Demo: Gibson Hummingbird 2018 Vintage Cherry Sunburst 

Thank you for sharing this point of view because it's exactly what I have experienced in guitar stores (in France): I remember in 2019, I went to a guitar store in Paris, I came for a SJ200 I saw in internet which was for sale. Before testing it, I was sure to buy it but this one didn't sound. It was like if the guitar was bridled, muted. I was completly disapointed, and I tried a J45 too: same thing. Finally, I found a great SJ-200 Walnut Studio with a great dynamic, great projection.

@@FlorianMaleville yes well my experience was much the same. So my first ever guitar that I now regret selling was a Yamaha L series LS6 which was a good guitar to start learning on. I then bought a second hand 12 fret Brook Taw (handmade on Dartmoor Devon) whilst it’s a beautiful guitar it’s based on a Martin OOO and is really a finger picking tool. All I ever wanted was that iconic Gibson sound like on the Stones albums ect and so when the USA Epiphone Texans came out and having been blown away by RU-vid reviews I visited the nearest shop to me that sells Gibson and had a USA Texan in. I played the Texan and several Gibson Dreadnoughts and I was so dissatisfied with the sound and whilst I expected my Boutique Brook guitar to have a superior build quality and finish I didn’t expect to hear that same muffled sound. A week later I saw second hand 2018 J35 on a site called GumtreeUK that people use to buy and sell things in their area? All I can say is that within seconds of strumming the chords and playing the lick from Steve Earle’s “My Old friend the Blues” I knew I was taking it home. I’ve heard that some folk when shopping for a Gibson at Sweetwater guitars in America that will have ten of the same models in stock will often ask to weigh them all and pick the lighter one. Bryan Sutton the brilliant Bluegrass player will drum/tap on the top of a guitar before even playing it and all I can say is that my J35 when I tap has the most pleasing resonant tap and as well as being the lightest dreadnought I’ve picked up it has a sound that feels and sounds like air being pushed out. It’s called the law of diminishing returns with factory made guitars in that unlike the boutique maker, making 80 guitars a year, the factory built guitars will always have a minimum of 25% that aren’t that good but like I said I do believe with Gibson that if you do find one of the good ones they are still exceptional instruments that are like nothing else for having that Gibson sound. I’m so wanting to try a Hummingbird and a Dove. Also the J200 is well known for being the one that for a Jumbo can often sound muted

Merci beaucoup ! 😁 Effectivement ça sonne vraiment bien et finalement très vintage... alors qu'elle n'est que de 2018 ! Pour la petite histoire, je l'ai achetée en 2021 dans un grand magasin de musique Lyon. Elle "trainait" dans leur stock de guitares depuis un bon moment et personne ne voulait mettre 3000€ dans cette guitare qui avait quelques traces d'usure, un mauvais entretien du vernis nitro cellulose (déjà marqué), des cordes usées... Elle n'était même pas accordée quand j'ai voulu l'essayer ! Mais quand j'ai entendu comme elle sonnait, il était évident que j'allais la ramener à la maison 😉Un bel exemplaire !
