From the 1940s to the 1960s my family leased a shop which was part of the Woodfield Road side of St Chads Hotel. The hotel took back the lease in 1963, converted the shop back to rooms and we lost our livelihood. My 1950s childhood was spent playing on and around that corner. So sad to see it derelict

Wepl done you for documenting this for posterity. Anyone actually concerned in Blackpool about preservation of the Victorian buildings? We are losing a huge amount of them. Yet another terrace lost to demolition such ashame. Understand these businesses are difficult to maintain but they have always been ....and would have been when previous owners made the purchase. When its allowed to get to this there is little choice. So sad....Hope the new build isn't an eyesore

My family owned St Chads about 40 years ago when it was a lot smaller. Plenty of good memories living there. Sad to see it go but that's change.

Emptying all the fixtures and fittings first before they measure up for the demolition costs and put in for the demolition order, hopefully no 'accidental' fires in the meantime.

It used to be several smaller hotels; same with the Lyndene. The rear wall looks very damp, one reason it's being demolished perhaps.

Hi Jane So Sad to see what has happened to St Chads we have so many great memories of Blackpool , I hope it reopens as a new hotel , but I wouldn't be surprised if they built flats for sale , strange to hear that they are also knocking down The Lyndene hotel .

Excellent video very informative I think it's good two new hotels being built you can't keep refurbishing old hotels it's what Blackpool needs down with the old up with the new we need investment in Blackpool. It's definitely on the up just look at Talbot Road and trams up to station with new hotels it's brilliant 👏 all the best woody

We stayed in the st chads with my mother and father in laws many years ago and it was great really loved it. So sad to see it getting demolished. It was used by Blackpool promotions for many a year. Probably cheaper to knock it down and start again.

Hello Jane, Lancs Live reported on January 13 about rumours of St. Chads being demolished but spokes person for Blackpool Council told Lancs Live no planning application had been received by the Council for demolition of the Hotel, if they start demolition without Council approval work will be stopped.

Good news that the owners are looking to modernise and replace the hotels withsomething modern. They are 130 odd years old and especially being on the sea front they must cost a fortune in maintenance every year just to keep the doors open. Not before time, hopefully Blackpool will bounce back after donkeys years of no investmentbeing made other than sticking plasters over things and hopefully it will bring in more tourists

Jane it is sad for people to lose there Jobs and worse for them that they are not getting any money for working so long I know from my own experience worked for company for 28.5 years came in one morning and discovered they were closing down. Jane I was in contact with Blackpool Transport asking about trams close to Blackpool North the lady told me North Pier but as part of Blackpool regeneration there is going to be a tram terminal at Blackpool North it is supposed to be happening in June all being well

Waste of couple of good building's could easy be painted and renovated inside and used again old building's worth more money
@visitfyldecoast
@visitfyldecoast Год назад
Not necessarily - a lot of these old buildings are in desperate need of repair and a lot of it. Working on old buildings is always really expensive and sometimes it’s just more cost effective to start again. It’s had a good innings

They need to open the Norbreck castle to the migrants who will then go about demolishing it from the inside out, then the owners can get governments handout to rebuild it to its original splendour, because at the moment it's not fit for purpose.
@thestig8133
@thestig8133 Год назад
I've not stayed at The Norbreck & so far due to the reviews it has had over the past X amount of years i am glad i haven't stayed there. As for what i heard & seen on RU-vid reviews ( by quite a few people) it is FAR , FAR from being a 5* hotel more like 2 or maybe a 3 * if your very lucky. WELL OVERATED for it conditions of some of it's rooms. As for other facilities it is supposed to offer then don't risk it. As for Imigrants litterly taken it over THAT I THINK IS WELL BEYOND IT ( GOING TO FAR!!!!).

If I had worked hard at a difficult time for that management company and been kicked out without recompence for my efforts I would have made sure to leave with a different kind of recompence, but then I am a lifelong socialist. In fact those unfortunate people ought to be able too take some action to have the shortfall made good by those with millions to invest but of course in the real world that is not going to happen. I wonder if one of the adjacent properties would let you put a time lapse camera in situ to record all the demolition? That would be fascinating to see!
