The delusion of infidelity, also known as
"Othello syndrome" or morbid jealousy, is a psychiatric condition in which a person holds a fixed, false belief that their romantic partner is being unfaithful, despite a lack of evidence or even evidence to the contrary.
This delusion often leads to obsessive thoughts, irrational accusations, and behaviors such as checking their partner's phone or stalking, and may cause significant strain on relationships.
It is commonly seen in individuals with underlying psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, delusional disorder (jealous subtype), or mood disorders. The delusion is usually not based on real facts but on misinterpretations of ordinary events or harmless interactions, which are twisted to support the belief in infidelity.
