Been a fan since 1997. I'm 47 and bought this album the week it was released. Baffles me that it's 17 years old already when it still feels so new to me. Not my favourite Deftones album overall , but it sure has some great individual tracks on it, this being one of them. Just can't believe how quick the time has passed since 2000. The moral of this is to the younger fans. Appreciate your late teens to late twenties because once you get to your late 20's time really flies. Pink Floyd were so right when they said "And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you, no-one told you when to run. You missed the starting gun". Peace and love to you all :)

Deftones have always been the epitome of everything I ever wanted in music. Rage, beauty, depressing, soaring, joyful, nostalgic. I’ve listened to thousands of albums and hundreds of bands spanning all different kinds of genres. Deftones will always be my favorite band ever.

I want to thank you all for the support just with the few words. This has been my support for the past 9-10 months. Pretty much every day I have seen a response and I have liked every one of them. I have no clue what my mom and I will do as of now but I hope something will happen that will save us. I remember the first day Chi came out to our job site to work as a carpenter. He lasted a couple weeks. It was his first and last job. Nothing motivates a musician like a hard day at work. RIP brother.

I have a very strong emotional connection with Minerva. During my adolescence I suffered a lot from insomnia, and to this day I still have a bit of trouble sleeping well, until i discovered this song. It was the first Deftones song i heard. For about 2 years of my life I could only sleep listening to this song. Thanks Deftones for this masterpiece. I'm Brazilian and i don't speak english fluently, so i hope these words make some sense :)

Deftones is the heavy metal band that can write songs about sex without sounding trashy. They have their own genre of music.

This song was the one I danced to at my wedding with my wife. Every time I hear it, it brings me one of the greatest moments I've ever had in my life so far.

"Minerva was the Roman goddess of wisdom, medicine, commerce, handcrafts, poetry, the arts in general, and later, war. In many ways similar to Greek goddess Athena." Considering this and examining the lyrics leads me to believe this song is about a great battle (Possibly even The Battle Of Carthage where Rome finally ended The Punic Wars because the setting of this video is a desert) that has just been finished and the goddess of war is singing "it's over" and soldier's falling to there knee's in relief of surviving this battle. That's my idea for the meaning behind Minerva.

There is something almost orchestral about this song. The way Chino weaves the melody around the glacial guitar and gargantuan groove. Light and shade have always been at the heart of Deftones. No better example than this. A great place to start for those new to this truly unique band.

I'm a 38 year old deftones fan, and have recently come to discover that I have lived with an anxiety disorder my whole life, considering the way I live to be 'normal'. For the best part of the last 21 years, deftones have taken me to a place I need, ,,,the 'place' I'd rather be. As I live in my new realization, and come to terms with who I am, today I live inside of the deftones. .....as they live in me. Why are they SO good? Been a fan since '97 and I just turned 40 last month. When I was 15, I remember walking my girlfriend home quite often and then walking the next 15 minutes back to my house (we couldn't really hang out together past like, 9pm.. "parent rules").. I would play Around the Fur in my cd walkman (anti skip).. it was Christmas time and there were lights everywhere. I'll never forget walking home those nights.. in love.. first love.. feeling those new experiences and thinking you had it all figured out..

That chorus is the most triumphant thing I've ever heard in my life. AND GOD BLESS YOU DEFTONES!!!

I was 17 and was so underwhellmed when this album came out, but as a major fan i stil listened to it every day. Now years past and it hits on another level. Life is very strange. First time in history the future is dawning with unknown on every single of us, and all generations are united in the era of lucid nostalgia, empowerment and emotional chaos. Their music has carried me through and im glad to be alive in this moment in universal timeline. Have a great day everyone.

How can a song be so powerful and so oddly soothing. The first 2 minutes are like muscle cars bursting trees along a country road then 2:25 hits and I'm like relaxed and I calm down just to speed up again for that last chorus.

For me it's about music itself. It's so clear when he says "song" and "sing". We can find so much confort and peace trough our emotional storms on music. It can breaks our hearts as well and connect us to our deepest feelings. There are songs that can really save us... This is my favourite song on earth!

I love deftones for one reason, and that reason is the fact that I always hate their songs at first. After a couple listens, you can start feeling the vibe and you find the true beauty of every one of their songs. Many of my friends have the same reaction, they hear one of their songs and go "it just sounds like random noise". After they listen to it more and more, they completely turn around and go "you know what, this song is pretty dope". Keep doing your thing deftones, I have yet to be disappointed

I get chills listening to this. It's like that feeling you get when you're in the shower and it's the right amount of warm and you get goosebumps everywhere cause it just feels really amazing. That's what I associate Deftones with.

Still remember the overwhelming sense of awe this song left me feeling back when it came out when I was in 7th grade. Not really the biggest Deftones fan, but this song will always have a special place in my heart and my ears.

The first Deftones song I ever heard was Change (In The House Of Flies). It was on Big Shiny Tunes 5, and even though it was a watered-down radio edit of the song, I thought it was pretty amazing, but it wasn't enough to really get me into the band. Then I heard My Own Summer (Shove It) on the soundtrack for The Matrix, and I thought to myself, "This might be a band worth looking into more", but for whatever reason I just never got around to it. Then a few years later, one fateful day I randomly switched on the radio and I heard Minerva on the airwaves for the first time, and I immediately fell completely in love. It's to date still my favourite Deftones song.

In 2012. A friend and I were laying on the hood of his car. He had never seen a shooting star. This song was blaring through the speakers and rolled down windows when the flash of falling star rained across. It was magical.

This is so emotional. His voice, the nostalgic wave the song gives off. Just enough to bring a tear to someone's eye. Deftones is and always will be my favorite band.
