IOCHOW has a good one, especially for scanning books. It works, but some books are so stiff, my thumb gets tired of holding down the page. It does not work with a glass plate to hold the book open. I have tried.
Just got it from the successful Kickstarter campaign. It is awesome 🤩. The quality can me chosen between LOW-MED-HIGH. However choosing HIGH is not the best option. Having a GB size PDF scan (like using a SLR camera) is not an option if you want really scan a paper book and read it on your tablet or mobile phone. LOW or MED Quality are perfect on mobile phones and tablets. You can also just "OCRize" and transform the whole book in a text only PDF (that seems like a printed word document with standard Truetype fonts) loosing all the original fonts, and get a very small PDF, that is ideal for mobile phones or tablets readers.
Can you please tell me how many megapixels the camera has? And how many DPI the scanned pages would have? (It is very important for me to make the purchase decision). + I see that it transforms the scanned page into black and white (this is what I see) but what about colors for books with Images like textbooks!? (Is there a color mode in the software that can enhance colors or at least keep the original page image)? Thank you so much!
It is basically impossible to "share". There is no secret. There is a software behind it that determines through the camera 3 lines; they represent how the current pages are curved, and in real time those lines determine the equation the software has to implement to actually "correct" those curves. Which means flatting the pages. So, I think, it is not only the software, you might need also the hardware unfortunately. (Because they built the software based on the info that are given by that camera and it is not made to flatten an already taken Jpeg image for ex.). Anyway! You can try Booksorber (never tried it but it may work in your case). OR by using Photoshop (with the "perspective crop tool"). But..as you may see later, you will lose a lot of time by doing that.
Sure! However do note that the xcanex is just one type and a very specialized form of digital scanners called a "platform" book scanner, and not to be confused with conventional flatbed scanners or camera-based document visualizers. We haven't officially announced it yet but it's actually available since January 2017. Existing users can download it here : www.piqximaging.com/downloads If you haven't got one, the xcanex bookscanner can be ordered directly from us: www.piqximaging.com/buyxcanex.html
So true. In this case it's mostly the software you are paying for. The hardware alone likely could be sold for $50. I'm willing to be there is some open source software that can do something similar.
