For posterity: the OptiPlex 7050 has 3x SATA ports and 1x M.2 NVMe / SATA port. To answer your question specifically, though: absolutely. You'll even end up with a spare SATA port after the installation of both of your 4TB HDDs.

Unless you want to put yourself through some serious electrical engineering hell, no video required. Just toss out the proprietary PSU and motherboard that are totally non-standard and replace with a standard ATX12V PSU and standard board. The real gem inside the Optiplex 7050's case is the processor. Everything else is pretty much either non-standard or low-end anyway. You'll find that you can't just plug a standard ATX PSU into this board directly, that it requires the construction of an adapter to handle Dell's own pin orientations and strange routing of 5v/12v leads. The board in question is definitely not worth the cost required to adapt it to a standard ATX12V power supply.

Yes, you can, although not without some hassle. The PSU and several connectors are proprietary Dell designs and, as such, will not be directly compatible with a standard ATX12V power supply unit. I believe that there are several tutorials out here that assist in the process of performing such a swap but I'd assert that it might be more practical and far less stressful to just swap out the board as well to something that's actually plug-n-play compatible with a standard ATX12V PSU. That opens tons of options for gaming boards designed for the LGA 1151 (R1) socket supporting 7th Gen Intel Core processors while gaining PCIe 4.0 capabilities, more SATA III ports, modern USB / USB-C ports, integrated wifi/bluetooth and more M.2 NVMe slots... and let's not forget more fan headers and rgb lighting capabilities. ;)

The GeForce 1650 has a maximum power draw of 75 watts, thus not requiring an external power connector. It will draw all of the power it requires from the PCIe 3.0 x16 slot into which it is installed. This is one of several optimal GPU solutions for this particular system since it would not require an upgrade to the proprietary PSU to take advantage of the performance gains it offers.

A 75 watt draw from the PCIe 3.0 x16 slot shouldn't overburden the stock PSU. Most of these low profile GPUs were designed specifically for the purpose of operating efficiently in low power scenarios such as that encountered with the OptiPlex.

It's not a straight forward swap. The problem is that the alleged "ATX" connection on Dell's board isn't actually ATX, it's proprietary Dell and so the pins on the board do not match the pins on a standard ATX PSU's connector. The swap requires building an adapter to not only reroute the pins but to also deal with Dell's non-standard routing of the 5v/12v leads. Unless you're an electrical engineer and totally into building funky one-off adapters to get around proprietary nonsense, it's advised to just obtain a new board that supports 7th Gen Intel Core processors and retire the proprietary components.

It depends on the GPU you're wanting to install. There are several varieties of "low profile" GPUs on the market that are designed exclusively to draw their power directly from the PCIe 3.0 x16 slot into which they're installed so, in that, there would be no need to attempt to swap out the non-standard proprietary PSU with something else. If, however, you're going for a higher-end GPU that requires a power connector from the PSU to function, you would have contend with the drama involved in swapping out this non-standard PSU for one that's compatible with your GPU.

I run a GTX750 in my Optiplex 7060 which has the same power supply and I have not had any problems, I think the GTX750 is about 65w power rated... I think it's close to the limits of the power supply but Dell power supplies often cope it seems.

I've had a dell optipelx 7010 with a 240 watt psu. I used it with a core i5 2400, a 95 watt cpu along with a gtx 1050 which is a 75 watt card. Worked perfectly fine on full load.

Mine runs fine with a GTX 1650 in it.

The people replying to your comment are braindead. Not all full sized cards need external power. I have a full sized dual fan RX 6400 in mine, it works fine. Low profile cards don’t always consume less power.

The Zotac 1050ti actually is a low profile GPU, requiring no more than 75 watts drawn directly from the PCIe 3.0 x16 socket to function. Implying that a standard PSU-powered GPU will just plug-n-pay directly with this system is not only incorrect but using the Zotac 1050ti as an example of this is just hilarious. :D

@Invasive _Ghosts There is unfortunately no way he/she can run a GTX 1060 on an Optiplex 7050, since the power supply does not come with a 6-pin power connector, mo/bo features a weird 6 pin main connector and Dell does not offer a more powerful PSU for this unit. The best achievable gaming upgrade is to go for a GTX 1650 for now.

That's pretty much what I'd suggest anyway since the proprietary motherboard and CPU of the Optiplex are terribly underpowered and low-end. Just ensure that your chosen mb is equipped with the requisite LGA 1151 (R1) socket that's designed exclusively for 6th and 7th Generation Intel Core processors. I only mention this because the LGA 1151 socket went through two revisions, R1 for 6th and 7th Gen processors and R2 for 8th and 9th Gen processors. R1 and R2 are not compatible due to changes in processor pinouts between these revisions.

Along with OP's valid solution, you can also use a utility like Clonezilla to clone an existing installation on another pc over to the intended 7050's system drive. This option requires you to have most, if not all, of your 7050's drivers on hand to install manually upon booting unless your cloned OS is procured from the exact same system sporting the exact same hardware. Some might say that this method borders on illegal since you're technically required to obtain a unique license for each install of Windows 10. However, we are, as of today, less than 2 years away from the official EOL date for Windows 10, after which Microsoft will no longer be providing service to or licenses for Windows 10. In effect, the OS will be deemed obsolete and useless as a retail product to Microsoft.

It's an interesting GPU, to say the least, but it is compatible with most of the specs of the Dell OptiPlex 7050. The only requirement would be a major upgrade to the PSU due to the hefty power requirements of the RTX A2000. Given that the PSU for this system is of a proprietary design and totally non-standard, such an upgrade is not very straight forward. There are also proprietary connectors powering various sensors that are non-standard to the typical ATX PSU that you would end having to contend with if you were to hypothetically swap the proprietary for a standard PSU. The good news may be in the implication that you've got a little cash to throw around for upgrades since the GPU you've chosen is about 3x more costly than the low profile variants you'd typically see plugged into and running exclusively from the PCIe 3.0 x16 slot. That particular GPU is retailing today for about $300 on Amazon. You could essentially procure yourself a different motherboard and a standard ATX12V PSU to power it all and move all your other components over to that board then all of that over to a case designed to accommodate a standard ATX PSU. This could likely be accomplished for less than $200 if opting for a 600W 80+ Bronze PSU and a mid-range quality 7th Gen LGA 1151 gaming board. Beyond that, I do recognize that you can obtain upgraded PSUs utilizing that proprietary PSU casing but you'll quickly discover that the cost of that product almost certainly justifies just going with a mobo / case / PSU swap instead.

For posterity: although sharing the same physical dimensions based on the LGA 1150 socket (4th and 5th Generations), due to the various pin layout revisions to the LGA 1151 socket line from Generations 6 and 7 to Generations 8 and 9, Generations 8/9 Intel Core processors are not compatible with LGA 1151 (R1) sockets and, likewise, Generations 6/7 Intel Core processors are not compatible with LGA 1151 (R2) sockets. It's an interesting era in which many generations of Intel Core processors would physically fit sockets from LGA 1150 through all iterations of LGA 1151, specially 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th generation Intel Core processors, but, due to the various revisions to pin layouts as power requirements increased, there is no actual compatibility between 4th/5th generation processors, 6th/7th generation processors and 8th/9th generation processors. The general standard is: LGA 1150 Socket..............................4th and 5th Generation Intel Core CPUs LGA 1151 (Revision 1) Socket.........6th and 7th Generation Intel Core CPUs LGA 1151 (Revision 2) Socket.........8th and 9th Generation Intel Core CPUs There are other socket types in the mix for various differences in cpu architecture along development of these generations but this is pretty much the gist of it Intel Core processors existing within these generations. There's also the matter of updating BIOS for motherboards specifically designed for 6th Generation processors to facilitate use of 7th Generation processors with those boards. There is, however, no means by which to force an 8th or 9th generation Intel Core processor to be recognized by a 6th or 7th generation board even though the processors, themselves, will fit the sockets. Again, even though the physical dimensions of the sockets and processors remained that similar throughout all of these generations, their pin layouts were changed enough so that they would not power up correctly outside the slightly altered sockets that were revised for their generational increases in power requirements. This makes for much confusion when searching for compatible motherboards because, unless you know exactly which revision of the LGA 1151 socket your target cpu requires, you have a 50/50 chance of achieving compatibility.

If you have a USB adapter, you'll just plug that directly into one of several of the 7050's 3.x USB ports. If you have the PCIe 3.0 x4 adapter, you'll plug that into the 7050's internal PCIe 3.0 x4 slot. Opt for the internal option. The USB wifi/bluetooth adapter is pretty much low-power garbage.

The highest you can go in upgrading the CPU is limited to 7th Generation Intel Core processors, specifically maxing out at the Core i7-7700. Remove the case cover, loosen the 4 screws holding the fan / heat sink in place, remove the fan / heat sink assembly, lift the socket lever to release the CPU, gently lift the CPU from the socket, gently install the upgrade CPU into the socket, press the socket lever back into place to lock the CPU into the socket, apply thermal paste to the top of the CPU, gently replace the fan / heat sink assembly and tighten its 4 screws then replace the case cover, done and done.

Yes and no. "Yes" if you want to either build an adapter to perform a PSU swap to a standard ATX PSU or you're okay with also swapping out the motherboard to gain the ability to directly upgrade to a standard ATX12V PSU that's required to power that GTX 1060. The "no" is reserved for anyone thinking that a standard ATX12V PSU will just swap right over without any hassles. The proprietary Dell motherboard is incompatible with standard ATX12V PSUs, unfortunately.

Correct. There are, however, PCIe 3.0 expansion cards that add more NVMe slots. Of course, there's only one PCIe 3.0 x4 slot on this board so that would eliminate the possibility of installing an internal wifi/bluetooth adapter.
