EXCELLENT video filled with detail and annotations. I bought a refurbished Precision 7720 laptop 2 yrs. ago and avoided using it because it booted and operated so slowly. I decided to upgrade the DRAM, and, of course, the 2 open slots are those hidden beneath the keyboard. I appreciate the detailed instructions to get me to that point. I’m certain it took a lot of work on your part, so thank you for sharing. Unlike other videos I’ve seen, nothing broke off and had to be glued back on. 😃
Thank you so much for taking the time to create this awesome video! You are appreciated. I brought a used 7720 that had an undisclosed pointerstick issue. This video helped me solve it in under 30min by pulling the keyboard, clean and correctly reinstall. Thank you!
Hi bro nice video! Excuse me i have an issue with power supply trouble (i guess) My Dell presision 7720 just turn off with out blues screen, the support assist says all is ‘acceptable’ do you know whats going on?
Does it happen when you're doing anything in particular? Or does it do it shortly after you turn it on? Maybe provide a little bit more information around the behavior you are describing. Also does it happen when you are running on battery power are on AC adapter or it happens both ways?
5:31 you actually damaged the keyboard it comes in one piece now you have to use moment glue and put weights on the keyboard and the result would not be great as it can possibly glue the letters to the base
The keyboard is not damaged. There is nothing wrong with it. The plastic bezel snaps in place with tabs. It must be removed to access screws under the plastic bezel. Otherwise, the keyboard cannot be removed
I'm not sure. If you get the correct standard MXM form factor it might work. I think there is a thread on notebooktalk.net where GPU upgrades for this model are explored. I just use this occasionally when I travel and need a decent portable computer, so I'm not interested in doing any kind of upgrades to it. It's a very well made product but I don't expect modern gaming notebook performance from it. I look to my desktops for that. The CPU is a weak quad core and is rather anemic compared to current standards, so you could eek a bit more performance from it, but it would end up being CPU bottlenecked. And, the CPU is soldered so there is no way to install something better in place of it. It is still a great laptop. It is a shame there are no modern laptops made with the same attention to build quality. All the new ones are pretty crappy and too thin and light to function correctly. They're more like overgrown Windows cell phones now... locked down and disposable junk.
I love my 7720 - and this is an awesome video. My power connection broke (the post came out inside the cable) and I was looking for a video showing the replacement - while this isn't addressed here, I did see where and how the cable can be easily replaced, and more importantly shows where I need to do some cleaning (fans, heatsink, keyboard). I am also considering adding additional SSD drives - I'm not sure a 4tb SSD will work on the 7720, but I am sure I can at least use 2TB ssds. This is a really detailed and easily paced video, thanks!
hello i have this laptop dell precison 7720. but i'm facing a serious issue. the cpu of the laptops drops to 0.78 whenever i plug in the charger but the system runs fine while on battery... any help on this...
@@MAESTRO_SOUNDZ what is happening? Crashing? Freezing? CPU running in a low clock state, no turbo boost? It is not clear from your description. What Windows power profile are you using? If you run CPU-Z benchmark how does it behave?

Hey Mr fox. I remember a while back you did a collab with a computer company to bake liquid metal into the heatsink of a laptop any chance of you making a video on that? I miss the premamod days and the notebook forum days lol. I got a new 7630 dell and the element 31 is garbage.
Hey Brother. Happy Monday my friend. I did not make a video that but I can tell you that I used the heat lamp. You can get one pretty cheap from Home Depot or Walmart. I let the heat lamp bake the liquid metal for a few hours and it didn't get hot enough to swell the heat pipes or damage anything. Just apply the liquid metal to the heatsink and place the lamp a few inches away from the liquid metal then let it cook.
@@MrFoxRox ty brother. Happy Monday. I will definitely do this I appreciate you getting back so quickly. Once the first coat bakes in apply a fresh cost of lm a second time? What wattage on the lamp?
@@JCordero31 sorry, haven't been online much this week. After baking it for a few hours, clean it off and see if the copper is fully embedded (all silver, no yellow) and apply a second coat and re-bake. If you are not sure, do it anyway. I don't remember the bulb wattage, but it was the only heatlamp bulb for sale at Walmart at the time. I do not have it anymoe so I can't check. If I had to guess, probably 150W.
