This lovely little video is full of harmony - the harmony of Delius's lovely music, the harmonious use of colour and form in these beautiful paintings and the way the music and image complement each other in complete harmony, with never a jarring note.
Thank you for posting Richard. A wonderful evocation of time and place. So many lovely images esp by Sir John Lavery. He must have been a frequent visitor!
Who knew?! As an ordinary Joe Blow, I thought I was at least aware of most of the geographical haunts of the Impressionist era artists. But thanks to Richard Lewis, I have been introduced to another village that attracted so many painters, photographers and composer, Delius. Now I have to add Grez to my bucket list and I'm off to Google to find where it is in France.
Thank you so much, Richard. Always been a big Delius fan..the old bugger.. Didn`t know so much about the painters. Thank you for putting together this labour of love.
Lovely selection. It doesn't include my favourite painting of the bridge, The Bridge at Grez-sur-Loing by Roderick O Connor. Currently on loan to the National Gallery of Ireland, and definitely worth a trip to the NG if you're in Dublin
This piece sounds like the evocations that we are used to hear under Delius' pen: non fonctional or specific chain of harmonies, typical long and seamless melodies, delicate orchestration, a touch of melancholy in a bucolic universe......... ........
I don't agree. There is an inner tone of sadness and yearning in almost every work by Delius. It's true that Nature and her many revelations of beauty are a constant source of consolation and serenity but it's that peculiar , highly poetic, melange of emotions that makes Delius' music so unique.
Yes there is a sadness in a lot of Delius's music. It has been attributed to some sad events in his life. There is a fascinating video on this subject which can be found on RU-vid: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0RocX8MvqcE.html
