Hello Matt! I recently found your channel after weeks of searching for enquiries without answers from creators or even deity themselves. I hope you see this and can help me out. I recently got the deity theos and i have some unanswered questions and confirmations. I'd be glad if you could help me out. 1. In the Workstation menu in the app, i usually see one of my transmitters in a submenu called unallocated. Is that normal or i need to do something? 2. In the time code menu, the TC sync is grayed out till i change TC settings before i can sync, right? 3. Can the antennas on the receiver be repositioned by loosening the screw? 4. Lastly, I know that a change in frequency or some settings of the receiver would simultaneously affect the transmitters, but in my case, there’s sometimes a connection issue that I have to pair them again to sync settings. Is that also normal ? I have the global version in EU territory for more context. Thank you!
I may be wrong, but I believe the units sold in the US must not have that capability. But the international version should have that geolocation feature. Id reach out to Deity for clarity if needed.
Thanks for the great review, and most importantly for what I was looking forward to the most, the fact you can't record a backup while transmitting. Yikes. Will hunt for the international unit. Many thanks!
Nice review. Are you still using this setup? I've been looking at all the UHF options including Deity, Sony, Shure, Sennheiser. The Deity seems great, perhaps with a Sanken or DPA lav, and the sync with TC-1 seems incredibly efficient.
Yes. Syncing with the deity timecode system is fantastic. I had some frequency issues on a shoot once, but a firmware update fixed it. Im actually probably about to pull the trigger on a cos11d.
Have you noticed a decent amount of hiss/self noise when transmitting or recording? Not sure if it’s the deity lav mic itself…or my preamps. I have a Mixpre but also want to connect into camera as well.
Recording and transmitting at the same time is available everywhere in the world except for the US! Zaxcomm owns that patent, so youd need to use zaxcomm transmitters and receivers to take advantage of that. Bummer i know, but i also know many people have bought Deity Theos units in canada and had them shipped by a friend to the US. Do i condone this? No. But will the police knock on your door? Also no.
People also thought they wouldn't get caught using drones in restricted places. im sure there are workarounds if you buy the international version and use a vpn or something. not worth it to me haha
I just picked up a used Deity Theos 2-channel kit (used but almost mint) from B&H for nearly 35% off. I’m betting it was returned cause of the fact that the US models can’t record 32bit and transmit to the receiver simultaneously but that’s speculation.. will be testing to see how it works for me. I just wish Deity would acknowledge or confirm that they have the capability of pushing a firmware update once the patents are no longer in effect. Idk if they have but theoretically I would think it’s possible.
Thats a good deal! I believe they can't push a firmware update to US versions because of that patent but I may be totally wrong on that. I believe this has been addressed in the Theos user group on Facebook but not sure about anything else from Deity.
Yeah I get they can’t currently release any sort of firmware. I’m thinking when the patents expire they should be able to then unlock the ability to simultaneously record and transmit via firmware. The hardware is there in the system.
the RX is battery-powered but can also be powered by its USB-C port. Im using a battery bank at the moment until i build out a more professional power system for my bag.
what do you mean you could have selected theos system with mdot connector ? I want to connect shure twinplex tl48 with mdot to deity theos what connector piece is needed to do this ?
The one in the video is from K-Tek. Ive seen some nice things from Orca as well www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1371251-REG/k_tek_kstgmix_stingray_mixpro_bag_for.html
