Émile Delahaye was initially an employee and from 1879 or 1887 the owner of a small foundry in Tours. The production of gas engines was added in 1882. In 1894, experiments with automobiles began. In 1895, production began under the name Delahaye. The company name at this time is known as Émile Delahaye, Ingénieur-Constructeur.
