigger. And the belt also does not protect the trigger from excess fabric, shirt, the waistband of your pants, etc from getting inside the trigger, especially when holstering and unholstering.
@KingTesticus

I keep trying to like this thing. One downside I can add is while this is installed on your weapon, it will not fit in any holster, it becomes dedicated as this. It doesn't lend itself to changing your mind. You're locked in. And although it isn't difficult to put on or take off, it does require several picky steps. I love the reduced bulk. I love that I can carry a full-frame (with a muzzle comp) and it fits great. I am not fond of carrying in condition 3. Anyway, a little late to the comments party, still a great review of this love-it-hate-it product. 👍

I use the Aegis Armory "Guardian" Trigger Guard with ClipDraw on my Glock 27 so I don't have to go through all that especially in a surprise defensive situation. I don't even tether it to my belt or belt loops since it is more awkward and I need more force to get it off of when I draw the gun. I just let the tether hand loose inside my pants and when I pull the gun with my right hand I just use my left hand to pll on the tether once it clears my waistband and pull off the guard with less force to pull it off of the gun. I can do this twice as fast as the method shown here. You can try looping it on your belt if you prefer as long as you are comfortable with it.

I carried bare bones for years, just got the technaclip for my G2c last week. it’s perfect for for people that don’t want to use a holster. I can conceal 99% of the gun WITH MY SHIRT OFF! Begin able to can’t it however you like you can put it level below your waistband. All you can see is a small piece of the techno clip (most covered by my 1.75” belt) The rear sites are covered by my waistband so it’s just the maybe 3/8” sticking up where you actually attach the clip in the rear. Very strong clip. Paired with those Kydex trigger guards it would be safer. Gym shorts, sweatpants, inside pockets to backpacks and even under the dash in my Rio theres a spot to clip it. Great product

Someone had mentioned this earlier about a week ago... So I installed a Technaclip onto my S&W M&P Bodyguard 380 (without laser). Then I went with an Aegis Armory "Guardian" Kydex Trigger guard. I loop the lanyard of the Guardian around one of my pant's belt loops. When I quick draw the Bodyguard the pistol comes out with no problem, the trigger guard is kept from falling down the pant leg because it's lanyard is around a belt loop. The Guardian does an excellent job of staying over the trigger of the pistol. I also keep it on safe and have the added benefit of having the standard heavy pull double action that all of the Bodyguard 380s have. I also have the bodyguard on my left waist in a cross draw configuration and it works very well. Another good option to the Technaclip is the Remora IWB Tuckable Holster. That thing works great and barely adds any bulk.

especially for the Glock, you can get a kydex trigger cover- Raven Vanguard, Fricke, MIC, etc.then you can more safely carry with a round chambered.

All things considered, I think the Clipdraw will work just fine on my 27. I don't wear too many layers of clothing here in Florida, so, less is better for me. Because of the clothing factor I have been putting off the idea of getting a concealed carry permit. And no, I don't carry WITHOUT a permit. I think the Clipdraw will solve my dilemma. Seems to be some confusion on conditions....Glocks can not be condition 1. Condition 1 (aka "cocked & locked) is usually reserved for single action (SA) automatics such as the 1911 pattern or Browning High Power, and means that there is a round in the chamber, the hammer is cocked and the slide safety is locked (on). It is the way this type of handgun is designed to be carried, in its highest state of readiness. The advantage is that it is very fast into action, the downside is that one must practice carrying/shooting from this mode to be safe and proficient. Some SA/DA handguns such as the H&K USP series and CZ's may also be carried in this mode. Condition 2 is when there is a round in the chamber and the hammer is down (uncocked). This mode is for 'modern' handguns like the SIG, Glock, H&K, S&W, and other DA/SA autoloaders that are designed to be carried this way. These guns typically have 2 or three internal safeties that block the firing pin, and disconnect the sear & trigger so that the gun may only be fired by pulling the trigger. This type of gun is quite safe in this mode, SA autoloaders are not. Condition 3 is where the hammer is down and there is no round in the chamber. This may be the safest way to carry an autoloader, but it is slow into action, as you must rack the slide to chamber a round before you're ready to fire.
@shrektec2005
@shrektec2005 10 лет назад
The above definitions for condition 1 2 & 3 are global accepted definition. So stating again that a Glock can be condition 1 does not make it so. A glock can be carried in condition 2 never condition 1.

So what you are demonstrating here is the clip draw paper weight holder. I wanna see you rack that slide when someone is attacking you and your other hand is occupied. i understand this is a debate that cant ever be won, but if we let our guns do the talking. One in the chamber hits the target faster everytime. May only be a second quicker but that can make all the differance.

The only thing I would add is a good trigger guard that pulls away as you draw your weapon. But I guess if you don’t carry with one in the chamber, that addition would be unnecessary. But with a trigger guard as well as a thumb safety (which I know is not an option on your Glock 27 unless you went with an aftermarket Cominnolli safety or may the gadget) I would feel comfortable carrying with one in the chamber.

I've seen this vid back in 2012 and it was the reason I started using clip draw. The having a round in the chamber is solely up the person. They maybe comfortable with doing that or trained like that. Me personally I've been using clipdraw now for 7 years and never had any mishaps. Its all in paying attention to what your doing so you won't have any accidental discharges and training with your weapon.

I don't understand having to rack the slide. I always carry ready to go. Him using his left hand close to his body to rack the slide is pretty quick, and seems to be proficient but, what if you are trying to keep some on off of you while you draw? Some one bum rushing you with a knife, a club or even a hammer, you'll want to deflect it while you draw or keep them at arms reach. This type of training is training for a specific kind of threat, a threat about 10 ft way, and definitely not rushing you. Most attacks happen a lot closer than that and you don't have much time to react, .3 of a sec is huge at close range. Also with the striker fire system most of the compacts have these days have it would be pretty unrealistic to think the trigger could somehow be pulled all the way to there rear while it's inside your pants, the trigger guard is designed to keep things out of there. Now if it was a 1911 cocked, I could understand that, but a striker fire you have to be actively pulling back on that trigger to finish the cocking stroke and then the release. JMHO

Thank you. Very informative. You know what you're talking about. Concealed carry does create some challenges. I find that the fact that you can move it around easily actually helps depending on weather you are sitting in a vehicle or walking around. Also the ease of taking it off without snapping or unsnapping or adjusting your belt. One thing you could do is have a tailor readjust your belt loops on your pants or shorts.

Aren't you concerned the clip will tear at your hands as the slide retracts when you fire the pistol? This seems like an accident waiting to happen. Do you feel this could be an issue and how was it at the range? Another thought I had, "if" someone used this without a holster, what's protecting the trigger? I like the idea, don't get me wrong. However, I believe these are valid points and therefore can't see myself using this product as this video describes. Thanks for sharing & good luck!!!

I have been carrying a G19 in condition 1 for several years with the clip draw. The safety and availability of the weapon greatly out ways the nanosecond needed to rack a round. This by the way, also alerts the bad guy that you mean business. Statistically 99.9% of the time you will not have use it. I do suggest having a quality 9mm jacketed FMJ round as your first round in the magazine, for positive first time feed.

This video is not new, but thanks for taking the time to make and share it. You provided some interesting and logical information. Because the opportunity for AD is exponentially higher than actually ever having to fire your weapon, I would never criticize someone for civilian, self-defense carry in C3. However, I am curious as to why you use the extended low ready position rather than the compressed high ready? Is that what they teach at Front Sight?

I've had this for a couple years now. I echo your points. I don't chamber a round. It's not safe to with this system. One thing to note, over time, the two screws in the back of the gun can become loose without notice. Consider some blue Loctite (not red) to ensure a solid clip over time. This system does come with it's drawbacks, but you have to weigh them against the positives and each user must decide for themselves. Thanks for the video and I'll add that drill to my line-up.

I guess with practice you could draw and chamber a round almost as fast as someone carrying in battery but I don't see the point. Concealed holsters have come such a long way that there's no reason to use this. I truly agree that IF you're gonna use a clip draw on a striker fired pistol then you should carry with empty chamber. I feel like an external hammer fired DA pistol would absolutely benefit from a clip draw.

Hi. Excellent review. I have to ask.... Are you still using this clip? I don't have experience using this device but yes, I'm one of those that think the trigger guard are is already is already block by your pants and body. So..do you have an update on this device? Are you using a different method now? Thanks

I carry clip draw open in my belt outside my pants. I have never had a problem. The trigger is guarded by the belt. I carry an xds 3.3 45 and it is comfortable and even though it is open carry it appears concealed. The way people carry is so personal so it just depends. I don't believe in spending a ton of money trying to figure out your carry method and end up having 20 holsters in your locker. Everyone is different. Having said that I like my clip draw.

I have never used clipdraw but I presume moving grip of your pistol is pretty easy to solve, just sew a small leather patch on your belt and make a pocket for the clip.

Use Clip draw with the M.I.C holster !!! I carry all my glocks with the MIC. G30 , G19 and G23 !! All guns also have clip draw on them to keep it angled the way I like !!! Love that I can Carry this system lock and loaded !!! Shorts , sweats , pants and swimming trunks (As long as I wear a belt) . People will never assume you have a loaded firearm on you !!! Its amazing

I have a ClipDraw on my G26. I use a similar draw technique as in this video, and although it's not the fastest means of engaging a target, it is the safest (while using a ClipDraw). Lets face it, when you're on the receiving end of small arms fire, most people no matter how much practice, will fumble with their weapon like Barney Fife!

Try the Saf-T-Blok trigger guard with the ClipDraw, a perfect solution for carrying hot. Works great with a Glock.

It appears to me that you really have to weigh the convenience of the Clipdraw with the inconvenience of not having a round in the chamber and the movement in the waistband. For me, the inconvenience outweighs the convenience.

I really do want to know your opinion on keeping a round in the chamber or not because I've heard a lot of controversy about it and I keep around in my chamber and I carry a glock 19 if not a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield EZ 2.0

I always carry with one in chamber you never know what could or may happen if you have to use one hand in a knife attack I wouldn't want to have to camber a round. You just never know anything can happen. Just always be aware of how you carry. Be safe.

Chances are, if you need a gun to defend your life you need it right now,not after you've had time to think about .That's why cops carry Glocks.

I’m considering this for my XDM 10mm that I carry as a sidearm in bear country. I have a chest holster that I use but it’s bulky and not very comfortable. I’m thinking this would be nice to just clip the gun to my pack waist belt or chest strap. Also, I can run a light on the rail and not need to spend tons of money on a custom holster that’ll just be uncomfortable. I think I’d feel comfortable carrying condition one as the XDM has a grip safety as well as the standard trigger safety. I don’t wanna be fumbling around trying to charge the gun while potentially being charged by a 10 foot monster that wants to eat me.

condition 1 if your life matters. glocks don't just go off. the trigger is 5.5 pounds. and if you really don't feel comfortable carrying with a clip draw and in condition 1, get one of those little kydex trigger guards with a short tether on it so it's covered and impossible to touch the trigger until you DRAW and as you pull it from your waist, it rips the trigger guard from the pistol easily and it hangs from your pants by the cord attached. it's all one motion and fast and safe.

I would more concerned about carrying my G30S without a holster in 95% humidity and 95 to 105 degrees in the summer. We measure sweat by the buck here in NE Oklahoma. If I get a clip draw, I'll be carrying with in the chamber behind a good gun belt.

I was just about to say that, would work great as a minimalist EDC or as a way to stay armed in a sitution where you might have to quickly go from apendix carry to deep concealment quickly. If you just want an easy on easy off holster you should look for one of those kydex holsters that has one clip on the oustide.

Training yourself to rack the slide immediately after you draw your weapon is the same as training muzzle awareness and trigger discipline. People who think you need to carry with a round chambered have watched to many movies or think they are in a quickdraw competition which RARELY resembles a real-life self-defense scenario. Most important way to carry your gun? WITH YOU. That is the key for self-defense... that and LOTS of practice...Good video- thinking about a clipdraw for my 27...

I'm not going to argue with you, but i would encourage you to start watching the RU-vid channel "active self protection" i have seen more than a few people die in a self defense situation on that channel due to carrying on a empty chamber. I use to carry on a empty chamber until i started watching his channel.

I see no problem with the technique. I really like the Israeli draw. I carried my j frame with clip draw for a while. I think with a long trigger pill like my Kahr CW9 it would not be a problem with one in the chamber though. Nice vid

Thanks for the info, I just subscribed to you. Great quality video, I Love the way you gave info and examples, nice clear, close up shots of how it works, and what it looks like. I am contemplating getting one of these, due to the fact that I only have this cheap, $10 IWB holster, been using it for about a year now, its still holding up well, but I am looking for a way to slim it down just a hair ya know? Again, Thanks Bro, keep up the good work!!

so that clipdraw doesn't block any casings that are being ejected? I know he just fired a few rounds with the clipdraw on covering that part of the slide

Thanks for the video. I saw your first one too, and plan on ordering a Clip Draw for my carry pistol. One think I'd like to note. 0:37 certainly proves that the trigger IS covered. Two layers of denim in the waistband, leather belt, and shirt over both of those. Show me any IWB holster that protects the trigger any better than that. It may add one more layer but in both instances, the trigger is covered until it clears the waistband. The only thing I've seen protect it any longer is that "Guardian", and I may order one of those too. I'm sure that Clip Draw makes their statement strictly for legal liability reasons because the world is full of idiots. Since I'm not one of those idiots and was raised on a 1911, I purchased a carry pistol with an external safety and double action first shot capability. It's a lot quicker to release that safety with one thumb than having to rack the slide with two hands like you did here. My thumb is on the safety before my finger gets to the trigger anyway.

Hey Boy Scout, whats your take on carrying a DAO pistol with a clip instead of a conventional holster? I.E. Ruger LCP/LC9 or Kel Tec P3AT/PF9. Would you clip carry with a live chamber on those types of guns?
@TheLateBoyScout

No. Any gun in that size range will be easy enough to carry in a proper holster.

I like to use a trigger cover on a piece of paracord attached to my belt (not belt loop) so when I draw it just pops off and I just clip it back on when I holster

Man, I was about to 'plunk down my dough', and then you pointed out that without the protection provided by a holster, striker fired pistols triggers are simply less safe when in this state. I'm not convinced that what you point out is true, but I KNOW that I would never forgive myself if I had an accidental discharge as a result of my not heeding your point. BUMMER, but point well-taken. I'm can't let myself buy one. Pooh.

Having one in the chamber is the difference between living and dying. What if you only have one hand? What if you dont have time to rack the slide? I'd rather use a RCS Vanguard II, its pretty much the same thing, but it covers the trigger so you can carry hot

+brentfoto Listen dude I was being polite. That being said, you can feel free to carry however you want. Thats your buisness. The simple fact is that racking a round when you should be firing that round is time wasted. Time wasted that could cost you your life.

I don't understand having to rack the slide. I always carry ready to go. Him using his left hand close to his body to rack the slide is pretty quick, and seems to be proficient but, what if you are trying to keep someone off of you while you draw? Some one bum rushing you with a knife, a club or even a hammer, you'll want to deflect it while you draw or keep them at arms reach. This type of training is training for a specific kind of threat, a threat about 10 ft way, and definitely not rushing you. Most attacks happen a lot closer than that and you don't have much time to react, .3 of a sec is huge at close range. Also with the striker fire system most of the compacts have these days it would be pretty unrealistic to think the trigger could somehow be pulled all the way to the rear while it's inside your pants, the trigger guard is designed to keep things out of there. Now if it was a 1911 cocked, I could understand that, but a striker fire you have to be actively pulling back on that trigger to finish the cocking the hammer and then the release of the hammer. JMHO

Not only is it smart to carry with one up top, but modern guns are designed to be carried with one up top and stay that way.

Glocks don't have safeties. No way am I carrying with a round chambered specifically because there is always a chance your trigger could be depressed by something, especially carrying it with that awful belt clip.

Still foolish. We were issued clipdraw on our Glock 26s and trained to draw without shooting ourselves. Clipdraw simply says that for liability/lawsuit purposes.
