We successfully delivered part of a steel beam from the World Trade Center south tower to the airport in Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, our gift to the people who stepped up and performed their own acts of courage for us on 9/11.
Watch the amazing 1500 mile journey!

I know this is years later, but I want all the residents of Gander to know how much this American loves you. You took in our people....way more than you could handle...and opened your arms, your homes, and your town to those passengers. I know there were more than just Americans on those planes, and you knew people needed help and you were the closest to them.THANK YOU. Canada deserved to be the first to receive a piece of that day.

Newfoundland is the first place outside the United States to share the steel from the World Trade Center.

was privileged enough to be in Gander a few years back and saw this steel. It's all about people. As Canadians and Americans we are lucky to have one of the best most caring relationship than any other 2 countries in the world.

The days, weeks, and months after 9/11 were horrible, but at the same time, amazing as well. Even as far away as Norway, people held up signs saying "Today We Are All USA". Every American put their differences aside and became one group- Americans. It saddens me that it took an event like 9/11 to bring us together. Unfortunately, now, we're as divided as a nation can be. Most Americans know about the kindness of Gander. When are we as human beings going to realize we can do so much more together? Anyway, thank you Canada.

It’s like the saying, “don’t take the generosity of others as a sign of weakness” especially that of Canadians, I read history, Canadians fighting in WW1 I don’t have to explain to you why, I’m sure you know that history well

Wow… that is one hell of a long drive, I can’t believe you guys drove all the way to Gander, that’s absolutely incredible! As a Canadian, I know the people with gander helped you guys, but you also helped us, by sharing your stories to people all over this world, I reminded everyone love and kindness are still in abundance at countless places all over this world. And it’s very true, we know you would do the same for us, this isn’t a story I have one towns kindness, it’s a story of humanity, and how when it comes right down to it, we are still all there for each other no matter what, and I’m forever grateful that the story lives on. I have spent all of my 52 years here in Toronto, I’ve never even been to Newfoundland until after this happened, but I just had to go see for myself, and everything you saw it’s 100% accurate, these people are absolutely incredible, they’re not tainted by all the horror in this world, quite the opposite, they encourage all the goodness in this world, I just wish there were more places like that, because living in a big city, you would never be treated like that, if you say hi to a stranger on the street here, they call the police out of fear! I guess there is something to be said for living in a small town, and it just makes me so proud to be Canadian. So a huge thank you to everyone on those planes, for helping stern one of the worst tragedies in the world into one of the best stories of human kindness❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I'm from Fort McMurray. Newfoundlands third largest city. There is nowhere I'd like to be stranded more than Newfoundland. It would have been crazy but I would have been happy to be on a plane sent there.

If you read The Day The World Came to Town, the parents of a FDNY firefighter was stranded in Gander. A beautiful wonderful woman named Buell Cooper, help the parents as much as she could! The parents actually flew back to Ireland, where they went on vacation, then got back to NY. About two weeks later, they found out their son, Kevin O'Rourke, had died at the WTC.

Did you see those bikes that were fire engine red? Those were Harley's. Harley Davidson makes a special edition fire fighter model that is that specific color of red and you have to be a fire fighter to purchase one (from a dealer).
