This channel is about watches. I like watches, but I am no expert or collector and everything I say is just my personal opinion. I just simply had an idea of having fun by running a youtube channel about my experience with the watches I buy. So I set the budget of a 1000 euros and started the channel. This is why I flip most of my watches, because I have to stay within my budget while introducing new watches to the channel. And that is why all the watches you see on this channel are the cheap ones as well.
My location: European Union, Lithuania
My wrist size is 16,5 ~ 17cm (6.5in ~ 6.7in)

Note to myself - do not buy used mechanical watches online. Do not buy used mechanical watches before testing them on a timegrapher!

Note to yourself. Be smarter and do not buy mechanical watches, ever. It's a waste of money. Quartz all the way, especially today when we have solar powered watches... Citizen, Casio and few more... anything else is just overpriced junk. ;)

@@damyr What an absolutely goofy comment lmao. Mechanical watches aren't bought for their accuracy in the 21st century.
@damyr
@damyr Год назад
@@starmorpheus Then why? Because of durability? No. Practicality? No. Reliability? No. Overall quality? Still no. So, why do people buy mechanical watches in the 21st century? Let me tell you, because they are dumb. That's why. And watch companies know that, so they are using it for their own benefit. Because they have much higher profit margins from mechanical watches, as they can charge even thousands of dollars for them, and dumb people will think that's acceptable. Watch industry is the only industry in the world where low quality costs much more than high quality. It's an absolute paradox.

@@damyr I have owned solar watches and finding replacement parts for them is difficult, finding replacement solar panels is also difficult. Mechanical watches if taken care of last 100+ years. A quarts watch. Maybe 10-20 years before the electronics fail and it needs to be replaced. When you buy a mechanical watch, you usually buy it for your entire life. i think the same thing i don't think mechanical watches have a big purpose these days. But i have like the cheapest Seiko mechanical watch and i enjoy it. Its more of a hobby then anything else. I have alot of nostalgia to how things were in the 1950's when times were a little bit simpler. Even the cheapest Seiko is only about 3 minutes off after a month. Which isn't too bad. Not as accurate as my quarts watches though, i have one i set the time on 2 years ago and it's only 1.5 minutes off now.
@damyr
@damyr Год назад
@@SmartMoneyRyan Parts for solar quartz? No. You just buy another. Tho, I can't think a scenario for a good quality solar quartz to fail (Casio and Citizen), except if it was defective from the get go. But if you handled it so hard, then you rather need a new arm, not a watch. Btw, I'm always fascinated when people say they enjoy their mechanical watch. I don't really know what's enjoyable with it? Winding/synchronize it every few days/weeks? I just don't get it. Nostalgia? Maybe. But still, it's a watch, not an antique car or piece of furniture. And that sounds hipstery, anyway.

i got a vintage watch and serviced it. after the service, it shows "snow storm" on the timegrapher (app). then i bought a demagnitizer and demagnitized it but it didnt fix the issue (snow storm). i dismantled the watch and replaced its hairspring and boom problem fixed.

crazy that you push the lever so much, you should only push a tiny bit every time, for ETA movement, 0.1mm adjust can make it +-20s, and you push it all the way to the top, of course it won't work.

Good advice. From my understanding the lever on the right adjusts the beat error which you should only do when adjusting the watch in multiple positions.
@TomasWatchReviews
@TomasWatchReviews 2 года назад
@@noice9709 not really. The lever under just adjusts the center of the swing. 4+ ms is a lot. Beat error does not show which way, so you have to play and find out in "colder/warmer" game style.

If it needs servicing, it will be more cost effective to upgrade the movement to an NH MOVEMENT. I'm sure they will fit into the Seiko 5.

My new watch was running 25s/day fast on receipt. I used that Magnetometer app and saw high magnetism, which I've never seen on my other watches. I check them all when they arrive. I demagnetized it just the once (remove the watch to arm's length very slowly after a 10s hold just above the unit.). The watch got down to almost 0s/day over a 24 hour measurement period. I was surprised as most expect magnetism to result in much higher errors.
@AllenReinecke

I had used the Watch Check app and confirmed a low amplitude, suggesting magnetism as a potential issue.

Servicing is not worth it. Just get a new movement and change it, way cheaper and you can even upgrade to the NH36 with hacking and hand-winding

@SirBeauJangles

The calibre-"beat" looked to be weak, with oscillations so slow that your camera could see the wheel moving. Degrees number should be well over 200 degrees if I recall correctly, (been a long time since I regulated any auto watches) - if you have a strong interest in auto or even manual mechanical watches then I'd recommend getting a real timegrapher tool and with an old low value watch learn how to set up its escapement. If its beat is strong than it's usually possible to get it acceptable but with a weak beat it's pretty much a waste of time. Old watches are usually quite heavily worn, especially old Seiko 5 models. So far I've found the hi-beat calibres by Miyota to be less inclined to be badly worn, but are just as susceptible to magnetism effects, getting faster till the watch isn't really useful any more.if a cheap degausser is all you can get, then it's better to degauss more regularly, don't let magnetism build up till the watch gains minutes per day. Beware of cases for phones or tablets with magnetic close flaps that turn off the device when the cover flap is closed. Those can have surprisingly strong small magnets in them to switch off the tablet/phone. And since by their nature they're frequently very close to your hands, they can be be very guilty of watch magnetisation. If using those things, maybe best to keep mechanical watches for times with no iPads or phones nearby, use a quartz watch when handling them. Hoping these little notes are helpful?

Agree with your first commenter: badic2100; from my understanding, the lever on the right adjusts the beat error and should only be adjusted when using a timegrapher and testing the watch in multiple positions. The regulating lever is moved to slow down or speed up the watch to get reasonable accuracy. thank you. I know :) But with 4+ ms beat error I wanted to start fresh from zero. I did play with this watch for an hour, but the graph just kept swinging like crazy. It is dead movement. That lever under is actually a very simple thing, it adjusts the center of the swing. And that beat error just shows the difference how much off the center it is and how much it swings to one side more then the other. Beat error does not show which way, so you have to play and find out if the error is getting bigger or smaller. Not a rocket science :)

It's not his watch that needed servicing (as he claimed), but he himself. Not only did he commit the blunder of moving the regulator together with the beat error lever, but he moved the regulator a lot instead of the tiny bit that it should be moved every single time it is pushed, because he was unaware that it's easy to overshoot the extent it ought to be moved.. Purchasing a used mechanical watch online was the least of his errors.
