Episode 10: Rumours and Reputations
Recently diagnosed with a learning disorder, an embarrassed Liberty is ashamed to tell her friends about her tutoring sessions. Emma sees one of Liberty's private sessions and, putting two-and-two together with Liberty's suspicious behaviour, asks J.T. if he thinks something could be going on with Liberty and Mr. Armstrong the math teacher. Terri overhears and it takes no time for the rumour to spread throughout the school, and Liberty is incredibly upset. When she tries to get to the root of the rumour, Emma is horrified to discover that it was actually her. When the principal begins to investigate the rumour, Emma has to confess.
Spinner's disgusted when he finds a bug in his food at the cafeteria - but given his ongoing war with the cafeteria lady and his history of loud complaints about the food, no one will believe him. He hatches a plan - he collects a big container of bugs and plants them in his friends' food. But when the container turns over in the ensuing panic, the cafeteria's extermination bill is too high for Spinner to pay. He finds that he'll have to spend the rest of the year in a hairnet, alongside his archrival the cafeteria lady…

Emma may have overstepped boundaries, but it was only because she was the victim of a pedo herself, obviously. I came to like Liberty more later on, but she was one of the most annoying/rude people in the series at this point.

Jordan M Sometimes victims don't know how to speak up, or they delude themselves into believing that the abuser really loves them. Emma was trying to let Liberty know that it was was okay to speak up. She may have been wrong, but it is better to be safe than sorry. And to be fair, Liberty would have been the perfect target for a sexual predator. She was a people pleaser and a social outcast.

don't get me wrong, I enjoy the "new class" on netflix... but the authenticity is missing from Degrassi now. everyone is always so done up, dressed to the T, attractive, short and petite... where'd the realness go? I feel like that's why we all love the original TNG cast so much, you had very obvious different body types, no one looked the same, no one acted the same, no one ALWAYS had make up on.... the new degrassi just seems so, commercialized? too "perfect" to be relatable on some levels. bring the originality, relative degrassi back please.

This episode has a weird message.... Make sure you have evidence before reporting a serious accusation? WHen it comes to child safety, you hear even one rumor, you report it so it can be investigated. Especially if you're these kids' ages. How exactly would a 12 year old be able to prove that another student is possibly being abused by a teacher? Emma was absolutely right to be concerned. And Gavin was right about the earwigs. True, neither of them handled their respective situations correctly, but they're tweens, and both of them were gaslighted. WHy are they villainized for trying to speak up when they see something suspicious??

Emma didn't start the rumor, she was just talking to her best friend about how to handle the situation (as any of us would most likely do at that age), and Terri overheard it and then she spread it without knowing whether it was true. She was the cause of the rumor starting, but she didn't actually start it or spread it. Big difference.
