I heard a lot of people explain that this, Freiren, Bladur's Gate is making them realize they don't hate fantasy, they hate isekai. Specifically the tropey uncreative kind cuz I think they can be fun.
The characters appeared as your typical flat anime stock archetypes at first glance, the bubble-headed protagonist, the comedic relief guide, the tsundere, and the over-sheltered girl. And Kui just went BAM! Uno reversed our expectations so hard that we fell in love with them
It's so cool. I know I already said something similar in the video but some people think you have to be exact to cook and it's just not the case. Only experience makes consistently good improv dishes. I have no recipes but my family asks for them occasionally. I make one up to give them.
one of the first videos I've seen that has the same amount of joy for cooking as I do. There's something so intimate in cooking for others, and DunMeshi's understanding of that makes it so enjoyable to read and watch.
The scene of Senshi picking up Kensuke and throwing it to Laios, and then Laios catching it in the coolest way possible along with the swelling music and great voice acting make it probably my favorite scene in the show so far, I’m glad you highlighted it at the end.

Human Ranger fits Laios more, I would argue He's rocking half-plate, and his encyclopedic knowledge of animals and monsters gets them out of danger most of the time
0:36 the bit about her being a half-elf is anime spoiler. It's something you can probably pick up by paying attention but it's a plotpoint later in the manga. I'd advise bleeping it out somehow 😅

I have a bit of a "hot take" but I think Dungeon Meshi is the exact opposite of Frieren in terms of quality. Dungeon Meshi starts weak but it slowly gets better and it ends flawlessly without overstaying it's welcome. It's a neat package and well realized series. Frieren starts great, masterful even, but slowly but surely it goes into a slow tumble to mediocrity, particularly by how the manga is going.
To be honest, Frieren didn't grab me like dungeon Meshi. I thought it was cozy but didn't feel much for it beyond that. Will not be reading ahead, wasn't that attached to everyone.
Sorta funny anecdote, but I found out Dungeon Meshi from a modpack that uses the author's fanart for the Baldur's Gate Trilogy characters. I think she's pretty cool
As a fellow autism, laios is 110% the most autistic and i love him so so much. I clocked him back when the manga was still new and it has only grown more obvious. I love all these characters and i KNEW an anime adaption would make it a mega hit, rather than a cult hit with anime nerds like me as it had been for most of its run. I still cant believe trigger is doing it, but i knew immediately i could trust them when i heard the announcement. It had to be them or at least another studio who could do the weighty, hyper detailed nature that is so specific to ryoko kui's art. I cannot wait for the final arcs....its so exciting!!!!!
I'm super excited to pick up the manga once the anime is over. It's a comfort watch with meals so I wanna keep that going for a while but I'm pumped to read ahead and actually appreciate the art from the author.
The only flaw i see is that if Fallin didnt sacrifice, the group could have just retreated and regrouped, killed the dragon and resurrected laios much more faster than the way she did it, having now the handsight of the abilities everyone has, if food or risking a party wipe was the only risk i still find it more doable by that method.
Nah they were getting cooked that fight, without Falin’s support there would have been a few extra casualties at least. Remember, Shuro and Namari are the only real competent head-on fighters in the squad: marcille only knows one offensive spell (that isn’t very usefull against the dragon) and laios is way weaker than them in the actual combat department, he’s just goated for his monster trivia. Also they were all tired from a lack of food and even if Laios could’ve somehow convinced the gang to eat monsters, there were almost none in that area. But most importantly, falin didn’t really care she just saw her friends in danger and got them out of it
@@jcp1296 that is why laios dying instead of falling woukd had been better, they would have regrouped and taken the dragon easierly, have you listened to anything i said in the previous post or were you complaining just cause...
@@TheSUGA1202 no that’s what I’m saying their ass was not beating that dragon in the state they were in Falin just reduced the number of casualties. Also no one on deck except falin even really liked Laios that much so they prolly would’ve just left him if he got eaten lmao
It's nice to see someone who actually appreciate genuinely great fantasies like DunMeshi. This show got shit on upon release because people didn't like the slow and episodic approach of the first few episodes. Meanwhile, trashy self-insert powerfantasies like SL gets praised every damn time for very shallow reasons.
I'm not tuned in to the anime/manga reviewer part of RU-vid so I had no idea it wasn't popular at first! Kinda shocking cuz it does what it wants to so well. It started out as a comfort watch to eat with every week but now it's a lowkey obsession. I'm holding myself back from reading to watch the anime with my partner because its amazing. When they're done releasing this batch of episodes Imma read.

I think that's fair if you're used to the action of the others. The detail really does something for me in world building and gets me thinking about other adventurers, other dungeons, and the countless stories that could spawn from this setting. It does a lot for me to make up for a lack of consistent action. I'm also super into cooking so I was into the premise from the jump. I do think it takes a turn that I don't entirely know about considering Fujimoto (the chainsaw man author) highly recommended it. Looking forward to what's next tho.
@@bigfreakinfrog I look forward to seeing what you think of where it goes! It definitely lives up to that recommendation but in my opinion it retains its emotional core and upbeat attitude even as things plunge into darker territory.
(Minor spoilers) My favorite aspect of this anime is Laios’s very …autism flavored behaviors. I know literally a dozen hundred people have said this in other circles but this guy has outgoing autism down to the T. It’s crazy to me how autistic you can make a character most likely unintentionally, as I’ve never seen the mangaka mention it specifically, but it’s still a wonderful thing to see in anime.
I felt that. I kinda wanted to avoid pointing it out because I don't exactly know the experience of having that. It definitely kept gnawing at me while I watched tho; also with the recent episodes and his tendency to misread, miscommunication, or find less interest in actual people. It really reminded me of people I know.
