Hi. What's the etimology of the town name "Mahmudia"? In Egypt we have many locations that have the same name and all originate from the arabic name "Mahmud". It made me very curious that you have this name in Romania too. Multumesc.
Yes. The same in Romania. The name Mahmudia comes from the Turkish sultan Mahmud II. In 1839, Romania was under Turkish rule, and Mahmud II raised the commune to city level and changed the name from Moldovan to Mahmudia. Thank you for visiting my youtube channel. Dorel
