I did a rifle course taught by John as a gift from my brother without knowing anything about the guy. I’ve been through so many courses taught privately, local LEO, and at the federal level and I was shocked to learn his background after because of the utter lack of EGO. He was just the coolest down to earth guy and never even mentioned he was frigging Delta. Awesome dude, even better teacher.

I love how John is such a big picture guy and doesn't get wrapped up in arguing over the miniscule details and nonsense.

The Shawn Ryan Show is one of the most watchable podcasts out there. I always learn something useful, and they always have interesting guests.

I love how chill and nonchalant/straight forward delta guys are. No Hollywood bs, no boujie requirements for their defense/med requirements. Guys like dirty civilian RU-vid talking about having night vision, a 10k rifle set up, $100k off road get away vehicle for home defense (these guys never seen combat)

Keep a Benelli M4 12 gauge by my wife’s side of the bed. Leaning on the wall by her night stand. She’s been fully trained with it. I keep whatever hand gun I was carrying for the day on my night stand. I also have a bathroom pistol. A top of the fridge pistol. Lounge chair pistol. Office rifle and pistol. I live in a very nice beach area. Basically a small island. But 3 men burglarized our home randomly all 3 entered my home armed and wearing mask. Luckily my wife has just left. But we had cars in the drive way so they had no idea no one was home. They were in our home for 40 mins stole 13 firearms a heavy as fu*k safe. All my wife’s jewelry. My Rolex they got us for over 100k. All convicted to 10 years prison. And 10 years probation plus 25k each restitution. So it can definitely happen to anyone. These guys hit my home randomly just 3 meth heads driving around. They also hit a local bait n tackle and a church. All in the same day. My house was last on the random target list.

That 6 min talk me more about how to adjust my home defense strategy than anything I have read or learned before. That guy freaking knows his stuff.

For home defense; there is a reason why emergency room doctors never treat "OO" buckshot wounds to a patients upper torso. There's no need to transport a deceased person to the hospital ER.

Great advice on early warning tech. My security cams made an attempted home invasion a lot less stressful. They were in view of my cams the entire time and I was armed and waiting.

I have the upmost respect for men like this . I have zero respect for the men in suits that send young men of to fight in foreign wars .

Very rarely do I hear people mention the best option for home defense and that’s one or two big dogs. Most people will turn the other way if they hear a big dog barking. Also majority of big dogs won’t hesitate to protect their homes/owners.

I’m a retired homicide detective. This is the best information on this topic found anywhere. all the tacticool videos of guys in full kit, and M4s with every gadget known to man showing you all the cool moves is entertaining …and fantasy for guys wanting to become backyard special forces operators …but this guy is solid no nonsense fact. I could say a lot about why you don’t want to talk to LE as he mentioned but I believe the topic has been covered many times online.

When it comes to home defense, the handgun exists only to fight your way to a long gun.

I'm the 70 year old man with the white beard on the couch with my hands in the air and a peace sign extending from each hand. A little satire, but I think I've got it covered.

This episode is going to rock. I agree with his philosophy, stay in your hard point. Defend from there. Only issue is most homes are soft, dry wall gets punctured easy. If you can "harden" certain sections, do so if you can afford it.

In Calorado I have heard you’re supposed to use interpretive dance fighting to distract them until the defunded police can get there, at some point, so they can deny any crimes have happened.

I deleted most of the doors in my house, except for one. Meaning one way in and one way out, for stand off distance, with bollards around windows "small ones" and the exterior surrounding my property, backyard is woods and full of punji traps even my roof is filled with razor wire on my metal roof making it harder if people, rappel onto my roof.😂

been carrying one of those edc tourniquets for a while now, goes with me everywhere, along with a chest seal, and packing gauze. if you carry something to make holes you better have stuff to patch holes.

This kind of interview is what im talking about, nice to see the real guys..

The guy is like top notch world class commedian, im watching this and gives me dave Chapelle, bill burr vibes, can not stop smiling. Another thing, probably the most bad ass guy ever lived, sitting with crocs... hahah This is pure gold.

Let me respond according to the sequence of their conversation… You ARE likely to go on the offense in your own home if you have family in there. Yes, kids NEED to learn to roll off of their beds and to get under them. If it’s just you, then play defensively all the way… Point A is always to get to your tools. Point B, as he said, kids. Never take your kids through the clearing/combative process. Leave them hidden. Aim at the threats upper body or head (to get an upward angle) if you have close neighbors. A pistol is almost always the IMMEDIATE go to. Pistols are for if your rifle is down OR if you are fighting to your rifle. No matter the caliber, it will do its job with accurate placement. Always have SOME medical preferably stationed in nearly EVERY room. Kids room. Your room. All bathrooms. Closets. Kitchen. Living room. Dining room. Garage. Medical EVERYWHERE. That way, you don’t have to worry about bringing it with you. It’s there already. If anything, have a tourniquet literally strapped to your home rifle. Have blood stop and compression gauze. Those 3 at the least. Preferably hemostatic. ALWAYS have lights lighting up the exterior of your house. At the least, light up the driveway and all entrances. Motion active is good. Secure your exterior doors AS MICH as you can. Never focus on pulling out your phone until you are DONE. Be prepared. Train. I am a nobody. So take this however you will. Just be ready.

Some stuff happend at mine and my neighbors house about 20 years ago and a las vegas metro cop told me that exact same thing. He said as annoying and nosey your neighbors are those are the ones that will see and know everything.
