@@rrondo45 I was raised with making cornbread with Buttermilk only way to go there is also a buttermilk cake my grandmother would make and it delicious she would make them for her friends
@@anmcox4068 Buttermilk is excellent is a lot of baked goods. I recently made a vanilla buttermilk cake on my RU-vid channel, and 2 of my subscribers have already made it--and they both loved it. Buttermilk doesn't make it sour, either...just light and fluffy.
I just turned 24, and I’m a male. I’m about to do my second thanksgiving dinner this year. Last year I watched your video and I was super nervous because although I always helped out with holiday dinners I never made an entire dinner up until 2018. But everything tasted just like my moms and grandmas food. Thanksgiving is basically soul food at least for my family. It’s one of those things where you don’t need to be a professional to make or be precise with all the measurements, and as a culinary student we’re taught that every little thing matters, but soul food you have a little more room for mistakes. it really comes from the heart. Your tastings are your buddy. We make our cornbread similar. I use Mrs. Cubbisons dressing bread crumbs and make my own cornbread from scratch. I like to make the cornbread about a day or two in advanced because drier breads easily absorb juices and flavor a bit more better than fresh.
I always cook fro. Scratch thats the only way that my late mama taught me at age of 12 yrs she alway would say make your cornbread couple before holiday and that dress was soooooo damn delicious i would shredded my chicken it was a whole Perdue chicken well as cut up my gizzards an added to the mixture 2 she taught me to let my bread my right lower for 3 yet get dried out then crumble it up into cornbread mix and it tastes really good. That was best everrrrrrrr dressing i made. I been making it every year since i was 12 yrs old. Some time two or three times a year for gathering and parties.i love it the more because Thanksgiving day is my late Queen mama birthday..she been gone 11 yrs now. And im 58 yrs old. I still REMEMBER what she taught me.
Your dressing looks so good, golden brown, not over saged (too green) and not heavy. Just right on the money!!! Bless your heart for making this, Gina, your dressing is beautiful. I love that you made it with chicken ~~~ Amazing!!
Omg Gina, this looks so good. Your back for redemption baby, girl i laugh when you said that. I love your spirit so much. You get me all excited also. I love all your recipes. God bless you and your family😘
Hi Gina, Although this is my first time commenting, I’ve been a fan for about 2 years . I enjoy your recipes and your spirit! Thank you for allowing us to share your recipes and welcoming us into your home. God bless you and your family.
Gina you have some amazing recipes. Keep doing what you do! My dressing I make a pan of corn bread of course but I never use any bag corn bread or croutons from the store. I use loaves of different types of bread; white and butter no wheat. I either break them up or ground them in the processor. My dressing is amazing. And I never mix any meat with my dressing until the day or two afterwards.
Gina I so Love All your recipes. This recipe will be made this Thanksgiving. Thank You Mrs. Gina for your time and giving us your recipes. Not to mention I enjoy your spirit. I wish you and your family a Beautiful Holiday...💜💜
I have been watching your videos for days now, Today I finally seen a face to go with that down home voice(love it). Ms. Gina Thanksgiving is weeks away and I always wanted to do something special for stuffing, Ms. Gina baby girl... your recipe is perfect. I also will be doing the Turkey with that sauce...I can't wait. Big fan over here Ms. Gina...thank you for sharing your recipes, keep them recipes coming!!!!!!
My mother never used sugar but it's not that serious you guys are ridiculous sometimes and it wasn't enough sugar to make the cornbread sweet y'all always think y'all the best cooks ugh
My mother never added the sugar to the cornbread but she did use butter milk. And she was like Gina she wanted it cooked the night before. We also add finely chopped bell pepper and green onions as well as yellow onion and celery all finely chopped and sauted to the cooked cornbread. She made her chicken broth from scratch as well using the chicken, She made a separate broth from chicken livers and giblets. She added finely chopped giblets and liver to the dressings. And that poultry season and sage got to have it as well as the other seasonings. People always referred to her dressing as that good dark dressing the liver gave it a rich flavor and darkened the dressing a little. She did not use a large amount of the liver, people fought over her dressing at holiday family pot lucks. Some times she made a spicy version of her dressing and the regular version but it was always all gone. I have tasted good light colored dressing the color of cornbread like my mother in laws but I refer to it as cornbread salad it's good has chicken in it canned chicken broth and cream of mushroom soup but not meaty like dark dressings good but not as rich with protein and her veggies are cut larger like these.
Homemade cornbread dressing from scratch is the only dressing I know of to make. My mother did it from scratch making her own cornbread, not Jiffy. Happy Holidays everyone.
Carolyn Montgomery I have struggled with homemade dressing for yrs. I like cornbread made from scratch n all the juice off turkey in there. It just never comes out like my grandma
I agree! I made it with the Jiffy as well, last year and they ate it all. I did Gina’s Jiffy cornbread, smoke turkey wings broth and bread croutons recipe and it was good. I was thinking of trying the cornbread. One person said she don’t like the sweetness of Jiffy, but most of the homemade cornbread recipes add sugar. And I truly think that the little sweetness added a kick to the flavor from just that hard corny taste that is in some dressing. I guess whatever I decide this year will be good and a blessing. Thanks Gina! Love your spirit and recipes.
Ohhh yeah!!! My favorite person in the world!! I can't wait to make this thanks Ms Gina😍 and I'm sure you hear this All the time, you look like Actress Regina Hall🙂💞
Eugenia James lol 😆 I can get loud when I was in high school I was a cheerleader and they said louder and they was like wow I didn’t know she could get that loud lol God bless thanks for watching 😊
TIP FOR CHOPPING ONIONS TO AVOID THE BURN AND 😢 : Chop onions near an gas stove or near a burning candle (USE EXTREME CAUTION). Doing this at a safe distance (8 - 10 inches) will heat burn the gases that burn our eyes and make us cry before the gases have the opportunity to reach them! YOU WILL NEVER SUFFER AGAIN! 💯😊
Gina I watch a lot of different cooks on RU-vid but they recipes are always hit or miss, but yours! You haven't failed me yet. Please do one for a crab leg boil, I followed someone else's and it was less than average I know yours will be bomb.
Whoever hating on the 1st cornbread dressing recipe is CRAZY lol I loved it and just shared it with a friend so she can have a simple holiday recipe...
Yeah, I liked.the first cornbread dressing, anywhew, personally I like your excitement towards cooking, your prayers before and after cooking, all your instructions and recipes

MS. Gina, my mother taught me our traditional dressing for TGDay...it starts out like yours, but yours goes over the top into awesomeness (shh! don't tell her, please). I'm going to be doing version this year. That dish looks so delicious.
Gina..... that Dressing look soo good as well as all the other holiday dishes you have shared with us thank you so much for your time and recipes me and my family will eat good this Thanksgiving😁💕💕
Looks 😋 GY thanks for sharing! Next time try that Lipton onion soup mix the beef kind that'll really kick it up a notch.. but I'm sure your way is 😋 also
I have been noticing people using cream of chicken soup in making cornbread dressing, I was raised to use chicken stock from boiling gizzards, necks, hearts and whatever is left from the turkey, however I may try the cream of chicken soup....
Gina I’m an old school cook never jiffy or stovetop stuffing for dressing I don’t even use sugar I know some people do but not me I did use the cream of chicken soup last Thanksgiving and it made my dressing even better will use it this year so even old school cooks can learn new tricks
Deborah Pruitt...I agree, I learned how to make my cornbread from my grandma...she was from Americus, GA (small country southern town) she showed me how to make my cornbread from scratch using cornmeal and a loaf of bread among other ingredients in my dressing...the chicken dressing be so moist, you don’t even need cranberry sauce or gravy 😉
Carolyn Morris she made one last year published 2018. See if you can find that one. It was good too. I tried it last year and will be making it again this year.
I would have saved some of the chicken parts and some of the broth and served it over a bed of rice or I would have had some good chicken and dumplings or noodles!! The stewed chicken and broth was mighty delicious looking!🙏🏻🌻🌻
If you didn't use cast iron I would have started a revolution! Lol. Your recipe is close to my cornbread. I use andouille sausage in my dressing though anything I use cumin to my cornbread if I'm making dressing. Thanks!
I'm going to try this recipe with sage sausage. The Pepperidge farm cornbread dressing I had never used before, bc we always made a big pan of corn bread using "White" corn meal ( Aunt Jemina, Martha White etc) with turkey wings( especially if they were "Big" turkey wings) which was split by the farmer's market if your ask them.
I never made cornbread dressing I’m going to try it this year it looks so good. I do make regular filling with bread onion celery and all the spices but never used corn bread thanks Gina

Great cooking skills aside, Miss Gina is the beautiful soul that everyone would love to have as their best friend. I'm probably old enough to be her mother, but I'd still count it as a blessing if she were in my circle of friends! Her personality is infectious in the best of ways. And her family and channel subs are many fold blessed by her gift and talent in the kitchen! I love watching and relating to her cooking style as they are so very similar to my southern techniques that I learned at my mother's and grandmother's side. May our Heavenly Father continue to bless this woman, her entire family, and her continued success on YT.🙏🙌🥰
You Are So On Point With That There Dressing. I’m Not Ashamed To Say I Make Jiffy Cornbread Either. Our Family Loves It. Many, Many Thanksgiving Blessings Upon You And Family Always ❤️
