His counter grappling is top notch. Most people think, you sprawl the double leg to defend the takedown. Alex thinks, unconscious people can't double leg. 🤔
I don’t know about Portuguese, but in Spanish, polémico is used much more than controversial so I assume it’s probably the same in Portuguese and he just defaulted to that cognate.
This is exactly what DC, Bisping and Weidman should have said. Yes Alex's wrestling is non-existent, and he skipped the line. But at the end of the day, his success is his success because he wins fights.
What ?! This IS what DC said about Pereira. Maybe not verbatim, but has the same meaning. He said something like "It's crazy to me that he made this sport that i trained so hard for, looks so easy. You can be just so good at one thing and you're 2 division champion". Which meant the same thing, more or less.
DC has mostly been trolling, though. Sometimes he comes off as a little passive aggressive in his approach (then again, so do many others including Bisping and weidman), but from what I've seen, he's mostly joking and gives Poatan his credit. weidman comes off as more salty and resentful like the evolution of the game is passing him by, which when you think about it, it kind of is. I haven't heard what Bisping's said yet.
He was obviously already getting his black belt, his coach just wanted to wait til this win to give it to him probably for a memorable moment in the ring.
@@AZ-kh9bfDJ should arguably be a black belt but his instructor is super strict about that sort of thing and bases it on potential. I wonder how long Matt wants him to steamroll through amateur brown belt competitions? 😂
He’s just SOOOO many levels ahead of everyone else at 205 when it comes to striking, if they don’t get him down immediately they’re automatically at a huge disadvantage. Plus he’s got the touch of death in his left hand
Lot of high level kickboxers would've been insane MMA fighters. Like Rico Verhoeven. Would easily destroy most (L)HW UFC fighters in the standup. But why should he do MMA? He makes way more money kickboxing
@@maxk880Well it depends honestly. If you reach stardom on the UFC you'll get paid more than any other kickboxing or MMA promotion. Not saying UFC pay is adequate but no one on the PFL, Glory or ONEFC is getting paid as much as people like Pereira, Jones, Adesanya or other big stars have gotten paid. Not to mention McGregor who's an outlier even among stars of the UFC. But if you're not a really big star you'll get paid better in other promotions that's for sure. If Rico joined the UFC and did as well as you expected him to he would've definitely gotten paid better in the UFC.
@@maxk880bro Rico Verhoeven would never be able to make LHW, he's 260 lbs pure muscle. He's a true heavyweight, and yes as you said I think he would have been great in MMA. And he did have an MMA fight, I thought he would transition full time into MMA then but he stayed in Kickboxing...
He wasn’t given the black belt for knocking him out that’s just when they gave it to him. He’s earned it and proved it in training and on the mat. He was just given it on a world stage. Not sure how people do t get that
No it’s not be real they know what stage they’re on they know the worlds watching they have him the belt to hype up the win even more when in reality he’s not a black belt can’t call this guy humble when does shi like this as well as his coaches …u don’t get a black belt from a left hook moron go to a jits gym and ko someone u won’t get it it takes years to get tht shi not jus a few kos
If he’s improved and worked hard in his jiu Jitsu and his instructor wants to present his black belt then that’s for him to appreciate and it’s relevant to him then other people’s opinions of it shouldn’t matter… it’s a milestone for many fighters and a personal thing… if someone received an accolade for passing a qualification or even a Nobel prize it doesn’t have to extrapolate to a performance in the cage… just offering a different perspective…
Why is everyone so surprised seeing Alex dominating with kickboxing? Literally Izzy did the same thing and yall just conveniently act like it has never happened before
I think people misunderstand a little bit. I think the point was that they wanted to give him a black belt anyways, and just had as a ritual to do it after a win. Hes not competing in BJJ, so the timing had to be after a MMA win. Its not because of his MMA win, it just that they wanted to do it on such an occasion.
how you gonna dispute the current light heavyweight and former middleweight UFC champion. That's more of an accomplishment than attaining a black belt in BJJ
Why does nobody have the thought that maybe just maybe he earned it before this fight at some point and they chose to give it to him in a special moment. P.s. this is fact I actually attend Texiera MMA in Bethal Connecticut. Its technically bristol the town lines are close
He has been a brown belt for two years, how long does it take most people to go from brown to black? He also has Glover, a former wrestling champion and ufc champion, coaching him. I would imagine that he earned that belt with hours of rolling with some of the best Brazilians on the planet.
