We just bought an ifetch for our ball obsessed mini daschund. I wish I would have watched this prior to purchase because our dog is now overwhelming obsessed with the machine. Obsessed. His while body shakes. He won't even take a treat he just wants to play. It's not an unsupervised toy like we thought it would be for him (sort of like a doggy treadmill). Great information! Thanks
Omg, that is so adorable him putting it in, and then being so excited for it to come out. I just got mine & I'm having trouble training my Bichon/Maltese dog to use it. He just drops it near me. lol I will try your tips.

I could put in a delay that would randomly launch at say between 3 - 10 seconds. It seems the anticipation is half the fun, and that would mix it up. Now I want a dog, and an iFetch just so I could make it better.
always annoys me when people get papillons and never do things like this with them, and expect them to be just pretty lapdogs. I grew up with them, they're active little things who love to run and smart enough to be taught some pretty complicated tricks. hah you've made me miss my critters now, Deku looks like how my Nutmeg looked, and she was just as crazy.

It's so funny to see how Deku both want to drop the ball, but at the same time loves to have it in his mouth and chewing it a little bit first. Training the dog to drop the ball in the lower part of the opening will reduce the chance for the ball to bounce out of it. Dog need to learn that the lower part is the front, and the higher side is the back.
Deku is such a cute Papillon and loved watching him!! They are my fav breed by far. Im planning on getting the ifetch for my Papillon Stella and was going to order more of the xs kong squeaker balls that I already have cuz I heard the balls it comes with suck. Those green balls you are using aren't the ones that came with it right? Thought it comes with Blue ones...If they are different ones then where did you get the green balls? (what brand etc.)?
This is absolutely hilarious! I bought it for my yorkie but he's not big into balls so I'm still trying to find a way for him to get interested in it, he could care less, he likes to chase his stuffies and constantly wants you to throw those but balls...nope hoping I can somehow rig this so he'll want to actually use it! It is a cool toy though! Well worth the 115 I paid for it even though punkin doesn't play with it quite yet.
They should put a motion sensor in front of the exit tube so it won't launch when a dog is in front of it... it probably wouldn't be too difficult nor would it be that expensive.. love the toy and your papillon!
beautiful little boy. I have just bought one for my pomx chi. It has not arrived yet but I am excited to see how she will go. She is easy to train as she will do anything for food. Because we live in an apartment she is inside until I take her out. So, even though I play fetch inside with her, sometimes it is not convenient for me to play when she wants to. I see this as a soet of dog sitter! Because it cost so much money though she is not getting another birthday or christmas gift for the rest of her life!
I think this device has a design flaw, it doesn't take into account how the dog returns the ball. The dog definitely doesn't want to go around to the "front", because from its view it is the back of the device, the tube at the top should be leaning either to the left or the right, not to the back. You can see how awkward Deku is when s/he tries to drop the ball into the "mouth" of the device, because it is leaning to the wrong direction.
The "sink" should lean to either side, so the dog doesn't need to walk to the rear end of the device. Anyway, if I had a dog, I would throw the ball manually, and pet it every time it fetches the ball. When my sister comes over with her dog, it doesn't really want to let go the ball, because it wants some reward for fetching, either some treat or just some petting around its smart little head.
I bought one and even though my little dog would fetch when I turned on the machine the noise terrified her. So first I had to teach her the noise would not hurt her. We got going with it and she was fine, though she would not put the ball in the machine. Then she walked in front of it just as it was about to shoot and it hit her in the side really hard so we are back to square one.
+Marcel Rojas y Konkol I used the "touch" command and rewarded him with a clicker and treats when he touched his nose to the entrance and worked from there. He is a full Papillon.

My dog LOVES this toy, but he will not for love nor money put the ball in there! He'll stick his nose in the hole and, touch the trigger, but never, ever with an actual ball in his mouth. He's super smart otherwise....I'm not sure what his hang up is :( I may try teaching him the 'touch' command and see if that has any effect. Fingers crossed.
