As a trucker if there's one thing I'll never do is touch another companies trucks or their trailers to avoid the liability
@Unknown_Ooh
@Unknown_Ooh 2 года назад
One of my friends who delivered for Lowe's had unloaded a local building supply company's trailer after his because they couldn't get their forklift running and once he was done with both trucks and got back to Lowe's his manager had gotten several calls about the other company's trailer being messed up. He got written up for it but it was found out the damage done to the other trailer was old damage and was rusted over so it turned out that it couldn't have been him.

I used to deliver materials for a lumber yard while going to college. Several times I was asked to "do a favor" for a contractor. Each and every time I would reply "No, I can't. It is not my equipment". You see, boss (the owner of the lumber yard) explained to me when I started; the equipment is his and he is responsible for what happens when it is used. So, if I am doing a "favor" and something happens, just who will be held responsible; my boss. So, no, a hundred bucks as a "favor" is not worth that degree of risk.

Contractors are all like that, and he would would have paid $20 at the most to unload that other truck. They're also good at saying, "There are men out at the job site to unload." When you get there, there is no one and no equipment. This is commonly done to smaller companies, the contractor expects the driver, and if he has a helper, to hand unload and stack. Bigger companies like Home Depot have "curbside service only" polices.

You just have to ask yourself one question are you a) an independent contractor/truck driver or b) do you work for the lumber yard. If A then no problem your insurance will cover your liability and I would charge them either cash with a receipt or I would be happy to invoice you (min $200). If B then there is ZERO chance of me doing that because insurance won't cover any accident making me liable for everything and if employer finds out I can lose my job so its not worth it.

Most shippers REQUIRE disclosure if they need assistance. I'm a mechanic. Any large items I've had delivered personally they ask if they need to provide a forklift, which is extra fee. They have them, but they tend to be a more expensive delivery, as they tend to be smaller trucks and the receiver has to have people at the site to hand unload the material. Also common for asphalt shingle delivery to the roof. You just aren't going to get that kind of service from the big box store. I'm sure they could be separately contacted to pick up from the big box store, but more common with delivery from custom stores, e.g. a roofing material store would have equipment to deliver roofing material to the roof.

That contractor really dropped the ball, no lift for that fat ass truck. Even if I had the time I dont think I would bother with a whole truck. Maybe if it was just a few units or so

@@lordBritish1 there is almost always a price where it is worth the risk. If there wasnt then no one would be in business. Even with insurance, when doing the job your insured to do, you're still taking a risk

You know the road is narrow when they can’t afford the space to paint down 2 yellow lines.
@rapman5363
@rapman5363 2 года назад
The number of lines painted in a road are there for specific reasons. It has nothing to do with money. There are single yellow,double yellow, etc.....depending on the size of road,speed traveled on the road and traffic flow and amount of traffic as well. It’s all documented in DOT publications that are uniform from state to state.
