I got this album for my dad "frank" when it came out, he loves all things Wilbury .He is 84 and has "Parkinsons." when Tom Petty Died he was gutted. he said to me that there are only 2 Wilbury's left. Del was going to take Roy's place, but that wasn't to be. Depression took Del. .look after those near to you, 'cos you never know what tomorrow might bring.
great posting this brought a tear to my eye i toured with Del in the 70s was in band with him when he recorded live in England album in 72 and this just highlights the enormous and highly respected talent Del had we all loved him to bits a very sad loss..
Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne always seem to be having so much fun and puting a humourous touch on everything. At 2:30 Tom starts dancing back and forth while putting funny faces and then Jeff turns around and starts slapping his bottom and even Del joins him. Funny duo.
Del is my favorite singer. I was about eleven years old when "Runaway" came out. I'm sorry to hear him using foul language during this production. His music was so innocent and endearing. Suicide was not his best choice. It's a shame.
You're cousin was such an amazing talented man. I know it's been over 20 years since his death, but I am so sorry for your loss. Del's music will live on forever and he'll always be one of my biggest musical influences. God bless the entire Westover family.
Why would he be in the middle of recording an album working with Petty and Lynne and kill himself? Did you ever wonder ...was Prozac such a suicidal drug that he'd take his life...it doesn't make sense.
YES , JAMES , DEL SHANNON ( CHARLES WESTOVER ) WAS A GREAT TALENT IN HIS FIELD OF MUSIC , A GREAT SINGER , SONGWRITER , GUITARIST & A VERY GOOD PRODUCER . YES , IT WAS A VERY TRAGIC LOSS ON HEARING OF HIS DEATH & THE WAY THAT HE DIED !! WE COULDN'T BELIEVE IT !! OVER HERE IT WAS ALL OVER THE FRONT PAGES OF THE MORNING NATIONAL PRESS !! ----- WE UNDERSTOOD THAT HE WAS DUE TO COME OVER HERE FOR A * SELL OUT TOUR OF UK. ------ NO ONE COULD GRASP WHAT HAD HAPPENED !! YES , JAMES , ALL OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU & ALL THE FAMILY INCLUDING HIS WIFE . YES , DEL WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED AS LONG AS THE WORLD REMAINS !! JOHN IN UK.
Thanks so much for this video...Del Shannon was a great talent, a one-of-a-kind artist. His tragic end should not overshadow how much his fans everywhere loved him and his music.
this is great,,watchn del in the studio..your there real inside stuff..jeff..elo..loved del too..play dels... for a little while ...good song never played shame really..he got ripped off by those music demons..rock on.
Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and Del Shannon, rare glimpse inside studio! : making Shannon's 1981 album, Drop Down & Get Me." "I Go to Pieces", "Walk Away.", etc. Shannon was rumored to possibly replace Roy Orbison in Travelin' Wilbury's when he passed away. Blog: beatlely.wordpress.com/2014/09/16/del-shannon-keep-on-searchin/
Actually this is from 1989 when Del Shannon was working on what would be an album called Rock On! which was released posthumously in 1991 after his death in Feb 1990
Well done [again] Keith. This video gives a great insight into 'behind the scenes' Del - including his propensity for using the 'F' word. He looked so much on top of his game here and this was filmed, presumably, not long before he decided he'd had enough. Tragedy.
Where a voice and a falsetto are one/ Jeff Lynne brought out a "little more." I can see why Lynne was so fascinated because their styles have some cross-over
It's weird, but I keep forgetting that Tom Petty died. His last album and a few before it, seemed to have been statements about the small hat forces that controlled the entertainment biz.
