Being in art school and having to take art history classes, I'm fucken pissed about how minimalist art has been hijacked! I don't personally love minimalism myself, but I truly appreciate where it came from. If I'm remembering correctly, it was originally a movement that didn't even want to be called a movement, but it was a rejection of what was considered the High Standard of art that always had subjects (art for a while at that point had already been going more and more abstract but this was a true leap) and they purposely made their works somewhat meaningless or obscure so that the viewer could put their own interpretation, experience, emotions, etc onto the piece. That's why many pieces from the original movement were untitled, they didn't want to impart anything on the viewer. It's about the viewer's interaction with the art. They didn't want to tell the viewer what to believe. And a lot of these original sculptures were MASSIVE. A lot dealt with scale and material, going into a more industrial age those types of metals and such were more accessible then high quality marbles or oil paints or glazes. It's frustrating as an artist seeing the genre be abused by the rich when the history of art and artists has always been about the working class and those who've struggled, through poverty, wars, illness (mental or physical), discrimination, etc. Anyway, rant over. Love or hate minimalism, I'm more frustrated that it, or any art, has become a way for the rich to just get richer.

just saw it recently so this was in like 2015. this thing this this sold for new orleans record at 70 million 70 million for that are the tiffany and co paperclip book how much are they okay so this one is reasonable 165 dollars that's very reasonable for for a paper clip very reasonable and then the 18k gold paper clip is one and a half grand rich people find better things to spend your money on this is just like this is like the point where like you know when you try and think about like if you had a billion pound what would you spend it on and it's just like i have no idea how to spend a billion pounds like you get a house for like like 10 million or something a few nice cars maybe a holiday home but after that what the you get i guess it's this sort ofyou get literally thought this was a joke at first so yeah what did they actually manage to sell those the pro stands for a thousand dollars what did they do was it literally just a stand they just did just hold up the monitor you get a stand for like like cheap but maybe like 20 quid if that don't get me wrong it looks kind of nice but maybe not worth fifty thousand dollars okay so it's it's going to be one of those videos where he puts like a hole in the yeah one of those where he puts a hole in the bucket and then yeah that does look i like that that looks quite nice i mean i wouldn't buy it i definitely wouldn't buy it always going to put colors in it now go on i mean this is like the easiest 50 grand he'll probably ever make that okay you know what that does look pretty cool i quite like that 50 gram worth of work did not go into that it does not hold 50 grand worth of value in my opinion but that is one of the better ones i think certainly better than the [ __ ] blackboard one my school cuts out a George, when I went to Tate Modern as a child I saw 2 things. 1 was a tin of beans that had a sausage pop out of it every so often, the other was a bare canvas with a knife slash in the middle. Pretentious art people have made all the excuses and defences in the world for these whenever I bring them up, feeling so smug of themselves and this "art". But it's just not art. I miss old art of oil paintings and stuff, literally anything is called art nowadays and it's just ridiculous, and there is such pretentiousness and entitlement surrounding art that I feel keeps exaggerating these things
