Can you show how to populate the 3D PCB into the design workspace where the board outline was defined? This is the whole purpose of the integration right?

Hi Michael, thank you for your participation. Make design workspace active, now right click the 3DPCB from your Project Data Panel and select the option Insert into current design.

Autodesk Fusion 360 I have the same problem. The video is great but misses the final step which is indeed the whole point of the video. You suggest to make design workspace active and right click the 3DPCB. Man there are like 200 workspaces and PCBs/schematics everywhere. Are you able to be more specific or just upload a 30 second video to illustrate? Thanks

@@adskFusion When I do this, I get an error about cyclical dependencies. Has something changed in how this is supposed to work? Steps taken: 1) make sketch 2) create 3D PCB from Sketch 3) populate board in PCB design window 4) push changes to 3D PCB, save 5) activate design workspace 6) right-click 3D pcb in project data panel and select insert into current design. 7) ERROR: "Cyclical dependencies not allowed..."

I may have found the answer to my own question. Is this right? I need to create a new assembly file and import both the enclosure geometry and the 3D PCB there for final assembly. ??

Great! Is there an option to change the thickness of the PCB as it was the case with the previous version when eagle was not integrated yet? Somehow I can't find this option...

Thanks for this info but a couple questions. Is there anyway to modify the board shape in Fusion 360 and have those changes reflected in the 3D PCB work space? When I tested this, by using the Create 3D PCB feature, it sends you off to create it, but doesn't sync those changes back to Fusion 360. Am I missing something?

Hi John, this is Edwin, thank you for participating. At this time, the board shape edit would need to be done on the 3D PCB. In the 3DPCB timeline you will notice the sketch, edit the sketch. After editing the sketch right click on the extrusion timeline to edit the PCB.

As an engineer already fluent with Eagle and Fusion 360, I have to say it seems Autodesk created a completely different product with this release. It will take a much better learning and documentation package to make it productive. Way too many steps, way too many files created. No support for in house libraries. I was told it was released knowing that it wasn’t truly ready for prime time. Autodesk dropped the ball on this one.

Hey Bill, thanks for the feedback. I'll make sure to pass this along so that your thoughts/concerns are heard.

Hi Bill, thank you for taking the time comment on this quick tutorial. Not sure to understand what do you mean by "Support for in house libraries", if you currently have local libraries, you can upload them into existing Fusion 360 Project folder. From here you can edit and share them. From the manage library option, you are able to access your available libraries that you have converted into managed libraries or access managed folders that have been shared with you. How do I import PCB outlines generated in non-Fusion 360 mechanical packages ? Fusion 360 PCB package does not seem to have anyway to import a PCB outline from a file (DXF etc),. This is a massive limitation so I am hoping I am wrong about this ???

Hi! my PCB is meant to fit within a parametric design whose dimensions and shape can vary along time. For example they can decide to thicken the enclosure edges, or add fillets that would not allow my PCB shape to fit there anymore. Is there a way to update my PCB outline shape so that any change in my projected geometry is automatically reflected to the PCB outline? That woulbe be the ultimate benefit of a parametric design environment...
@alejandroperez5368
@alejandroperez5368 4 года назад
Pretty sure that's already implemented... as long as the selected profiles for your PCB shape remain intact. Then you'd have to "push the update" to the PCB space as shown on this video. Take this with a grain of salt , as I'm a novice with PCB design on F360
@hansdietrich83

Why does thus have less features then the fusion link inside eagle? Why does it not automatically appear in the design, where the outline was defined? Why does the board outline not update when I change the definition sketch?
@adskFusion
@adskFusion 4 года назад
Hi handsdietrich83, thank you for taking a look at the video and providing your insight. This is work in progress and it will get better. The 3D PCB now recognizes the geometry of every aspect of the PCB. This include Vias, traces and other assets of the board. This allows for the ecooling solver to work and eventually the implementation other manufacturing options. In EAGLE it only recognizes the geometry of the components. In the F360 3DPCB take a look at the timeline, here you can edit the sketch and change the original outline.

[Edit] it's working but we need a new folder for every project. it wasn't clear in the video. [/EDIT] the new version is really frustrating. this was not intuitive at all, and even with the tutorial, i can't do the synch with my blank electronic design group (schematic & board) it doesn't appear in the "link to" option, even if it"s perfectly saved .
@adskFusion
@adskFusion 4 года назад
Hi Adel, it is recommended that each electronic project does have it own project folder. Electronic projects will commonly consist of a linked Schematic, PCB and a 3DPCB. We recommend to organize your libraries on a seperate project folder, that way they are in one place when editing or adding is necessary.

You guys need to improve 3D sketching in Fusion 360, instead of adding tons of new features... I recommended this maybe a year ago and still, I see no improvement in the most important part of any 3d modelling software. If you look at the comments of the fusion 360 3d sketching tutorial videos on youtube, you will see people those are saying that sketching feature in 3d is so frustrating and extremely restrictive...
@adskFusion
@adskFusion 4 года назад
Thanks for the feedback! We're getting real close to an update to this side of the software...stay tuned. And I'm not talking about it like it's MONTHS away. Its REAL close.

Speaking as a noob, I wonder how someone with even a moderate amount of 360 experience would know to do these (many!) steps without the aid of this tutorial. Doesn’t seem at all intuitive. Maybe some of it will, eventually.

Hi Adam, thank you for your comment. We are committed to continue improving your experience. The primary benefit of this integration is that you will no longer have to convert files when venturing between the Electronic and Mechanical disciplines of your product.

@@adskFusion This feature is actually something I'd never use, but I was interested in it because I want to see if it's possible to learn to "think like Autodesk Fusion 360" to some extent, to be able to problem solve when encountering something new. This tutorial got me a little concerned that there might not be a way of thinking after all--it's just a lot of memorized steps.

I take back everything good I've said about F360 electronics integration. It's a hot mess, crashes every other day and the restrictions in the free version are just ridiculous and badly documented. Did you know the free version restricts you to the first quadrant of the coordinate system on PCBs? I didn't find that in the documentation, I had to figure that out trial and error, because the developers can't even be bothered to display proper error messages. Deeply annoyed and disappointed. If that's your attempt to get me to spring for the full version, congratulations, you failed most spectacularly.
