@@martezhodges3418 man its looking nice. I think that because DeMar over in San Antonio became a better playmaker he's not just gonna be the scorer we saw in Toronto. He just needs to improve his defense overall. Lavine scoring possibilities gets opened up due to Lonzo's facilitation. but I think demar got snubbed for the all star last year from Conley but lets hope he makes it this year
@@gypsytrader1759 lots of people like to say Lowry. I got Lowry second because DeMar I would say has done more. even though Lowry went there and helped bring home a championship but DeMar was grown out on Toronto he was a pure raptor like VC. He lead that raptors squad to their first ECF. If only he could get pass that cavs squad I think that he would definitely have a least got one championship and would be looked at much differently.
We have to retire DDR's jersey when he retires... He may not read this, but the fans in Toronto knows what he had done for the city and appreciates it.
@@georgethinks9431 I think players can have a greater contribution towards a franchise than just winning a championship. Limiting the criteria to a championship would mean many great NBA players would never get recognize. Vince may have never won anything for the Raptors but you can’t separate the Raptors history without Vince Carter.
he's been criminally underrated even in his time in Toronto. The issue is he's so damn good, but he also has many flaws, at least defensively. So it's kind of difficult seeing what his limit is.
This man Draymond is a supremely talented interviewer, asks the questions the audience wants answered, no hidden agenda, and just a straight shooter. Mr Green will be getting green for years to come…
Was highkey impressed by how professional, and serious the conversation topics were but also the mutual respect they had for each other to be so honest about everything.
He has a better perspective on talking to players. Since he himself is a player and he’s not trying to get clicks and shit like media types where they don’t care about the player but the drama and bullshit
Mann Demar really the definition of the rose that grew from concrete. Mans coming from Compton and with his position was able to break out of his small bubbled view of the world and experience the real bigger world. He's speaking nothing but facts and you can tell he's learned hella throughout his career. Not just basketball, but life. Hope he gets a ring
man demar one of the hardest dudes in the league, born and raised from Compton and been through so much, and for him to be so open and outspoken about mental health is incredible
@@martezhodges3418 bruh you think Chicago is gonna be in the finals. Nope. Bucks, nets, 76ers, heat, hawks, knicks. Maybe even Boston. Chicago gonna be in the playoffs. But not going to the finals
Mental health is a major issue for our generation, rich or poor we all go through it. Am just so inspired by the courage Derozan and guys like Kai have to openly acknowledge what they're going through. This somehow makes it okay not to be okay. That's how the healing starts. Acceptance. Thank you Demar and Thank you Draymond for the platform. Get Kyrie next.
You can hear the pain in his voice talking about the Toronto situation, watching their championship run etc. He really loved that team and city...and we will always love him too ❤💯
7:42 Toronto and much of Canada has always been very much "Americanized" but every guy always acts thrown by seeing federal signs with two languages written on them. It's not that big a deal. Why does Draymond make it sound like a city with more than 3 million citizens didn't exist prior to Demar arriving? This city has culture and an identity, and it's been around for just as long as any major American city on the East coast. I know it probably never crossed his mind to travel north of the border as a young player, but he makes it sound like he's playing for a foreign league in Europe, and not a few hours drive from Detroit. Toronto has always had a diverse ethnic population, but with basketball being a lesser watcher sport abroad, and hockey reigning supreme for a majority of Canadians, it did take some time to build up a fan base for the Raptors team prior to its inception in 1995. But they did something smart that most other franchises in the league have not done before - they directed marketing campaigns at recently landed immigrants and foreign nationals, putting out pamphlets, posters, flyers and TV spots in multiple languages that gained traction with Toronto's Asian population, Middle Eastern population, and the French-speaking Caribbean population. When I was growing up we had actual schoolyard fights over who got to wear Vince Carter's #15 for gym class. And we always took it a little too personally when traded players came to the city and had a frostier perception and demeanor to our city than our own winters did. What Demar did was build upon the passionate fan base, and he expanded it. It became a destination for the league and not some backwater stop for a regular season win. When the Raps were basement dwellers, he told the city that we would be alright. We've never forgotten his loyalty and love for Toronto, and it broke my heart to see him traded. It nearly ripped the team in half between the players and the front office, but they pulled it together and won a championship as a result. It took a lot to part ways with him, and given all that he's done for the sport at large, and for the discussion about player's mental health, I wish him all the best in his career. Kawhi may have put the pennant in the rafters, but Demar helped build the stadium Kawhi played in.
@@RonaldDorsinator Naw I feel there Roster is good. The only thing I think should have added was Cousin, a player similar to big V if they going for a big. But as far as the guards and forwards I like the structure, bekause now the Bulls won't get killed in the pick and roll so easily
@@Tony_Tucka *that’s where I was going with it....they need go after another big yea I 100% agree there offense is definitely str8....they need somebody like Paul Milsapp or al Holford on they team....no lie you might not agree with this but I think they should add Ben Simmons to their team....I know alot ppl talk about him for the wrong reason....But I still see something special in him...I think with the way bulls playing and their postive energy he could fit in with them*
Could be. There's more to it, I think. Motivation, chemistry throughout the whole season, injuries, a lot plays a part in it. It could go a number of ways. If Milwaukee can motivate themselves for a repeat, they should occupy the top two with Brooklyn, in my opinion. Philly was a powerhouse last year, but they messed up on their exit, and the Simmons relationship so much, it's hard to see them overcome that immediately. Maybe they will, maybe this kind of internal shock is something they actually needed for that next step... if everyone can cut their own B.S, and come to the same page, it could be a blessing in disguise. Reason tells me otherwise. Is Boston ready for that next step? I don't know. Can Miami play a bubble-like year, again? Adding Kyle and Tucker, they definitely have the pieces. One thing's for sure, it'll be really interesting watching the east this year. I will probably be rootin' for the bulls, they have a really interesting, albeit not really defensively minded starting 5. :)
Because he knows what players want to be asked. He knows that players need a comfortable space to release their peace without the drama behind it. Most of the time, these athletes don't care, but it does hurt. They don't want to show it because people on social media and even other players can pounce on that person. Dray knows the pain of holding these feelings in for years.
So close to having Demar back damn, he will always be part of Raptors Nation. Regardless his sacrifice did everything to get us in the position we needed to be to win. Thank You Demr Derozan. Ppl tweeting that not Rap die hard cause we all miss Demar
Great conversation! As a Raptors fan, I have so much appreciation for having experienced the DeRozan era. DeMar is a class act and will forever be a legend in Toronto!
The city will always love and appreciate demar, what he said was true, he was the sacrificial lamb in order for us to win. My man made the ultimate sacrifice for Toronto to win a chip. We love you d-bo, can’t wait for your jersey to hang in the rafters
Deebo such a real one 🖤🤍❤️🔥- became a real fan watching him here in SA & his growth as a player & a person - I appreciate everything you did for us here in SA with our young Spurs squad & how you took the flack when you didn’t ask for this situation or to be here - I hope you lead those young Bulls to the 🏆 you deserve it 🙏🏾🌅
And look at him and this team we have in Chicago now, DeMar hit the last buzzer beater of 21 and the first in 22😤🐂's🏀 baby‼️ We're over happy having him and I know that Zack is like NEW BALL GAME NOW FINALLY 😅🥂🍾 D🌹ZEN DEBO‼️
As a Spurs fan I appreciate what he came in and done for us! I just wanna see bro happy! Good to see him go to Chicago! All the best for Demar he underrated af!! 💯🖤
GREAT interview! It's so much better when athletes interview each other. They need to keep the pressure on these goofy sports media nuts. So happy for Demar, he's killin it in Chi town. Better be an all-start this year. And salute to Draymond for being a helluva interviewer. He's surprisingly great at it. Post-basketball career certified. Thanks for posting.
Toronto has always been similar to American cities. Its just now Americans are aware of this its not that Toronto became "Americanized" lol. And we still have French labelling along with English haha its bilingual.
To this day I am still sad abt the trade. What Demar did for Toronto, everything that he represents is truly legendary and simply cannot be unnoticed. He is truly the GOAT and forever will be a huge part of the city of Toronto.
No joke DeMar is one of my heroes. On the court and off he's a legend. 'Should we have a mental health break?' Demar 'we need to listen and talk to everyone and figure out what they need because everyone is different.' Pure wisdom right there.
I would love for someone to ask if he would ever come back to Toronto.I know the organization did him dirty but maybe down the road if he ever forgives them because the country still love him
Y'all clowns keep talking about they did him dirty shit they got a fucking ring outta of it plus every franchise can't win a championship anyways you do that trade 10/10 on god plus let's say if derozan was their at the time they faced the 76ers in 2019 they would have lost plan in simple
@@terencejones22 Being told you’re not getting traded 2 days before you get traded is a bitchass move idgaf especially to a player who carried the franchise on his back for almost a decade but i know it’s Masai’s job to help his franchise win a Chip. All is said and done but why couldn’t he just tell him that there was a possibility of it happening
Demar held the fort down, set the culture, embraced the city, a pros pro. No demar no chip in tdot straight up. Imo a bigger legend than VC. Fuck just a tragic ending but the boy from Comp10 will never be forgotten or disrespected in Canada. Straight up Legend period!
@@freddycalipari4242 he didn’t say it. But kind of implied how primitive Toronto was 10 years ago. It’s like a city boy going into the boonies. These guys are from Cali so anywhere else must feel like the boonies.
Damn, hearing Demar go through the events of him getting traded lowkey hurt. The owners really don't give a fuck about the players and it's sad. This makes me want the Bulls to win the championship even more now
Awesome interview by one of the best facilitators, ON and OFF the court, Draymond! Thank you for asking the questions we want to hear from Demar and for getting responses he wouldn't normally give to any random reporter. Good stuff!
8:12 local media was very critical of that deal he got early in his career. Hell the fan base hated it as well..when he made the all star team earlier than schedule Bryan colangelo threw it in the face if all the local media members. Derozan exceeded expectations
This was such a good conversation! At first, I was reluctant to watch because of my disfavor for Green. But I gave it a chance and he's a decent facilitator. Overall though, DeMar's vulnerability made it worth the watch. Very inspiring hearing his journey
THE COMMUNICATION WAS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE ON MASAI'S PART!!!! He's been great for the Raptors and made good moves but I can never actually like him after he completely betrayed DeMar with this. So terrible
You have no idea what he went through with that decision. You don't know what pressure being the boss has. You look at it one way and say oh that's what it is, it's not that simple. He built a relationship with those boys and got too close, he's not a player he's the guy that has to make the tough decisions. He was sorry and he said that. I remember how happy everyone was in the city when we won, so true Raptors fans understood it had to be done.
DeMar is the perfect reason why I like it when players choose their own teams on free agency, loyalty means jack shit to most teams when they’re presented with something they cant resist
Hey much respect to Draymond so far on this show. He delivers really great interviews honestly. He asked Demar questions that were complex enough to tell a story out of.
I just hope the bulls win the chip this year, though this will not be very easy but this will be big for Deebo. After hearing all this, I'm rooting for him to get one at least
We can give a ring to demar for the culture he built before kawhi came... Instead of giving rings to people like LeBron and kd who run away from the grind and form super teams
17:30 it’s so refreshing to hear someone say they want to win a championship. Unlike Russell Westbrick who says oh I don’t care if I win a championship ….if I do, I do, if I don’t, I don’t. And that’s why the LA Lakers suck because Russell doesn’t care.
I really feel POP helped Demar with his temperament and confidence. He had two amazing years there. Not only did his defence improve, but he now moves the ball exceptionally well. I hope he gets a chip.
demar is one of my favorite players for how honest he is about his emotions in interviews. i've never been a bulls fan but im definitely rooting for them now. they've got some of my favorite players to watch, between demar, djj, and lonzo
Draymon Green appears that he will one day be a future sports analyst as happened with Shaq and Charles Barkley. He seems to have that personality that he would thrive doing that after he retires from basketball.
I think with Demar we could have won" that" year. Understand besides Demar getting traded. 3 other factors happened. First 2 . Coaching change and Lebron going to the west. Nick Nurse was a way better coach then Casey. And the teams the raptors beat to go to the finals. Demar and the raptors beat those teams in prior seasons. Only obstacle was Lebron James. Lebron and Jordan were actual road blocks for nba players careers. And now he was in the west. As a raptors fan. We played a GS team that didnt have Klay and Durant. (Injuries). No depth "that" year. Due to taking on Durant contract. We got lucky with the GS injury bug but Demar proved we could have beaten all those teams with him. Philly and young Bucks at the time and we had a huge upgrade with Nurse. So it comes down to. Would a healthy Raptors led by Demar with a Nick Nurse beat an Injury weak GS team.....yes
Thank you, finally someone gets it. That's exactly what the whole situation was and what DeMar meant when he said he didn't like hearing ppl he was the problem they didn't win. W comment
I'm pretty sure with Derozan, the Raptors would've gotten swept at the hands of 76ers. Stop using LeBron for Derozan & Lowry's inability to perform against tough opponents. The eastern conference in 2019 was stronger than all the years when Demar was there. The reality is Derozan & Lowry are 2nd or 3rd option guys on a championship team who were trying to win as a 1st option.
How? Wasn't Philly the same team that has its issues. Ben still cant shoot and embiid really hasnt made it to the conference finals as much as demar. If anything philly is overrated. Since 2019 to 2021 philly fans cant decide what direction their team is going in
@@vivekrawat2445 No they wouldn't have gotten swept by Philly in 2019 if they had DeRozan instead of Kahwi. They have a good chance of winning. Their major problem was vs the Cavs it was always a bad matchup for them
