This was the only video i found that showed how to remove and reinstall the handle. Replacement handles ranged from $10 black plastic ones to >$200 Canadian for a special order discontinued OEM in factory color from a Honda dealer in Toronto (not sure they could really get it though). A parts place in Japan could not get one either. I got lucky and was able to epoxy the knurled metal pivot pin into the cracked plastic cylinder and reused it.
Just remove it bro. Gotta love youtube logic. Fail to record the only reason anyone clicked on the video for in the 1st place. Really tho just use a flathead while u keep tension on that lock rod, get one tab opened then the other.
@@peenusweenus3169 LOL yeah. In case it's relevant to anyone else with this question- I used a flathead like you suggested but I made sure it was as close to the size of the rod as I could without it being smaller. That way you don't put any more strain on that clip than you absolutely have to to get the rod out. These old plastics makes anyone nervous (I also have worked on 1980 motorcycles) You just got to go for it. I felt like mine was going to break but it was okay.
@@danielkenway2413 not shitting on u in particular or anything. Its just the youtube way to not show the exact detail you're looking for, it never fails. Actually one of the best videos for the handles.
Just remove the clamp from the key cylinder ( so the hole piece stays together) then just push the cylinder into the new door handle and put the clamp to lock it
@@peenusweenus3169 he's right I forgot to film that important part of the video. But yes I also used a flathead screw driver. I just now got back to this channel after 2 years and saw these comments. I'll get better showing more in detail!
Yeah thats what i was afraid off. O.G original trying to keep my handles. The painted ones . I think i can hood rig mine sense the handle fine just the plastic retainer thing that holds that metal spring clip thing of a bob. Thanks this vid been helpful
