1440p budget monitors have come a long way! I like this way better than the more expensive MSI MAG274QRF-QD i ran before. A USB-C port with 90W of power delivery would put this in S-Tier category!
Got it today. Unfortunately, lot of backlight bleed and massive IPS glow. I'd recommend buying from a store with a good return policy so that you won't be stuck with a lemon.
Thank you for this review. This is an amazing budget 1440p monitor and one of the best options to use with a ps5. Supports VRR on ps5, excellent response times at 120hz and 60hz, good contrast for an IPS, good brightness. Goes on sale regularly for $300 CAD. You'll spend double that if you want 4K. Biggest downside is no audio jack, so you can't hook speakers to it. You can just use a headset on ps5 though.
Seeing unconfirmed reports online and in the Rtings review discussion thread that indicate some people are buying this monitor and receiving an inferior product (more than the expected panel to panel variance), perhaps due to panel swaps in different regions or in later manufacture runs? Can you look into this? If someone is purchasing this monitor on the strength of your review and it doesn't come with the same panel so has completely different characteristics...
I think you monitor reviews should also include information about low-resolution content and sub-1080p upscaling (480p, 720p...). You already do it for TVs.
Noted, thanks for the feedback! We actually compile all the suggestions we get and revisit them when we work on test bench updates. So we’ll definitely keep this in mind!
I'm heavily considering buying this monitor, but I watch a lot of 480p-1080p anime and I'm worried that the jump from my 1080p LCD to it will be a mixed bags? Any thoughts on that?
Hey, I recently picked up this monitor and was wondering if I should leave “smart hdr” on. I will not be using hdr but when you tested this monitor were you using smart hdr?

This should take the place of the LG 27GP850 as the recommended budget friendly 27 inchi 1440p monitor. It's just better than the 27GP850 and it's better than the M27Q. The only reason I found out about this monitor is because the 27GP850 that everybody recommends went out of stock the day I wanted to buy it, so naturally I went on rtings recommended monitors article and found this as an alternative to the M27Q. It honestly should be the other way around since this monitor beats the M27Q in every regard and is cheaper than both the LG and the Gigabyte.
I bought this model, and I can only say that it has an excellent image and uniformity. I love the semi-gloss coating, it greatly increases clarity. It doesn't cause headaches or eye strain, it's so good that I bought a 2 unit. Use for games and office. Better only going for an OLED, but I bought it at an excellent price for having a company.
@@hannes6114 Yes they are, colours are great, i have reduce the saturation on mine s to 85% with AMD software, and blacks are good for IPS panel can reach 1400:1 contrast.
I just got one and it's a great monitor but coming from VA panel for a long time (been using curved monitors) the IPS glow will take some getting used to.
I think 1440p displays, and the GPU power to drive them, are still too expensive to be called 'entry level gaming' without qualification. 'Entry Level 1440p' would be a better title.
Hi!What IPS panel is your G2724D using?I ask this because some people that bought this model for the decent (for an IPS) contrast ratio were a bit disappointed to find out that the contrast is much lower (below 1000:1) on their units than the reported 1400:1.Lower brightness as well.I suspect that Dell may be using more than one panel. The AUO M270DAN08.C has been confirmed as one of the panels being used.Thank you.
I would like to know, I am contemplating buying this monitor and the high contrast ratio was one of my reasons for considering it, I have a VA panel right now with ~4000:1 contrast and I really wanna get as good as I can get contrast wise for an IPS. I think I would rather have the curved model with the VA panel but that one is much more expensive right now.
I bought this monitor a few months ago for Xbox gaming and office work. It has been amazing on all fronts. I got it for $275 on sale. I'm disappointed in the HDR but again... It was only $275. Over A++ for me.
I got this monitor, the only small downer for me is the dark in dark rooms. Beside that, its an amazing monitor! So now i play with light in my room haah! :D Will say is only in very dark games, like Hell let loose.
@@immortalplays4834your better off spending a few more bucks to get a monitor that looks great in the dark. they have some in their site just look at something with at least 7.5 rating in dark rooms
I was interested in getting a new monitor and since a major retailer here has a big sale and my birthday is tomorrow, i decided that its a good time to get me a present. My instinct said that this one seemed like a good choice for the price and this review confirms it.
Finally, been waiting for the RU-vid review after reading the website's comparison with the Dell S2721DGF. I was in love with the S2721DGF and I think I'm going to buy the G2724D over the Gigabyte M27Q
Translation: The best monitor for gaming and desktop use for most people and one of the cheapest, on top of it its from teh famous TOP brand DELL. 10/10. I am buying one tomorrow.
@cc-fz5ne unless you get into the service menu and increase max brightness that boosts contrast, EU models have a lower max brightness so you have to do this to get best results
Thanks for your video, man. You helped he choose the Dell G2724D. Got it last week 😁 It's PERFECT for the PS5 using Console Mode. The Adaptive Sync is flawless! However, you'll need an Ultra Fast HDMI cable ($16), as the original PS5 HDMI cable didn't work for VRR at 1440p. Forget about 4K, 1440p will be the sweet spot for years to come. Assembly is easy peasy. It looks awesome! I paid only CAD $229. Totally RECOMMEND it. 👍
Thanks for the review! Do you know if VRR works if this monitor daisy chained from a DP 1.4 monitor with a displayport out? Such as from a U2722DE or a U2723QE
I'm very pleased with it. The picture quality is great, brightness is excellent. The stand is very solid and sturdy. I think they hit the sweet spot on the screen coating. Would buy again without hesitation.@@GagnonGaming88
Really interesting to see this review :D Got this a while ago to replace the LG 27GP850 for gaming Happy with the decision for sure, the contrast and IPS glow on the LG monitor were a disaster. This actually makes games look nice enough to enjoy the visuals and the contrast helps with target acquisition in competitive play. Having it next to a Dell U3223QE for console gaming, office work and media consumption, works well. They compliment each other beautifully. G2724D = Shooters / competitive on pc U3223QE = Used for story games and such. Find the slow response time makes 60hz and lower look more smooth than on a fast display which helps with the type of console gaming I do and video playback.
@@6kie4 Image quality wise the Dell is an instant winner over the LG screen. Though, it does lack some connectivity over the LG screen. Image quality: Dell Competitive gaming performance: Similar, though, I do find it easier to spot enemies far away on the Dell screen depending on the game. Features: LG
@@UwU-hg8dj There is quite a difference though it is not magic. Like, contrast is better on the U3223QE and so is the IPS glow, it's much better. Contrast is not better like a good VA panel would give you and IPS glow still exists. it's just a lot less noticeable. It is good enough to enjoy really dark scenes though. It's like.. most of the downsides of IPS are mitigated to a point where it works where IPS normally would not.
Hello RTINGS!! Greetings from Brazil! Thanks for your awesome reviews! I really appreciate your job!! Guys, I have a question: here in Brazil we do not have so many different monitors, some nice monitors do not come to Brazil. I am looking for a QHD gaming monitor, and the prices of Dell S3422DWG and Alienware AW2724DM are very similar, but the black smearing and ghosting of VA panel worry me as well as the local dimming and black looking gray in the Alienware IPS panel. So, what would you recommend to me knowing that I am a casual gamer and I use the computer for gaming 80% of time, but I also use the monitor for home studying and media consumption? Thank your attention guys and sorry for any Ensligh mistakes :D

hey, not sure if you got the monitor or not but I have a similar monitor (dell s2722dgm) and its a VA panel. ITs cost £249 got pretty bad ghosting/ black smearing so I'm returning it and switching back to the g2724d as IPS is faster for games. Don't worry about media consumption, most monitors do all of it pretty easily as colour contrast is normally 1000:1 these days.
heyy mate, thanks for sharing your review. I got the S3422DWG which is also a VA panel, but there is no ips glow, the color accuracy after calibrate it looks awesome. It has a little black smearing and ghosting but for my casual gaming use it is going pretty good. I have made an ambilight for it, and the immersion is amazing. Here in Brazil we don't have so many monitors available to buy, and the price is always high because of the current here, so many taxes and fees, but I am very happy with my purchase! @@maxwright1144

Hi! Great review and amazing work as always! I just wondering if it has the same (very good) refresh rate, input lag, ghosting and brightness while playing on a console? (Especially on a ps5.) Because the "downscaled 4k image" and the "console mode" scared me a bit. I'm scared because maybe the console mode or the downscaled image is bad for the image quality or for the brightness or the refresh rate or the ghosting or something.. So please say that it is just as good for a ps5 as for a pc and I just buy it at this moment! Thanks for the video and for the effort!

Hello, i was wondering if someone can help me with a solution. I use a pc, laptop and ps5. My main issue is sound or speaker solution since it doesnt have speaker or usb. Do i have no choice other than to plug my headset to whatever computer i am using at that time? I really like this monitor because if the price, 3 year warranty and hdmi 2.1 for vrr on console.
I use DisplayPort and for some reason I only see "G-Sync Compatible" in the NVIDIA Control Panel and (according to NVIDIA Inspector overlay) in-game VRR being fully enabled when in HDR mode. With HDR disabled, I only see the NVCP "G-Sync" options but no "G-Sync Compatible" and the in-game (NVIDIA Inspector) VRR overlay shows "VRR Possible: NO" , "VRR Requested: NO" Does this mean "G-Sync" can only be used when putting the monitor in HDR mode? :#
How do you even play ps5 on this monitor if there’s no speaker built in or audio jack for me to insert my external speaker… It’s like you play using the monitor and the game but there’s no sound at all… like how to get the audio works
Mine works well with ps5 1440p 120hz and VRR, only downside is the near perfcet sRGB mode only works with PCs but not PS5 console mode. Can some one show me how to adjust the ps5 RBG on this monitor.

@doomsday5286 I have one also I fixed my issue by going into service mode and upping max brightness from 180 to 255, I'm in EU I think they cap max brightness due to power consumption. Since I have done this the screen is really bright and contrast is closer to 1:1200 instead of 1:900
Is it possible to run HFR mode on PS5 with this monitor? Or is this feature locked behind HDMI 2.1? Asking cause i just bought it, i can run 120hz on supported PS5 titles, but cant get HFR mode to work. Ty in advace for info
My MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD recently died 6 months out of warranty. I got this Dell as a replacement and I'm not disappointed to say the least. You can't go wrong at this price point, the monitor is legit.
@@enquiem3051 this! Got the same msi monitor and it was such a pain until they upgraded it with an SDR mode. the colors were all over the place and i hated it
Looking at upgrading from my MSI G27C6 1080p/165hz monitor which has great contrast of over 3000:1 and I've seen this monitor on sale and was wondering if it will be jarring for me to come from a VA panel to an IPS? They had the VA curved version on sale about a month ago but now it's more expensive than this one. I really don't know what to do.
