The Dell EMC PowerEdge R640, which is a high-density, 1U platform that supports one or two Intel Xeon Scalable processors. This platform is designed for scale-out data center applications. System Administrators also have options with preconfigured nodes that can be deployed for ScaleIO and VSAN, a core building block for the software-defined data center.
Some of the new features on this system include support for more NVMe direct-attached drives to reduce latency. Support for NVDIMM modules for resilience, improvements to security and management with iDRAC9 and QuickSync. And of course, Intel’s new Scalable processors delivering faster processing, plus support for more memory channels and faster memory modules. There’s more, but we’ll get to that…

I believe TPM stands for Trusted Platform Module, not tamper proof module but who can keep track of all the acronyms.

HI Jeremy, Yes, it does. "A Tamper Proof Module"! What the hell was I thinking! Thanks for watching!

Hi Rhey, No, not by default, it is an optional part. Hi again, can we install SD card for esxi, what SD card do you recommend to work with RT6JG?.. Additionally we want to install 8 x 2.4TB SAS on drive bays to achieve 16TB storage, is this possible? Also, we currently have 16GB x 4 (DDR4 - 2666) and 1 Silver 4211 CPU, planning to add 1 more processor and 20 additional 16GB memory modules? Please let me know if these options are possible.

Hi there! To start here are a few links, one to our landing page for the Dell R640 which does have a few references (Documentation tab…) for this system. www.itcreations.com/dell/dell-poweredge-r640-server.asp www.itcreations.com/user-manuals/r640/dell-poweredge-r640-technical-specifications.pdf Regarding your questions, It will take a 16, 32, or 64GB Micro SDHC/SDXC card module and we do have that in stock here and we do price match. www.itcreations.com/product/97311 As far as the other stuff is concerned, I do not see any limitations on the drive capacities listed in the Technical guide, page 8-9, so you are good there. Regarding memory - 4x 16GB total now + 20x more = 384GB. Technical Guide page 8 says 384GB supported (easily…). BTW, we have all of this hardware. Contact our sales team directly for specific parts requests and keep in mind we do price match. sales@itcreations.com Thanks for watching!

Hi, it is possible to use more than 3 nVME drives without buying uber-expensive dell drives to have access to the nVME chassis? or even with some kind of adapter for pciE ports?
@Itcreations-LA

Hi Juan Carlos, yes there are other options for M.2 drives in a quad drive like that offered by ASUS (Bifurcation of PCIe lanes is supported on the R640) and other options for front-mounted NVMe drives. Give us a call and talk to Andrea he is very familiar with the system and can not only advise you but most likey provide what yuou need at a great price. 800.237.0402 or sales@itcreations.com, subject: Attn: Andrea regarding R640 NVMe drives. thanks for watching!

If you don't fill it with drives, does it at least come with the caddies so you can add your own later?

Hi Glenn, If you purchase from the manufacturer or a reputable hardware redistributor, like IT Creations, then they will usually send the system with the drive trays included. The drive trays are also essential for cooling and should be in place even when not loaded with drives. Although, since this is an older system and if you are considering purchasing one of these that could potentially be used then just make sure you ask if the drive trays are included. We will be posting a review of the Dell 7820 in just a few hours, check it out as it is in direct competition with HP's Z6 G4 which is the next generation up from the Z640. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

@@Itcreations-LA Hi both, if a slot is not populated, it will contain a blank, which is not the same as a caddy. The caddies are not sold separately. Not from Dell at least ;)
@Itcreations-LA
@Itcreations-LA 5 лет назад
@@mynciboiV8 and Gee Bee , We do indeed sell these separately. They are expensive as a result of supply and demand, unfortunately. That said, it is an option that should be ordered with the unit to get the best pricing. And yes you can purchase the two part 3.5-inch tray form factor that includes the pop-out caddy where the M.2 resides, separately without the M.2 drive and add one later. Here is a link: www.itcreations.com/view_product.asp?product_id=105595 Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

To get the caddies from dell you have to buy them with a disk. A 3rd party will either have taken them off a disk (possibly failed disks) or will be non-Dell parts. It is unlikely these will be Dell products otherwise and could be complications for support. Also check the disks you put in are supported by Dell. iDrac will not report on wear or failure issues etc. Just know what you are getting into...

@@mynciboiV8+ Gee Bee We do have the real deal. Dell M.2 Caddies for the front of the system, here: www.itcreations.com/catalog.asp?s_s=dell+flex+bay+module+ Does not include an M.2 module but we do sell those too if you want to purchase at the same time. Thanks for watching.
