The Dell Precision T3610 workstation is an excellent choice for gaming or using at home as an office desktop. There is one CPU inside utilizing Intel E5-1600 V1/V2 or E5-2600 V1/V2 series processors (LGA2011 socket). That is one of the big improvements over the T3600... being able to use V2 CPU architecture. In this video, we will review the system and install DIMMs inside our Dell T3610 tower.
There are 8 memory slots and run on DDR3 memory architecture. There are several speed options including 1066MHz, 1333MHz ,1600MHz or 1866MHz. The sizes available are 2GB, 4GB, 8GB or 16GB. Unfortunately, 32GB DIMMs are simply not an option for the Precision T3610. Similar to the T3600, there are three different types of RAM for the Dell Precision T3610. Your three options are ECC Unbuffered (Server UDIMM), Non-ECC Unbuffered (Desktop UDIMM) or ECC Registered (RDIMM). LRDIMMs, also know as load reduced, memory is not compatible. The type of RAM is very important, because it will determine the total scalability of your machine. ECC Registered DIMMs are what we recommend due to the fact they are less expensive and have higher overall capacity. Yes. RDIMMs have the highest scalability with 128GB via (8 x 16GB) DDR3 PC3-14900R 1866MHz ECC Registered Server Memory. On the other hand, both ECC Unbuffered and Non-ECC Unbuffered max out at 64GB via 8 x 8GB configuration. For this reason, we view ECC Registered DIMMs as the best option for the Dell Precision T3610. We will discuss the different memory options in more depth during our video as well as demonstrate how to properly install memory inside your Precision T3610 workstation tower.

@@cloudninjas You are welcome! i bought this system for like 100 euro with some ram and a ssd, added another ssd for a raid 0, 2 more sticks of ram for quad channel and a 2690v2. very high multi thread performance for about 160 total, also added a rx360 i had lying around, it doesnt really need any decent graphics for my use case, was just something i had lying around. again thanks for the breakdown, also as far as processor support goes it was very helpfull to know it would work upto a v2 with 16 and 26 series. as well as the ram specifications. with a 1650v2 and something like a rx580/590 graphics card this would still be a quite decent low budget gaming option.

Hi, can it take memory faster than 1866MHz? And if it can take it, will that memory still be limited to 1866MHz despite having a higher clock speed? Thanks for the video btw, very helpful!

Secondly I want to ask about Dell rmt memory module replacement recommended error. if I continue by pressing, I randomly get blue screen error any time

Thanks, this is the only clear explanation of the order to install the sticks. But is it OK to use 6 ram sticks? And would you still go in numerical order?

Appreciate the positive feedback. Yes you can install 6. Fill up the start of each memory channel... then start filling up the 2nd slot of each channel... basically the first and second channel use the 2nd slot. @@cloudninjas I had 2 sticks of 8GB 1333mhz ECC in my T3610 that I bought refurbished a few years ago, and it turns out they had put both sticks above the CPU in the white slots so it was running single channel. So single channel works. I just got 2 more sticks and one was defective, but it's working with slot 1, 2, 3 populated. The BIOS says "Active Channels: 3" and speed testing with UserBenchmark shows 25.3GB/s so apparently it's running in triple channel mode. I never thought these systems were that flexible. I'm expecting 4 more of the same Mushkin DIMMs in the mail next week so I may try 6 DIMMs in different configurations

I got the additional RAM. With sticks in slots 1-6 the bandwidth tests at 33.4GB/sec and the BIOS says 4 channels active. Since the bandwidth of DDR 1333mhz is 10.6GB/sec then it must really be quad channel even though half the channels have 2x DIMM and the others have 1x DIMM

Not 100% sure. Originally not compatible. Might be at this point with certain upgrades but not sure. Hopefully someone can drop a comment with answer.

I put 2 dimms outside as you said. But dimm slot 1 is detected and dimm slot 2 is not. Can you explain?

You could have a bad DIMM or bad DIMM slot or bad CPU. Rotate your RAM around and see if error follow the DIMM... if so it's the DIMM. If not then it's the socket or CPU. Could also not be fully seated. Very common issue. Good luck. Smash that subscribe.

@@cloudninjas it might be dimm slot. As I tried all my 4 sticks in even (2,6,4,8) slots and none of them detect ram but odd (1,5,3,7) detects

Great question. We perform a full burn in test. We test with memtest. We inspect each module to ensure leads and capacitors are in good shape. We make sure no counterfeit parts. I have 3 Monitors connected to mines. Old machine that still works great if we can figure out how to stop always having to hit F1 on boot up. Diagnostics always checks out OK and so does Dell Support Assistant.
