Defensive Shape | Shape walkthrough
Objective: Walking through our defensive shape, unopposed, under different conditions.
Set up:
✅ Full pitch | 11 players
✅ Coloured triggers (I’ve shown at mannequins, but can be poles with a bib on top)
Instructions:
✔️Players are to line up in your chosen formation (4-4-2 in example, but amend to suit)
✔️On the coaches call, the formation is to adjust to where they should be in their shape. The coach is to call the colour of the station they want the players to adjust to
✔️When the players have fully adjusted to a station, walk through them and adjust their position if necessary. Think about the distance between players, their position on the pitch and how deep/high they are relative to the station
✔️To evolve, call the colour and “head up” or “head down”. This means that the player that we’re pretending is on the ball has either got their head up or down. If we’re saying the player has their head down, we can play a much higher line and attempt to get into a high block. If we’re saying the player has their head up, we need to play a deeper line and lower block (this is because the player has got their head up and time on the ball, they can play over a high line directly)
