This song is about chi cheng, their former bassist who got into an accident and was in a coma, he was in the coma for 4 years then passed away. Chi cheng will always be remembered in deftones history.

I believe this song is about Chi in a coma and how he would give any fucking thing to see a smile, a wink, a nod.😢 The thousand days is him waiting years for his beloved friend to wake up. The imagery and feeling of this song shoots me like a bullet in the heart. RIP Chi. What a beautiful tribute. One of my favorite Deftones songs ever.

This glorious album was released around the time I was in rehab the first time in a rough part of Baltimore City, Maryland that I felt all alone in. It was my first of several different stints in rehab and I couldn't shake the powerful and sinister urge of using but at any rate this album helped me deal with my constant feeling of shame, sadness and even helped when I felt good and was intoxicated. This album is very moody and atmospheric which is a wonderful thing to have on an album. I still enjoy the hell out of Diamond Eyes and consider it one of their top 3 best albums and one of my favorite hard rock/metal albums for sure. Music is a powerful tool and has helped me along this strange and crazy journey we call life. Much love to all my fellow Deftones fans 👍🤘🏼🤘🏼❤️💛🖤🎸😎💥🔥🔥🔥🚬😇🤙
