Ah, ik heb hier gestudeerd. Als buitenlander vind ik het echt een bijzondere stad en nu maken deze beelden van vroeger het nog meer bijzondere. Ik ben weer verhuisd naar Delft. Zo blij.
I am one of those citizens and let me tell you, nobody likes what has happened here the last 150 years. The disappearance of the St. Hippolytuschurch, the northern canal and the city gates is such a shame. (City board calls this progress, but actually they just couldn't afford to pay for all these monuments) They now want to build an officebuilding made out of glass in between the old city and an 19th century quarter. It's so tasteless. I'm happy we can still see this footage.
The building is already there by now. I am another Delft citizen. The entire city is slowly being ruined with glass cube buildings. the entire area around the train station has been raped to death. It looks nothing like the surroundings. A modernist scar in an otherwise beautiful place. It saddens me to see my city slowly crumble and be replaced with glass and steel. No soul, all trash commercialism
@@EpreTroll What is this kind of doom thinking? Although the old station was lovely, the buildings around it were pure trash. The self-designed buildings that are rising there now are way better. Compare that to the social rent buildings that replaced neglected medieval houses they ruined parts of the city center with in the 70s and 80s. Except the student hotel/social hub of course, butt-ugly building. In the 90s there were cars everywhere in the city center as well. They finally made the Grote Markt a no-car zone.
0:42 trein op de lage baan bij de Binnenwatersloot. Tussen 1890 en 1905 was hier een halte voor de trein. Het seinhuis is zichtbaar. Pas in 1965 werd de hoge baan in gebruik genomen. 0:57 stoomtrams in het Kalverbos. Gefilmd vanuit de stoom🌫tram. We rijden even mee, Delft uit. Naar de oude Reineveldbrug, die op een andere plaats lag en laag en zéér krap was. Om 1:12 rijden we vanaf het Noordeinde langs Hotel Wilhelmina naar het Kalverbos.
Delft has some very nice places. But when I see this (and some other old pictures from the 1950ties) I am stunned. What on earth happened to this city. Why did you citizens from Delft want to restructure the city that dramaticly? I really don't understand.
People were so much better dressed back then, and everything looks more tidy.. Compared to the trash that roams the streets these days, this looks like a ball.
Life back then was shit compared to today. Fashion/dress standards might've been higher back then compared to today, but life wasn't nearly as comfortable back then as it is nowadays. If you were a completely average person that is. Let's see: the bed you'd have slept in wasn't nearly as comfortable, because foam from non-natural sources wouldn't be invented until 1937 (Otto Bayer, polyurethane) and it wasn't until after WWII until people realised it's potential uses. Natural foam in mattresses was only for the wealthiest among us, and not necessarily the most comfortable option either. Oh yeah the streets might look clean and tidy, but it's easy to pick the most flattering shots/angles because virtually nobody else owns a video camera, nobody outside of Delft would know better. And let's not ignore the fact that in the early 20th century Delft's canals would basically be open sewers by modern standards, because the Dutch government only started to give somewhat of a shit (pun intended) about public sanitation in the 1890's but the vast majority of people still used buckets as toilets until at least the 1930's. Yeah Delft's canals might look clean here, but that's because everyone and their mothers dumped all their waste and crap in the canals. The smell must've been horrible. Luckily smell-o-vision is just as far away now as it was back then. And let's not forget about dying from (nowadays) easily preventable diseases. Antibiotics hadn't been invented yet, and vaccination wasn't commonplace yet either. Common infections were hard to cure, and things like cancer were next to impossible. There's a reason millions of people died from the Spanish flu just years earlier. I could go on and on, but other than the aesthetics there wasn't much in life back then that was better than modern life.
Volgens mijn bescheiden mening is dit filmpje van voor de eerste wereldoorlog, tien jaar ouder dus en daarom ook zeldzamer. Ik zie geen enkele auto en wel mode van voor de eerste wereldoorlog. Volgens mij rijdt ook de paardentram nog
De paardentram werd al in 1877 vervangen door de stoomtram. En die werd weer vervangen door de elektrische tram in 1924. We zien hier dus de stoomtram, waarschijnlijk in zijn laatste jaar, 1923.
