I have been watching your RU-vid videos for years, love all the art work, new ideas, new techniques that challenge me to think anything is possible. You have been the few people that up to date I still watch and enjoy your creativity. Thank you for sharing and teaching me to step outside my comfort zone and enjoy nail art. 💐🤗

Hi Kim! I just LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos! Ever since I started following your channel, I have learnt so much from you, it’s insane. I know you already made a vid about it, but id like to reiterate that I love the length of your videos. You answer so many questions before we can even think of them, you are thorough and you actually share your research with us. I watch every second of your videos no matter how long because it’s hard to find someone so willingly shares their knowledge and in a way that people can actually learn from. I can take notes, I can rewind, and I can be sure of the outcome I can get from following your tutorials. I feel like your videos are mini master classes on RU-vid. And there are things you teach us that simply cannot be taught in 5 mins lol. I’m sure the time stamps should help for the less patient of your viewers lol. So thank you for your time and all the energy you put into your videos. They are highly appreciated.

I am a polyclay hobbyist and a nail art afficiando; so this is a win-win! Combining these two mediums is brilliant and opens up a world of exquisite possibilities! So many premade, imported nail art charms are lacking attention to detail. I also wanted to add that baby oil is a great inexpensive alternative to buying clay conditioner. I use it in my sculpting and it works the same! :) TFS

You can buy these clay products at Micheals as well as pigments you can add to them to make them shimmer or sparkle it up as much as you want. Just a thought as I’m not for ordering online if I can find them local because then you truly know what your getting and can return it hassle free if it’s not what you wanted. As well as buying local supports products made in your country and not others which I also think is important. It’s a great tutorial and I bet most wouldn’t have thought to use these products as they need to be baked but you can make several and reuse if possible as well as other things so very versatile product. I love it.

I love this! Not even so long ago I mentioned that I did did little Fimo embellishments on the nails (and many other things with it in that time) in the time that Fimo clay was totally it 😊 I guess it was 20 years back! How fantastic to see that you put in a lot of research between all the different types of polymer clay. But when you told all of that something popped up on me.. how much it looks and is being used like the poly gel/ many other brands of gels that are coming up as we speak.. that was just a observation 😊 But the nail turned out to be so beautiful.. completely build in levels with embellishments that mix and match just right 🤗 Love it!
@tenlittlecanvases
@tenlittlecanvases 5 лет назад
Thank you very much...I'd seen the Fimo slices used in nail art but it wasn't until I was lamenting the fragility of making thin petals with 3D gel that my friend Angela told me to try polymer clay....now I'm obsessed with what I can make in miniature for the nail. I have a lot of polygel/acrygel but it just isn't firm enough, at least not for making such smooth paper thin petals.
@HotdogwaterVR
@HotdogwaterVR Год назад
As a polymer clay artist I would not recommend sculpey III. After curing it is a very brittle clay. As you mentioned it is also way too sticky for making miniatures. There are some brands not sold in American craft stores that you could order online that would work way better than anything we have here. Cernet is the best for making flower petals. But if you can't or don't want to make an online purchase FIMO is probably your best bet

@@tiaxo2951 Not really switched brands, FIMO is strong and is somewhat flexible. I've been reading a LOT about different clays and bake times..it seems baking longer can make the clay stronger as long as you don't bake at over 300 degrees F...I'm still experimenting. PARDO is definitely more flexible with their recommended bake time than FIMO.

I know that some people experienced some contact dermatitis using the gel on the skin, so for sure avoid doing that. That's what makes the polyclay a great alternative as it's a non-toxic product and is intended to worked with your hands. With the roses, sometimes less is more...I usually start with the bud, place 2-3 small petals around the bud, then add 4-5 medium size petals around those. I overlap the petal about 1/3 to 1/2 into the previous petal. Hope that helps.

I actually baked on the back of a fork (I lightly placed smaller buds in between the tines to keep them upright while baking) to avoid burning (that happened to one of my pieces that I had sitting directly on the baking sheet). I've read that placing pieces on a tile on the baking pan will help with even baking and avoid burning.

@@tenlittlecanvases Hi- I'm really happy I found your video. I don't do nail stuff but I have been working w/ polymer clay for almost 2 years now & I've made lots of roses for jewelry. I always form the rose by doing 1 petal at a time though which can be very time consuming. I never thought to put all the smaller petals together as you did then simply roll it.. genius! As far as baking goes you're right, having a ceramic tile helps w/ even curing. However you do not have to place your clay on the tile in order for that to happen, you can simply place a ceramic tile anywhere in your oven so it prevents hot spots from forming. I strongly suggest that whatever you place your clay on to put in the oven, whether that be a baking sheet, tile, etc., that you place a piece of paper directly under your clay & over the surface you want to lay it on. If you bake your piece on any kind of metal or on a glazed, glossy ceramic tile the bottom of your clay piece will become very shiny. And as we know, shiny stuff doesn't adhere as well to other surfaces than if it was matte, so I can't imagine that a shiny bottom would be great for gluing onto your nails. And I read that 1 of your roses burned. You can avoid this w/ 2 things- you have to have to have to make sure your oven is set to the correct temperature. Most ovens are inaccurate so you can buy a cheap oven thermometer to ensure that you get it to the perfect temp. Also, it'sa very good idea to tent your pieces while baking. What I do is buy 2 disposable lasagna baking tins from the dollar tree & some binder clips. I place a ceramic tile on the bottom of 1 then lay several pieces of plain printing paper over that then lay my clay pieces over the paper, then I place another piece of paper over my clay pieces, then I cover everything w/ the other lasagna tin but place it upside down. I then secure both ends with binder clips, so it holds everything together. That will really help to prevent scorching. And I'd think that you'd need pretty hardy & durable roses for use on your nails. The very best ways to make sure they are as strong as can be while simultaneously being as flexible as possible is to make sure you're curing your clay at the exact right temp for the brand you are using (see? That oven thermometer is extremely important). And secondly, I highly highly recommend baking for one full hour. I know it sounds risky & extreme, but please trust me. So long as your oven is the correct temperature & you're tenting your clay, baking your pieces for longer than the recommended time will never scorch or burn them & the longer you cure them the stronger & more flexible they will be. I swear to you, since I bought my oven thermometer & found out that my oven temp was going over 15° hotter than what I'd set it to & since I've started renting my clay, I haven't had any burned pieces at all and I bake absolutely everything for a full hour. Ok, I think I'm finally done now. I'm sorry for the insanely long comment. I just wanted to share some information with you since you were so kind to share this wonderful tutorial. I really hope this helps

@@jasminehealey9405 Great info! I have read about a few of the pointers you mention before but it's good know about the longer baking time and tenting...I do have a thermometer in my oven, but I was leery of over baking, will try it and see if that helps durability (especially Sculpey...my rose crumbled with a 'squeeze' test). Thanks again for all the info.

What happens when the clay gets wet?

Nothing...once baked its essentially a plastic.

Can we use 4d sculpting gel?
@tenlittlecanvases
@tenlittlecanvases 3 года назад
Yes, but it will not be as strong....the thinner you form the 3D gel the more fragile it gets. The advantage to the poly clay is that once it's baked is essentially turns into a plastic which with most clays will make for sturdier charms.

Thank you but I want to ask you if its possible to use for nails 💅
@tenlittlecanvases

Yes! You can definitely use on nails. Since you would use over a top-coated/sealed nail there is no issue. This polyclay is the same material used to make those cane slices (fruit, flower, etc) that you see in some nail art.

I used to love working with polymer clay and thought about getting back into it. There are all kinds of tiny flowers to make. You're only limited by imagination. I have a few sketches for projects I need to finish. Another great place to shop for all kinds of things is firemountaingems.com. They have so many tools to also work with. I get a lot of my seed beads there for Native American art. Thank you for such clear instruction.
