@@williethomas9953no he got shot cause he was at the wrong place and the wrong time... Spinner was to blame cause he's the one who send the nerd to the edge
Me too, but honestly for the time period it was amazing how much we did get at all, they rectified this later with Tristan by giving him non gay storylines. Sucks that Tristan was insufferable tho.
yeah the way they went about his character was some what interesting and different i mean i get not wanting to lose your first love but your right that dylan thing was toxic and he was obsessed they could of done better by giving him a real relationship
Everyone said homophobic things back then and you better not let anyone find out you were gay. You better be part of a sports team because if you were not then you are a sheep walking into a pack of wolves. I’m 36 now and that’s how it was back when I was in high school.
I remember when Spinner and Marco's actors reenacted Marco's coming out scene 10 years later, and even did a role swap version too, with Spinner coming out as gay.
To think this was only 17-20 years ago. People complain about lgbt representation being too “in your face” and celebrated these days but it wasn’t too long ago that kids would be relentlessly bullied for being gay or sent to conversion therapy and it would be looked at as a “reasonable response” to homosexuality. It’s more accepted to be gay in a lot of countries these days and that’s why so many people are advocating for more representation into media.
My biggest trigger is the rivalry between Christians and the LGBTQIA+ community. I don’t know much about religion, but I do know that the Gospel of Jesus Christ was NEVER intended to used as a means for division! It was NEVER intended to be used as a weapon! The Gospel of Jesus Christ was supposed to be an example of LOVE, SERVICE, FAMILY, FRIENDSHIP. Jesus Christ NEVER looked down on a single soul! We are FAILING our Lord and Savior with how much division is in our world today!
Then the only thing that I like about the LGBTQIA+ community that I can be hooking up with lesbians and making out with them. Yeah that's why I'm a straight guy.
I felt bad for marco. Im not gay . But im sure it was hard for marco to tell his father that hes gay especially knowing how his father feels about gays and saying it in front of the entire school . And it didnt help that his dad didnt want to sit down and talk to him and just live in denial after he told him. Spinner didnt help either by writing it on the wall in the bathroom and for how he treated him in gym class .
I am not religious and I have nothing against gay people. In the Bible, it is very strongly against homosexuality. The following verses clearly state that. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Roman 1:18-32, Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13 and Genesis 19. Even if you believe that silly Garden Of Eden story, God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.
I'm not religious and I don't care about anyone that is gay. Because it doesn't matter to me at all. But I do like Jay saying hey buddy don't drop anything infront of homochuk.
@@isaactheworshipwarrior6687IKR, didn't even have the guts to own it. Was going start a rumor with plausible deniability until getting caught by Jimmy.
I wish you would have kept the bit after he gets attacked at the park where Jimmy runs all the way to him after that phone call.. I don't know why it's just a moving moment He hears his friend is in trouble He runs trying to find him and then just hold him as he breaks down because he's a true friend and isn't going to judge his friend for breaking down He's going to support him and hug him and let him cry that shit out without a bit of judgement... They both laid their bits well Marco played the tragedy Jimmy played the support and concern... It was a really moving scene
In 2024 this might seem exaggerated, but it's not. When I was a freshman, I remember a popular guy in my class saying the same exact line "Why don't we just put all gay people on an island or something?" and the teacher didn't reprimand him at all. This was 2005 but I will never forget that and I remember feeling so disgusted but I didn't feel brave enough to say anything. It was so prevalent back then.
Even to this day there a lot of people who still don't like gay people... And they use their bible as a reason why, hide behind their book to spout hatred towards us... And some aren't even religious but hate us too just because ... Ignorance because they don't know how much we suffered
@RyanRoemer8624 Perhaps you need to be dep or Ted back to Leipzig or sent to Leningrad (St.P) you use 'Iess braggart. You'd be more welcome over there, considering your in bred Soviet roots.
@@xxkarlosxxxxxx7233 True, and Marco's dad still loved him and didn't kick him out of the house. And like I mentioned, Marco's dad still accepted him nonetheless, Zoe's mom on the other hand completely disowned her and actually dropped off her birth certificate to her at her graduation.
Me too I wish we had more scenes with Dylan and Jay, that would have been very different and nice to see. I could see Dylan beating up Jay, he wasn't about his nonsense.
And this was just in the mid-2000’s so it wasn’t too long ago that people were this narrow minded about LGBT people and I also love how Marco drained Spin’s confidence when Marco said that Spin wasn’t that cute
I finally understand why my best friend had such a struggle.. ironically when he came out to me... I protected him because I wasn't and won't abandon him. I love him more than my own family..Still.
I couldn't stand the Jimmy character until he started to support Marco and was eventually nice to Rick, then I hated Spinner after that for a long time.
🥺 i didnt realize Spinner was so off kilter toward homosexuals. That saddens me. But Marco enduring all that he did, is truly the sad thing because he had to live it.
@@prinz89 too true 🙏 especially when he had to be, like for f*ck sake when could he catch a break. But I'm glad things did get better for him as the series went on
because its the sad reality that happens to a lot of teens especially in early 2000s thats why i love degrassi it wasnt afraid to go there and show the real life problems teens deal with, sometimes even behind the curtain
@@Darkrose517 Maybe, but somehow Marco and Sean seem like it would make for a better storyline. But then again, Marco did kiss Craig. Even though it was on impulse.
Snipper being upset with Marco's gayness was 100% understandable. Snipper was looking out for his friends and he was afraid that Marco would spread the AIDS amongst their friend group. Snipper had every right to be scared and concerned.
I always hated it when jumped by bullies because he’s gay and he’s homosexual it cost by getting jumped by the bullies it’s wasn’t be pretty and it’s pretty horrible also pretty scary to watch oh and it’s pretty saddening heartbreaking too Marco he should’ve come clean too he’s whole friends and he’s parents also it’s pretty painful for Marco
Marcus: "Man, all I did was tell you the truth 😢" Snipper: "I NEVER ASKED YOU TO". Except he did ask him to. He basically hounded him outside The Dot for answers about why he wouldn't date hazel. Marc should have said "I don't find Hazel attractive but i didnt want to say it in front of her so I came out here". Snipper would have understood because even though he called her "one of Degrassi's coolest girls", she's not attractive. Instead he outed himself to the worst possible person.
This would always make my blood boil about homophobia and their discrimination towards gay people that would always piss me off ESPECIALLY the bullying which unacceptable anywhere anyplace anytime
Why are Marcos parents walking stereotypes?! I feel like there was supposed to be some sort of plot line of him being a son of immigrants and culture shock but it never got off the ground.
@@NoonecaresaboutyouuHe didn't bother say nothing to him. He didn't complain about Spinner still continuing to hang with him even after the school shooting
There is nothing sane about heteronormative assumptions about human sexuality. After 70 years of attempted education and battles very few true gains in understanding and true acceptance has been made. Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Saviour. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Ephesians 5:22-33 Now that you can read what god tells you, put your Bibles in the garbage! Besides there is no god, which is a important point.
I know it's 2 different shows, but I need to ask this, how is it that Marco, a Gay man on Degrassi: The Next Generation, who only had one sex partner at this time, got grief about Blood donation, but Shane, a Lesbian woman from The L Word, had multiple female partners and was a sex worker at one point, has never gotten a checkup?
