Deliverance Mass Choir - Intro 

Deliverance Mass Choir (DMC), was established on the campus of Andrews University in 1995 by Dr. Carlton P. Byrd, then a student at the seminary. DMC was created from a need to serve the black students on campus: students coming from church contexts that engaged in call-and-response, clapping, and celebration. And while these students were enriched in all that Andrews had to offer, their worship and music at times seemed to be suppressed. Drawing on the musical diversity embedded within the African-American experience DMC sought to cater to a specific group on campus as well as to educate others not so familiar with African-American spirituality. Since then, hundreds of students have passed through the ranks of DMC, complementing their Andrews experience with the Deliverance experience. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, professors, architects, administrators, pastors, entrepreneur, nurses, counselors and so many other professionals have been blessed to be a part of the ministry of DMC, and though they no longer minister with DMC, these alums continue to draw from their time in the choir to serve their local congregations and communities around the world.
