The beauty of these knives is that you never, really , find the perfect model. You wind up with a dozen or more and you ask yourself, " If I had to pick just one...", and you can't .

I got 6! Bantam alox, Swiss Champ, Huntsman, Farmer Alox, Army Ranger 79, and a Compact…. More than enough… the one that gets almost no use is the Farmer. The Bantam as an EDC is great! The Swiss Champ goes with me every bike ride and is on my car on every camping trip. The Huntsman is on my coffee making kit, I got it recently on sale, have not use it much. The army ranger 79 does not get much use but goes with me on my boat, plan on use it as food prep or as silverware 😅, the compact is also an excellent EDC, gets carried a lot, I EDC, the Bantam alox, the Compact as well as my Ontario Rat 2 and a Kershaw Shuffle 2 which is an excellent EDC knive… gets carried a lot. I don’t think I will buy another Victorinox… This is plenty.

Since the early 90s i have a SwissChamp as EDC and i mean really EDC. I weared it daily. It never let me down and i will never ever change my EDC.

The Huntsman and Classic SD are the most popular SAK models. I use the Rambler as a daily carry, the Huntsman for hiking/camping 👍🏼 I’ve modded the Huntsman, adding Plus scales, opening up the 4th scale tool slot and 2nd pinhole for a sewing needle. Felix Immler’s channel has tutorials.

Cool knife George use the corkscrew to loosen knots in tent rope and shoe laces and use the parcel hook to remove metal tent pegs just a few uses

The point of the huntsman is that it is suited to use in woodlands…There are many uses for the corkscrew, trying to use the saw on something out of reach ?… you can use the corkscrew to attached the knife to a small branch to extend your reach. You can buy a spiral handled needle screwdriver [for eyeglasses] that fits into the corkscrew as a place to store it. You can buy spiral shaped pieces of tinder that fit into the corkscrew as a place to store it. [this tinder goes well with the fire starting ferro strip that can fit in to replace the toothpick.

The hook is useful to use the knife as a T-Handle to pick up a hot pot etc. while cooking or to pick up a twine bundled load, gut hook etc. There is a video on 60 uses of the Swiss Army Knife! Great video as always. Not sure if you have seen any of Felix Immler's videos on Victorinox/Swiss Army Knife uses and mods. He has some really nifty ideas. There is a lot more to one of those knives than meets the eye or my limited imagination! Take Care!

Use your Tinker at work, and the new one for field work. There are lots of uses for the corkscrew, plus there is a little hideaway hole for a pin when you open the corkscrew. You can get some great accessories for the corkscrew too - a spectacles screwdriver, highly compressed tinder plus others, shaped to screw into it. Don't be downhearted George!

Hey George , Hello from Canada . If you're looking for a saw , just try to find a hiker . It is identical to the Tinker but also has a saw . I have one , and enjoy it very much . I also like the fact that they have a place for a straight pin , which is also very handy .

I've got the Ranger, which is like a huntsman but with a metal saw/file also. The corkscrew is good for undoing knots.

I'm a huge fan of the raner. The file/metal saw, the 4 mm wood chisel and the long shank 2mm flat head screwdriver in addition to all the tools on the Huntsman make the ranger my top choice. I own the Huntsman and fieldmaster too.

I as well have the ranger. I am not satisfied with the stand alone Phillips and prefer the end of the can opener. The ranger best suits my use. I would like a cadet with a pair of scissors for edc. Thanks

With the corkscrew you can add mini tools, like an eyeglass screwdriver, or add the fireant fire starter tools.

The Forester is the one you want that has the best saw on it. I have one and I love it. It’s also a really good bush crafting knife to have with you.

Ha Ha I started with the Camper, and I liked it so much I bought a Huntsman, and I liked it so much I bought a Range,r and then I liked it so much I bought a Explorer it has the Phillips on the end! nice and a magnifying Glass I think I have it all Now. Ha Ha--.Great video George

You can use the spine of saw for ferro rod because it’s super sharp! And for the cork screw you can use it for untiring knots!

Corkscrew can be used to help untie knots as well as to carry things like mini screw drivers, Ferro rods and fire tinder. But....I'm sure there are many more uses for it.

@@2ndchancegeorge i don’t know if you know this but you can put a needle in a little hole in the red scale next to the screwdriver/corkscrew. There are little micro screwdrivers that go in the corkscrew you can google “victorinox corkscrew tools” You can change out the toothpick for a ferro rod And there a plus scales that add a slot for a pen google “victorinox plus scales 91mm”

The Victorinox Huntsman was my first knife ever, when I was 10. Back then, there was no package hook on the knife. It's a great knife!!

As far as the corkscrew goes, mine usually have two purposes. Untying knots, and holding the micro screwdriver for my glasses. Occasionally they open a bottle of wine.😆And I've found that the parcel hook comes in real handy for lifting the bail of a cooking pot off a campfire👍Cheers, buddy!

The one that you want - the same as your Huntsman but just with the Phillips instead of the corkscrew - is the Fieldmaster. However they are always a bit more expensive than the Huntsman. I did something similar, bought a Climber as it was on sale, and would have preferred the Super Tinker which has the Phillips instead of the corkscrew. The Climber is the same as your Huntsman, just minus the woodsaw. I do have a few more though lol. I bought the Swisschamp to have the inline Phillips amongst other tools, which I think is better than the backtool T-handle Phillips. However 2 of my SAKs do have that, the Hiker, and the Soldier 08.

I have the Huntsman with the clear blue scales. When you lift the corkscrew, you will see a tiny hole just above the hinge. I keep a long straight pin in there with the large plastic round head. Definitely a great little addition to help dig out splinters that the tweezers just can’t get ahold of.

The Fieldmaster is the Phillips version $35.00 , 111mm is the Trailmaster is the Phillips version. The no scissors version is the Hiker $27.00 . Amazon

The back of that saw is a great striker for a ferro rod. There is also a little hole in the cork screw indent, a pin fits in it perfectly. My cork screw holds a small ferro rod and tinder. The huntsman sits in my belt pouch with other items while wondering around the woods or waters.

Lots of people seem to love the corkscrew for different purposes but the Philips head for performing it’s one job well cannot be beaten in my opinion. While the can opener can be used on Philips the real deal cannot be beaten.

Corkscrew is awesome for untying knots in cordage. The corkscrew also is fantastic for adding a fire kit. Add a helix tender and a fero rod from Tortoise gear. I only buy models with the corkscrew. Many other uses too. The small straight screwdriver doubles as a Phillips. It was designed that way.

My EDC has been the Huntsman. At times i wished I owned their Ranger as it has the metal file as well. Although I have not used the corkscrew for corks, it has been used quite often for pulling overly tight knots apart, drilling holes larger then the awl will, pulling small cordage through small holes, and much more.

I have heard the tip of the corkscrew works great for loosening knots in paracord or smaller ropes. Supposedly you can work the tip under one strand of the cord and then pull some slack in the knot so you can loosen the knot and not have to cut your rope. I have never tried it but multiple people have told me it works.

Oh boy, I just went down the rabbit hole myself. I've never been into multitools because of the bulk. My brother gave me a spartan for christmas and I just keep using all the tools. I ordered myself a workchamp and a manager... Currently drooling over the ranger 55 wood and forester wood. I think you'd really enjoy either of those two for walkabouts. Would love to see a review. Hey 2CG, you can use the little screwdriver on the canopener to turn Phillipsscrews. It is supposed to be used that way. the cockscrew thing is typical for multibladed german , french and other europian pocketknives. Typical evwn old,old pocketknives over here that had more than a main and a penblade, the third thing would be the cockscrew. I very seldom use the cockscrews on my victorinox knives even so I am german, but most of the vine I drink, I drink indoors where there is a better cockscrew. Other than that I find the Huntsman one of the best Victorinox knives out there beside the farmer X and the trailmaster which is my personal everyday carry. The trailmaster is longer, and has no penblade, but the main blade is secured by a linerlock and the big screwdriver/bottleopener too which is really great. It has your desired Phillipshead screwdriver but is missing the sissors which I didn`t miss that often. There is a version of the big SAKs that has the sissors. But than the knive becomes to bulky for my taste. The trailmaster is only 17mm thick ( don`t what that translates to in inches). And so is thinner than the huntsman and the same thickness of the Farmer X. It rides comfortably in my jeans frontpocket.

Open up the corkscrew (which is great for breaking up knots) and look inside and you will see a tiny hole..... great place to keep a straight pin to help pull out splinters etc....also wind up a paper clip on the corkscrew for wire if needed

I have the Huntsman and the Swiss Champ. I carry both in my backpack. I use them nearly every day. I will use the Huntsman for most everything unless it does not have the tool I need, then the Champ comes out. With the price difference, I will wear out the Huntsman first. . There are quite a few YT videos on them. Felix Immler is one of the best. You will be surprised at the multitude of uses there are for a SAK

a very nice SAK at a great price. I've been in the Victorinox hole for a long time. I prefer red as well. I also like the smaller knives. The aluminum Alox appeal to me, but I've not pulled the trigger on one, YET. I too have never found the perfect SAK.

👍 Nice review of an excellent knife. I carry a YELLOW Victorinox Spartan (Tinker w/ corkscrew in lieu of Phillips head) in town and a BLUE Victorinox Huntsman when in the countryside. Before you give up on the corkscrew search RU-vid for videos by Felix Immler. He made a video dedicated to each tool on the SAK and I believe you might the one on the corkscrew interesting. Mr. Immler’s “claim to fame” is he wrote a book about building an entire camp site out of the materials nature provided using only an SAK. Having said all that I am looking at a Victorinox Fieldmaster to get the dedicated 3-D Phillips head screwdriver. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Very glad you like you Victorinox knives. Truth be told I am a bit of a Victorinox fan-boy. 😂😂😂

Victorinox makes a separate eyeglass screw that screws into the corkscrew. I put them in all of my SAKS with corkscrews. They come in handy sometimes and don't cost much.

the corkscrew has a hidden function that you will like: it can hold a small screwdriver for eyeglass screws. furthermore the hook can be used to pull cords, carry objects tied with ties (I have seen carrying wood tied together with a rope)...

As someone who has 5 standard saks, 2 small saks, & one of their multitools... i'm very deep down in the rabbit hole.... My top 2 favourite saks are the farmer x & the deluxe tinker. I'd love to see what saks you get in the future.

I have several SAKs but I have been carrying a LM Wave for nearly 2 decades and I'm not the kind of person to carry more than 1 knife or multi-tool. Well, I carry a small Opinel attached to my keys so they're still 2, anyway. I don't like a dirty or rusty Leatherman knife so the Opinel gets used and re-sharpened instead. I've attached a Parker Jotter pen with a lanyard to the Wave to mimic a Compact SAK with Plus scales and pen.

Corkscrew is used to hang backpacks from trees, undo knots, and attach saw to a long stick to extend reach of the saw.

Was bought SAKs as a little guy so have a good idea of what i like and don't but you just need Philips heads these days. The Huntsman is a sound SAK, you get lots of tools for a good price but you are correct, id buy the one with the Philips now too.

We’ve all been there with victorinox. Just too many models. Do your homework and I’m sure you’ll find one that feels perfect. As for the corkscrew, I always used it as a kid to undo really tight knots, like a marlinspike. And I’ve seen people use it to help attach the knife or saw to the end of a stick, to get a little (or a lot) extra reach

👍 Corkscrew ... undoing knots or drill the pith out from a elder to tinker a whistle. In the handle shell of the side from the corkscrew (or screwdriver by the Tinker-modell) there is a tiny small hole to put a staple needle, pin, needle (I don´t the right term in engl. for that needle with a head).

you can screw the cork screw into a pretty good peice of wood to make it easier to carry....like a tee handle. That's what I use mine for. But I got a bigger one. The ranger grip 79 I think. Don't need a screw driver in the woods.

The Huntsman was too thick for me for pocket carry because knives always fall to horizontal in pocket. ~ So I use a pouch I had from a folding/locking Craftsman utility knife which has a pocket clip. The pouch fit the Huntsman perfectly. I went with my first SAK for the corkscrew with opposing saw to create an extended saw when corkscrew screwed tight to a straight branch...lure in tree (-: or out of reach fatwood branch. and felt a T design philips driver will 1day tick me off. Or really torquing down on a screw would ruin a good tool knife. ~ Rare it is needing a screw driver when not at home where proper tool can be had. But.. ..if out camping/fishing picnic I pair my SAK with my old trusty 1994 Leatherman PST tucked away. ; pliers, file, straight drivers if needed.

Don't forget to be careful, those plastic scales come off real easy if you warm them up in some hot water. Or if you accidentally slide the bottle opener from another Swiss army knife underneath. It'd be a real shame if you had to make new scales for it 😉 I can't really talk about different models' carry purposes; I've had a Swisschamp in my pocket for about a decade now and wouldn't reduce 1 thing about it. Funnily enough I picked it up from one of those little antique shops in Cape Town. It's the better, vintage model before they changed the magnifying lens to plastic & reduced the length of the Philips screwdriver shank (Inline Philips is waaay better than t-shank Philips on Swiss army knives imo) A couple of uses for the corkscrew that help me out fairly regularly is untying stuck knots & picking stitches. The point works great and the smooth faces of the corkscrew mean no torn threads 👍🏻
