absolutely love mine! when i received it, I couldnt believe how compact it was yet it packs a hella punch.. got mine on newegg refurbished for 139.00 with a 4790 i7, 8gbram and 500gb hd... 1st thing I did when receiving it was swap in ssds, 2 for raid 0, and I added another 16gb ram for 24gb total...I run windows 10 in raid or I can boot mac os catalina, as this makes a fantastic hackintosh that runs catalina fully functional..Im on it ,in mac os right now... this little gem is tiny, powerful, quickbooting,whisper quiet and multi Operating system capable... highly recommended
Great exposition of my favorite mass produced PC since the AST Advantage 800 series from the 90's. I'm on my 3rd machine now. These Dell's really capture the utilitarian spirit of the PC.

I found this same desktop in a pawnshop. The woman sold this exact desktop to me for $7 and she charged me $5 for a flat screen monitor and $2 for the keyboard and mouse. I bought this whole setup for only $15 after taxes. She sold it to me so cheap because she couldn't get it to work. Only thing that was wrong with it was it needed a (OS). I got Windows 10 on the hard drive now. She is running like a champ now.
Wdym I got the Dell Optiplex 9020 SFF-DAL03230009 and I was gonna use my TV as a monitor. I connected it to a vgi-hdmi cable put its still not connected
I have the i7 version of this machine, the 9010 is pretty close in performance and slightly better power management with only slight performance disadvantage, although I'd get still go for the 9020 as some of the instruction sets on the chipset are now very standard that did not come on the 9010, an impressive machine with decent third party addon options.
These are all over my college. They're still pretty damn capable, ours have 4770s and 16gb of ddr3, run solidworks no problem. Crazy how capable 5 year old tech can be to this day.
It's a Dell. It's exciting. LOL I work on those at the computer renewal clinic where I volunteer. I've gotten to play with both a dell OptiPlex 9020 and a 755. Both are worthy cute little units.
got like 100+ fps all low at 900p on minecraft lol. i used an older model 3010, had a i5 3470, 8gigs of ram, and no GPU. planning to give it to my brother and get a 9020 cuz 4th gen is faster
Got both the sff and mt version for $0 dollars from my recycling center. The MT I have has an i7-4790 r5 240 and a 500 gb mechanical hdd. These are pretty potent pcs to this day. I have it hooked up on windows 7 and it does the job.
These are amazing cheap gaming machines if you buy a 1050 ti low profile you can put it on the top slot. The 4x is plenty for it but you will have to remove the hard drive caddy because it will get in the way. For under $250 you get an amazing small form factor PC
Excellent presentation of a Dell Optiplex, they are very qualitative and durable. Been using themselves at my home since University and only one of them gave me headache (GX270). The rest was working well, but the technology is advancing rapidly.
I found a few cheap accessories for this computer to make it more of a gaming computer. It clocks in around $204. You can actually upgrade some of the components to make it run faster.
Hey! Just wanted to tell you that even if the dell motherboard have the short PCI-E slot above the full size one. You can still use the short one without any problem. The short PCI-E port is (4x4 wired). For example you could put s Gtx 1050 TI low profile card there. Ive seen benchmarks from other youtube videos and there is only a 5% performance loss When using the short PCI-E slot!
Ryan Gehret There is no problem putting the Graphics Card in the small PCI-E Slot(4x4 wired). Even though the graphics Cards has full size connectors. If you world buy a GTX 1050TI low profilen for example you have to connect it to the upper PCI-E slot(the small one) because this card takes up more space. You world only loose 5-10% performance, there are plenty of people benchmarking the performance difference between the two PCI-E slots on this Dell SFF machine. Benchmark your machine as you have it today and then move the graphics card to small PCI-E slot and do another benchmark. There will not be a big performance drop! Hope this helped:)
I recently acquired a Dell Optiplex 9010 for very little money, which is 2nd and 3rd gen intel CPUs, currently running an i5 3570. Still quite decent just like the 9020 but only a generation behind. I weird thing that is happening with mine is that the 3.0 USB ports only want to work with 3.0 peripherals and the 2.0 ports with both 2.0 and 3.0 in 2.0 mode. Weird. Both low profile NVidia GT1030 and Nvidia GTX1050 cards work in mine :) temps remain quite good.
Nice overview of the 9020. I am looking for a second PC for my radio desk and this little guy would be the perfect size to take up little space. At minute marker 3:00 min. I believe you misidentified the blue and green jacks. I don't think either one is a headphone jack. The blue is a 'line in' for mic or mic mixer etc., and the green is a 'line out' for powered speakers. *Notice the symbols above... the left is pointing in, and the right is pointing out.
Nice review, this model is definitely a sleeper! I've installed a 1050TI low profile card in the X4 slot, its actually a (PCIe x16 wired as x4), 32GB of DDR3 ram, 1TB SSD and 2TB 3.5 for storage and a i7 4790. Running older games on max settings and 2019 games on medium/high.
What ram do you recommend right now I just have 16gb ddr3 Samsungs in it. I also have a 9020 sff with 1050ti lp 4gb oc but it has an i5 4590. Is it worth upgrading the cpu? Or should I just focus on 4x8 gb of ram for the 32gb?
@@SkyMuffinz 32 gb ram is no need, at least for now, but you could upgrade the cpu to a xeon 1231 v3 or something similar (the xeons dont have integrated graphics but they are much cheaper than i7 4790) the main reason for getting the i7's or xeons is the hyperthreading as modern games are starting to want more than 4 threads
You do know it's not a tower right? Not sure why everyone stands these up they are actually supposed to lay down so that the DVD drive is level. It even has feet showing the bottom these are great you stick the monitor on top of it claiming space on small desks.

I got an older low profile Dell pc in my workshop. The old core 2 duo is still great for basic stuff. Also slap a 1030 in there and u got a budget gaming pc. Give it to a friend or keep it as a spare.

Had mine since 2013 with an i7. It now has Windows 10 and two 4k monitors, its still working great. Have you tried that card with 4k? I want to get 4k 60fps out of both my monitors instead of just 4k 30fps. I was wondering if this build will handle that?

That's the graphics card, you need a half height PCIe card that doesn't need external power. Your options are limited, I think the best you can put in here is a GT1030. They're about $100 on eBay
Just finished the new Silent Hill 2 remake on mine with a meager RX6400 GPU and with Sony putting more and more of their library on PC, this is an excellent alternative to buying a PS5 if you’re willing to settle for medium graphics at 1080p.
Hey just bought a dell i5 optiplex 9020. It has a 500gb hard drive, 16 gb of ram. Im guessing it has all factory parts. Do you think that i will be able to run some steam games? And should i get a new and better graphics card?
Well, I just received the Dell OptiPlex. I forget which name it is, but I hope that it is a good machine. Concerning the people that do tell me that refurbished/used/restored PCs or bids not the best. So this gives me a little bit of help I feel the keyboard, and the keyboard is not Dell. However, the filters look like very loose. What do you figure, it is made in town I hope this computer runs smoothly for the daily tasks that I wanted to run. I mean it is made in China. I guess it cannot be that bad I mean heck? It looks new. So I’m going to give it a test run when someone helps set up, because I am blind and I’m not very computer savvy, so I hope everyone has a wonderful wonderful review.😊
I used these optiplexes back when I was in college, only those had an i3 4170 in them. Decent little machines for web browsing and office work, never really had any issues with them either. Nice to see they moved to a more traditional style CPU cooler on this model compared to the wierd proprietary one used on the 9010 and older models. Makes the system easier to work on.
this is better then any computer ur gonna buy at a department store for 500 bucks. People that only us it for basic stuff like email. amazon, youtube will absolutley love it specially if you dont know anything about computers and always have a walmart special computer with hdd,3g ram, slow crap processor.
Tomorrow im buying a 9020. It comes with the i7 3.4g, 16gb RAM, 120gb SSD and its running windows 10... Im thinking of putting windows 7 on it instead! Im also adding a graphics card (Gigabyte Nvidia Geforce 1050, 2gb, low profile) I dont know if im going to blow it up with the normal power supply... Do you or anybody reccomend putting in a better power supply?
It should be if you can change the ram to 16gbs or more and get one of these PC's with atleast an i5 or i7 processor and you could put a graphics card in there and it should work fine.
