@@jasondurden7384 They sound much better than most doing it. I love hearing bands like Obituary, carcass, morbid angel etc and know exactly what I'm hearing on the first note
@@clintn6677 to be fair carcass and cannibal corpse have changed their rigs through the years but trey and trevor have pretty much had the same rig forever. Terrance hobbs is another guy that has played a ton of different amps through the years
@spiritofthetallhills I would love to see an episode with Carcass. Since Heartwork they went from Peavey to EVH 5150s although they still used the Peavey when recording.
Boy Aditya the Metalcore pedal was released in 2007... Either you mean the MT-2 or the HM-2 but most old school death bands used a DS-1 or similar distortion pedal together with either Ampeg or Marshall amps.
Has to the Boss metal..... with mids. Entombed crAnked the mids all the way up on Left Hand Path. People thought it was some secret exclusive thing to get that sound. Just the Boss metal pedal with mids. Lol. I think the later one didn't have mids
The synopsis of this video is funny. "Deicide is best known for their songs"Homage For Satan" and "Scars Of The Crucifix." Deicide has released brutal music for over 25 years now.
I adore that Jack's guitar gear is basically randomly cobbled together mid tier shit. Next time you get GAS, remember that this dude makes some of the most hardcore death metal in the world using the Line 6 insane setting.
I'm not a drummer but I always loved the way he used his symbols within the music of Deicide. An amazing drummer who doesn't get mentioned enough. Thanks for this.. Great channel
God, this makes me feel old. I can only imagine how they feel. The first time I saw Jack live he still had long hair. The first time I saw Deicide live Glen wasn't fat :P It was over 20 years ago.
@Johnny Wheels My band opened for Deicide a couple of years ago and they were super cool... Except for Glen. He was kind of a dick but he actually mellowed out after a bit and sat and shot the shit with me and had a couple of drinks. He was actually pretty cool once the wall came down.
I met Steve and glen benton.. IN NYC in a small club gramercy.... i told steve that I have been a fan since the beginning... Steve replied back thank 🙏 😊 you so much because we really can use the support.. he was very humble and glen benton was cool too..HAIL DEICIDE
I've seen so many Rig rundowns for years. But Jack Owens Rig is something I just couldn't believe. A line6 Processor. I used to own one around 10 yrs back. Pod X3live. Sold it to upgrade to Analog style preamp and chose to go with SansAmp TriAc. It still Rocks. Also recently bought AMT B2 Preamp. It keeps getting better.
Blows my mind how one of the most influential death metal guitar players ever is still using a solid state pedal for his main live sound. I knew Jack was using digitech stuff with Cannibal Corpse but I thought he started using tube amps when he switched to Deicide. Too bad he didn't chug a few notes to hear how good he can make that shitty line 6 sound haha!
We've been getting surprised lately with some of the gear bands are using. These digital units make obtaining the same sound night after night, a lot easier of a process, which makes them very appealing to bands who play gigs every night. We wish we could get sound as well, but this video was literally filmed in a 10 minute gap between them loading their gear up and the support band and local openers loading their gear.
Jack likes to keep it simple, he makes any instrument and amp sound good, plus he is very good guitarist can play any request, pleasure to tour with him
Line 6, Jack Owen needs a Helix, send him one pronto please, lol. I'm sure an amp company could send them some heads too. Revv, Engl, Marshall, Orange ... c'mon, we want these guys to keep crushing us with filthy powerful metal tones \m/
Deicide has a lot of awesome stuff they released. I'm looking forward to seeing their new album, they're new latest single Excommunicated is super wicked.
even more so with the sv-pre 12ax7 mod on those bogner/line6 spider jobs. 300 dollar pawn shop amp with an sv-pre mod is the best sound one can get without splitting off to 2 amps of diff tone
Glen you probably won’t read this but it is because of Bob Larson that I heard about Deicide and I went out immediately and bought my first Deicide record so in a sick way he has increased your work. I first heard about Morbid Angel as well.
Very interesting video. This made me buy a Line6 Floor Pod Plus as a backup for my DV Mark Multiamp. They're cheap and if Jack Owen uses one of those live they must be pretty good.
Jack coming from cannibal corpse, almost everyone in cannibal corpse knows how to make cheap gear sound awesome, i think some of their best albums have been done with Crate amps , and that is crazy
Cobra Lounge! Went to this show too! :D Awesome that you guys do a lot of your shooting around the Chicago area. Subbed after the Nile video. Would love to see you do one with an Industrial band like Front Line Assembly (who are playing tonight, but maybe next time) or Skinny Puppy. Would also love to see you do a gear run down with a Doom band. Keep it up!
Awesome! Thanks guys! Would love to see some love for the electronic gear. I'm interested in the gear of Death/Doom & Funeral Doom bands because I'm working on a Funeral project myself, and would love to get an idea of how those bands get their sound. But those bands don't play here that often. Tons of Stoner Doom bands come through though haha. Which would also be cool. (Hint: Orange & Sunn :P)
I didn't understand the comment initially because the lack of punctuation in the first sentence, but after a little digging, I now realize you want us to film an episode with the band Possessed. Next time they tour the states, we'll try to get them!
I don't know if you recall Steve, The Machine in Massillon Ohio. Probably 1998? We got to meet you guys and opened up for you as Masdecay. It's been a long minute ago but you guys were pretty damn cool. And kicked ass on stage! I remember pushing you guys out of the snow in your U-Haul... LOL!
I appreciate the heart! Not many people get those on this channel. Deicide is one hell of a band... There is no denying that. Whether you love them or hate them. I don't care. I happen to really appreciate Glen and his devastating vision. And the fact that he hates snow... LOL! I was there the day he bitched about it whilst we pushed him out of it! I don't think he'd ever seeing snow quite like what we had that day. I was thoroughly expecting that upside-down cross and his forhead, to melt his path free... Lol!!!
Why people keep calling this old school death metal? It's just death metal! The original thing. The stuff today is done are subgenres and combinations (most, of many different genres, not just death metal), but this stuff is the real death metal.
Fun story about Jack's RA2. I just finished set setup and finals before shipping to Jack. I had it in the backseat of my car ready to ship. Went home for dinner and then I went to ship it out...and someone had broke into my car and stole it in that short window of time. I filed a police report and 4 days later I got a call from PD and it was found 4 blocks from my home out of the box but still in the case in the backyard of a random house. The case was locked so I am assuming he couldn't get a quick look so they dumped it. I thought I would never see it again. Luckily I didnt have to break the bad news to Jack.
I was told that from a guy that read a comment i posted on ola video.I asked if steve swanson was still in sfu and the guy said jack owen just joined .
