It would appear more appropriate for people of a certain age and caliber to say they are engaged because saying "my fiance" sounds more palatable than my man, my woman, my girlfriend, or my boyfriend. NOTE: If a couple is engaged for more than 6 months without setting a wedding date, they are not getting married. That is common knowledge. Oh, you sound a little triggered.
