What about the university perspective? Overall I feel that this conversation largely focussed on the benefits of a degree apprenticeship over university-seemingly positing that a degree apprenticeship is just a more liberal, advantageous version of university and one where the cost is covered by the employer. But are there any advantages to going to university that can't be enjoyed at an apprenticeship? I've currently applied for both and am seriously contemplating which to choose. Any advice would be deeply appreciated.

I am a tech degree apprentice. I think full time uni has only one advantage over degree apprenticeships: the social life. You can meet more people your age at uni than at work. My apprenticeship has about 60 people in my cohort, but uni has thousands. Also, it’s easier to socialise at uni than at work, where you have to be professional. Some apprenticeships have even fewer people, so they might feel lonely. However, I think degree apprenticeships are better in every other way: you don’t get into debt, you earn money, you gain work experience that helps your career more than a normal degree. I also enjoy my degree more than a typical computer science degree, because it’s more practical and relevant to my work. The only other thing that uni might be better at is that some degrees are more flexible; if you are not sure what you want to do for work, something like a maths degree can keep many doors open. But degree apprenticeships are very specific, so they are great if you have a clear goal, but not so much if you want to change careers.

@@Luke_ Thanks for your advice. In the time between then and now, my apprenticeship has already turned me down, so either way it looks like I'm heading to university, but that's still good to know ^^
